I don't mind the unsaturated colors. Its simply a Wheeljack thats trying to bring a budget masterpiece to the line. I'm sure there was some reason up in corporate why the colors where choosen. Personally, while I prefer the red and green to be bright, I don't mind the vanilla off white, to be it makes Wheeljack feel dusty, like he's been driving in the desert. for all the people who wanted an updated Wheeljack, this is it. Its a really good figure with a easy transformation. Great review and I love the custom paint job, I just prefer the pack in off white we got
Interesting thing about ER Wheeljack: taking a look at its dimensions, the scale (apart from obviously the flattened roof) turned out to be an almost perfect 1/30 in every other aspect. In other words, THIS is how big a Masterpiece Wheeljack would be if he was measured by the actual size of his car mode rather than the height of his robot mode. The Lancia Stratos Turbo is a tiny thing. P.S. If you wanna know about replacements for those spoiler wings, Robots78's are probably the best of the best. They're available to buy on Shapeways and there's a TFW thread updated pretty much weekly.
I can't find stratos group 5 (turbo) dimensions but the wheelbase (which I think must be the same for all versions) is 2,18m. Masterpiece has wheelbase of 7,5cm which give us a scale of 1/29 which is close enough. Although lancia stratos is tiny, the fact that Wheeljack form is the group 5 version (a really "beefed up" version of the original) gives a lot of extra volume.
I still prefer Generations Wheeljack myself. But this is a definite step up from the CW version, and certainly much more actually Wheeljack for the unfortunate people who couldn't get the Gen version. And com'n, we're in a franchise run that's all about plugging extra guns and armor made from other robots on guys, how could we not have a version of the Autobot's favorite crackpot inventor?
At 2:42, you said that there was something that "doesn't sit right" with the design. I think that you're thinking of the step thingies that are in-between the wheels, seen at 1:44 in the small picture
someone else pointed out the reall long wheelbase as well as the car feels like a stratos that got run through a roller. there's lots of little things that leave an off aftertaste with the vehicle mode
Definitely seeing some distortions with the 60 fps frame blurring. Particularly noticeable when you slide the chest up in the transformation and when the cars drive by at the very end of the video. A lot of weird morphing shapes.
Being a Wheeljack fan, and having both the Generations and the TF: Prime versions of the character, I was waiting for this for a while. It's made me happy to own a 'modern' Wheeljack. And because I own the Prime figure, he can apparently hold his swords for some more playability. Hopefully, I can get the masterpiece soon, been eyeing that thing for a couple years now.
God, I love sponsorship in jokes, I love them to death on MP Smokescreen. The 60 fps looks really nice! It's almost uncanny... Edit: Nice custom green! That is the one flaw on alot of wheeljacks, ESPECIALLY the TF Prime one. I'm intrested in what this toyhax set will look like. I still really need to get that killer Mirage set with all the car details.
Looks good and I honestly didn't noticed any lack of quality outside of the much smoother animations. And really, it's the quality of the animation that matters, not the size of the video.
1080p is more than substantial. The improved smoothness takes your videos to a truly new level. It felt like high budget animation. Please stay in this trajectory. Great content all around BTW.
optimus prime when reviewing the solar power tower grapple and hoist: "we just made a way of producing renewable energon, thus eliminating our energon concerns and also saving earth's environment" optimus: "sorry but you aren't season one so I don't care."
I spent the whole video thinking 'wow this is such a huge step up in smoothness of motion, you must really have a lot more time to take more photos for the stop motion with this lockdown' and then it turns out it just some rendering settings, so yeah I def say go for keeping those settings.
On the topic of masking over complicated surfaces, it's best to use lots of tiny pieces of maskin tape, even some Tamiya lining tape or something of the sort, it adds time to the masking process but gives you much cleaner lines once they're removed
No, I like them. I prefer the off white. I believe that was true of the original, though he was one of the G1's I never picked up. I do prefer the darker forest green, but I think this color combo works fine, but to each his own.
don't feel weird, I enjoy what I enjoy, you enjoy what you enjoy! this is a video about my opinions and in no way does this aim to tell you yours are wrong in any way 😁
wait the fact that you animated the arms going up on top of head like the g1 cartoon instead of how the toys works for your outro was so sick. Huge props on that dude. Also the animation looks a lot smoother and more natural in this video. Good work man
Wow! I say definitely stick with the 1080p 60fps the animation looks incredibly smooth and seamless compared to past reviews and the trade-off is definitely worth it.
