This video reminds me watching my dad on a 46A building a pioneer road for blasters to come through out of Seneca Ore, 1970 or so. He was proud to talk about being a good "cat skinner".
Looks a pretty straight tractor and sounds like it runs well. The boys should run it into the workshop over winter and give the old girl a new coat of paint. She would come up looking a treat. Also hang a set of ripper’s off the back and it would save a lot of stress on the blade dislodging the stumps.
I grew up with my dad owning a 2U8 and a 3T7, pulling a "can" Carry-all. He had 2 "cans". Out of Vale Oregon 1965 or so. I remember one job, rattle snakes so numerous we had to raise the can off the ground, sleep in them or cab of a pick up. We camped a long the way. He was building reservoirs for BLM out of Vale.
This reminds me of land clearing operations with colonial pipeline back in the mid 70’s. Heavy iron in the deep woods…You can almost smell the newly churned earth. 👍🏼
Does the logging company do anything with those stumps / root balls, or just push them to the side and leave them to rot? Amazing how easily the dozer can rip them out and move them. Do the loggers normally clear the trees in the area they want the landing expanded, or do you just push the trees over and bury them?
Northern California in late 80s, digging out Redwood stumps/parts Save Everything of any size, quite the market! They were buried by Real Men back in the 30s!!!

Great video. Brings back memories of working with a 46A in the early 70s logging in NW Washington.
Nice to see someone who knows what a de accelerator and brake pedal is.
Great job on the video! That sound this 46A makes is sweet music 🎶
Almost as nice as your guys' D7E.

Nice job on the landing, smoothed out spot on. That Cat/operator moved those stumps out of the way good! 👍
Reminds me of learning to drive when I was about 6 years old. All I saw back then was the dashboard and hood too.

Good sized Douglas Firs in the background there, the size of those stumps and their reluctance at being moved indicates how big the wood actually is!
Love the winch on the back
skilled operator! thanks for sharing
Great operator
