I love the half life aesthetic. There's something strangely compelling about low resolution textures, simple polygons, and maps that are several years old.

I cried when you played the russian mod. Man every time you’d knock on the door they tell you to go fuck yourself in different ways. And that window - pure cursing. Someone did a great job to relay the whole spirit of a typical suburban town

The mod made as a birthday present for dan is geniunely heart warming. I love it on its own and I love it more that it's meant as a gift. It even has a happy birthday dan as a secret. It's adorable. Too adorable.

I was wondering the exact same thing. Looks like it might be one of those shitty "painted" filters being used to hide just how low res the source pictures are, with questionable results.
In Mario 64, the painting gradually shifts to Bowser's face as you get closer to it. It appears the asset that is used there is from the picture mid-transition. So you're looking at a Peach-Bows hybrid.

Hey Vinesauce! I just wanted to thank you for this series on half life one mods! Watching all of these has made me really happy and I love it! All I played throughout my childhood was half life and counter strike! Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of these in the future

@@doomasil7232 Yup, that's the idea. Most Valve games don't have sprint so might as well bring the crouch button closer. I understand if that might mess with people's muscle memory.
I hate to admit this but I always have crouch to shift in all half-life games, its just easier for me and i'v done it since i first played half-life 2.
To be fair I haven't seen a HL mod that would be considered normal. So saying those are weird mods is as valid as saying it's a half life mod ;)