Hi there I'm Peter from Hamilton Ontario Canada I'm 47 years old and always been a fan of the original g1 transformers toys since I was a kid LoL and I think that these new earthrise figures are not too bad, so far so good, Even though I kept mine in the package. Stay safe where ever you are Sir

Take care and have a good day
HOLY SHIT!! I've got to respect you for how FLUENT your stop motion is!! I KNOW that I would not be able to do that, I'd give up before I'd even finished!!
I love the smooth animation that the video has, among many channels that I have seen that do stop motion this is the most fluid and shows an evolution in your quality, keep up the excellent work
So, fun fact about Wheeljack's brakes: it actually makes sense for him not to have drilled rotors. Most rally teams use slotted--but not drilled--rotors, presumably because the holes in drilled rotors can pick up dirt and mud and the like and ruin the braking system. Food for thought.
Toyhax made a label set for this that actually does what you did with the paint and more. I'm sure you're probably aware of this, but I think I'd mention regardless cause I think you'd have a field day with the label set. Granted I know it doesn't make him the proper white, but it does add the livery at least
Wow, that's good for the experiment you had in this video, the animation looks smoother in the past several years. I also have Combiner Wars Wheeljack, and he's also got his problems, but I love the figure for his ability to combine with other bots.
If not for that bit with the cars driving by the camera at the end, I would say the 60fps interpolation is awesome. But those last few seconds...it's like they're a reflection in a pool of water with how many ripples there are.
Haha that one was my fault. I didn't take my time with the last shot which confused the program. If the frames are too choppy it does it's best but it still doesnt look pretty
@ apprx 3:30 - regarding the color: I'm a smoker still [product of the 80s, I'm legit working with the VA hospital on quitting - just, other things first...] - but, I digress. This Wheeljack looks like it has been sitting on my smokey shelf for a few years. Like *exactly* the color of the most undesirable color when it comes to white plastic... anything. Nobody wants an X-wing this color either. Almost like, they forgot to change the plastic supply from the grimy look of Siege, and just said, "Meh - f'k it. Nobody'll notice. On to more Prime and Bumblebee!" And I *really* want a Wheeljack - never was able to get one as a kid.
I personally really like the new ironworks and am sad to see and hear that people are just leaving him on the shelf. He’s actually a really neat figure and I for one would love to see a review.
New idea Lazy Eyebrow! I'm printing up a Lancia Stratos and hacking up the design in Blender to create fairings and a better rear spoiler to make that the door stop cheese wedge actually look like a Lancia Stratos. Thanks for the inspiration!
One thing I’ve noticed that other people don’t mention is the limited color on the door tampos. The green stripe that runs along the bottom of the car turns black, presumably for cost effectiveness
Idk why nobody is drooling over this animation smoooothness. I’m literally analyzing the footage trying to figure out just HOW! Then I remember the mention of the “powerful computer” and now I bet my bottom energon cube you used one of those frame adding A.Is, in which, wheeljack would be proud. (And then I noticed the end card about it, consider this comment VERY positive feedback)
Damn, the motion was smooth as butter, I love it! Doesn't even look like stop-motion at times. I personally don't really care about the drop from 4k. I typically have the quality set to auto anyway and, considering the heavy internet usage by my family lately (*cough* COVID *cough*), I can barely run 1080 without some mild buffering. Plus, I'm kinda used to the lower-quality images from your previous reviews. To me at least, it's almost part of your channel, like how Thew has his word puns or Emgo has his skits. I don't know, that sounded weird. My point is, keep the 60 fps.
I feel like it would be a really cool idea if when you completely finish your modified wheeljack with the new parts and paint, if you used another wheeljack and gave it the same treatment but then make it dirty with actual dirt stains and offroady-ness
Question: How is Hasbro able to make Earthrise Starscream close to an F-15 Eagle, a McDonnell Douglas design, but Studio Series Blitzwing can’t be close to a F-4 Phantom II, another McDonnell Douglas design?
Starscream's F-15 alternate mode is much more iconic; Studio Series "Blitzwing" is literally just a nameslap on a nobody character who was only present for a few minutes on-screen.
This looks cool, but maaan, you pointing out the desaturation makes it impossible for me to unsee it, not to mention MP Wheeljack is one of the few Masterpieces I have, so this one is pretty low on the priority bracket. The video looks trippy on 60fps!
Damn that is the most smoothest stop motion animation video I have ever seen I mean I watched the movement of Optimus prime at the start of the video again and again until i said okay yeah there's still the rest of the video
I had to go to Target today (for needed supplies) and found an Earthrise Grapple... and decided to give it to my son... that was the second hardest toy I ever had to remove from the plastic bubble. I thought I was going to break it. Teletran One (or is it 'Teletran 1', I don't want offend anyone out there) looks awesome, excellent job! ...and my son and I liked how smooth everything looked, my monitor (24") is too small too see a 4k difference
Just came back here after one pregnancy-long time period after getting the new Jazz figure . And Man o man am I still glad to have found someone else with the same opinion as myself. Don't get me wrong, like what you like, but I prefer watching someone who likes what I like. That being said, I love figures that have realistic Alt Modes with G1-styled robot modes. And I can't wait to make my Jazz, (and possible see yours if you make one) with modifications to bring that 935 to life
Recently found your reviews after coming back from a 9 year collecting hiatus. Your work is excellent, and I want to thank you for it. I am a bit "blah" about the mold myself, and like you I can't quite put my finger on it. I don't mind the odd arm proportions - as a robot, I can accept it, but I guess as an animator you see that differently - and I'm also fine with the colors. There is definitely an art to a great toy, and that can be hard to quantify. Grapple has it, but Wheeljack just misses it. This is also grading on what I felt was a pretty tough curve after Siege.
I'm going to carry over what I stated on the test video, the higher framerate just makes my eyes hurt, plus the driving away shot at the end of the video really hit home the major problems with the method used to raise the fps... granted I'm the kind of person where once I learn how certain animation shortcuts are done I can't unsee it and it starts to severely bother me. Also I see I'm already very outspoken so.....
Driving away really does look awful. I'm still working with the program so maybe it'll get better. Still experimenting though so we'll see what happens. The input is appreciated though!
please excuse all the incorrect names littered around the video. Idk what's wrong with me either haha
Try panel lineing it if the white it bugging you that much. The black should make the other colours pop more.
Hey, what kinda of paint do you use?
Ok

Will you get earthrise optimus prime?
@@kevinp.h157 he'll probably get it it just has to pop up in his area. Since the prices area absurd online.
How I see the skit at the beginning
Grapple and hoist: have a infinite power source
Prime: nah
Wheeljack: HEY PRIME IVE CREATED A WEAPON TO DEFY THE GENEVA CONVENTION.
Prime: let’s give it a test run
Like shooting cons in a barrel
Gotta love a leader with his priorities straighten out. XD
A weapon to surpass metal gear
Prime: Won't the Decepticons want it?
Wheeljack: Yeah, but we can just shoot them with it.
more of send it into mass production without further testing
Grapple: *actually has a good idea*
*gets declined*
Earthrise wheeljack: *has the stupidest idea to autobot kind*
*gets promoted*
Standard prime logic
Grapple had a giant tower that could have been more helpful to the decepticons instead
@@hero-bo7qc true
But grapple had something that the decepticons would want.
And that's why the Decepticons ended up controlling Cybertron.
I never understood why 4K was so desirable. if the tradeoff for a higher framerate is just 1080p than I will gladly make that sacrifice
It’s also great that I watched both this video and the last one back to back and didn’t find a different
probably has to do with the aliasing since 4k has such a high pixel count you wont need antialiasing to hide the jagged edges.
Agreed. I'm on mobile anyway. I literally can't go past 720p60
Did you know the human eye cant differentiate between 1080p and 4k?
Really, I don't see a difference between 4K and 1080p, they just look the same

I think the 60fps was fine, id happily watch with this style
Finally it’s here!
I like the altered frame rate! Wouldn't mind seeing more vids with it in the future.
@@blam320 Still many of us think F-4 is great design that we want replicated
Or another example, everything in combiner wars?
It's an excellent question
Tbh I have no clue
This looks cool, but maaan, you pointing out the desaturation makes it impossible for me to unsee it, not to mention MP Wheeljack is one of the few Masterpieces I have, so this one is pretty low on the priority bracket. The video looks trippy on 60fps!
Damn that is the most smoothest stop motion animation video I have ever seen I mean I watched the movement of Optimus prime at the start of the video again and again until i said okay yeah there's still the rest of the video
Oh man, wait till you see the Cyclonus and Bluestreak reviews haha
Thank you for pointing out the alt mode weirdness!!!
BOOM! I BLAMING! LIKE IT! Because it looks smoother and look's something from a actual transformers cartoon it's quick and swift.
You did very well with customising wheeljack, he looks really good
You can also put his wings into the side of the arms to give it a more bulky look
Framerate boost caught me by surprise, looks nice and smooth.
The extra frames make a huge difference. They make a toy look damn near alive.
