  • We've reached the end of season 1 of Put a Ring on It (OWN) and it concludes with the reunion. There was some good stuff in it, but a decent amount of it was whatever. I'll be back if there is a season 2 of this show, but this now completes everything I'll be doing related to season 1 of Put a Ring on It. Thanks to everyone who watched.

      @LoveJones 2019 In case you didn't know, I did all of these 'live' when editing (I didn't watch any of the episodes before starting the translations). I would hit play, hear something I wanted to translate, do it, and then hit play again. I never had any idea what was coming and was able to avoid all major spoilers since the show had ended long before I started these. There are a ton of things that paid off what I was leading to with the translations throughout the season without knowing what was coming and that made doing this show a lot of fun. 😍 to you.

      @Ms. Donald Thanks for the kind words. The host asked so many questions that were answered in the TV show, so she must have only been watching clips. I about lost it when she said to Tamika and Vince (paraphrasing), 'Congrats to you, the show was Put a Ring on It and you did'. If she'd watched the show, she'd know they were a disaster. One of the most hilarious parts to me was the whole Mike/Che/Whitney thing. I swear to God I didn't skip ahead and was just making those jokes because of how suggestive it all sounded. When the host brought up the threesome stuff, I was like OH MY GOD (even though she totally got wrong how that was brought up). I thought Mike's threesome was with someone else, but Che just out and out confirmed it was her...lol. And then after that they all went there and I couldn't believe I got to pay off my 'in bed' joke with real stuff. I love when stuff like that happens, because I truly wasn't expecting it. I think Tommy would have been great hosting that reunion and I'm not usually very pro Tommy.
      As for what's next, I'm doing three more of the self-hype machine pieces for RTL season 3. Then I'm going to see if my facial expression show works one more time (if it doesn't I'm dropping the concept). After that, I'm going to try to catch up on translating season 12 of Married at First Sight (I accidentally translated episode 3 first, so it's kind of sitting out there on an island). And after that I'll probably go quiet for a while unless another show comes up that I feel compelled to do this stuff for.

    • @NotreadyTolove
      @NotreadyTolove  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @pops libra I think she shouldn't have said yes, more than anything else. They didn't solve any of the issues they had on the show and there really wasn't any way for them to solve the big issues (the canceled wedding, unpaid for wedding dress, and that Ashley's dad could have walked her down the aisle the first time before he passed away). I don't know what she's up to these days, but I think you're watching season 3 of this, so you know what happened with him if you are.
      Oh, and she completely played Kwame (he finally got it at the reunion). She picked him because she knew she didn't want to be with him, in my opinion.

    8:40 is what I've been saying. Dr Nicole told Tamika to try another approach instead of telling Vince that he needs to stop entertaining other women while with Tamika.
    Later on, Egypt talked about Tamika finding healing for her 'trust issues.' Whereas Vince was let off the hook for giving Tamika trust issues.
    But back to Dr Nicole, again, I'm only going by what you've done, she consistently let Vince off the hook. Even when she asked him to own what he did, she added something like 'without owning all of it' ie without owning Tamika's response. Which technically is true, but why did she feel the need to put in that addendum?
    If I were Dr Nicole, I'd ask Tamika why she's staying with a man who has shown her repeatedly that he has other women in his life.
    Anyway. I saw it pretty in every upload: Dr Nicole not calling a spade a spade, and correcting the women much more than the men.

    • @NotreadyTolove
      @NotreadyTolove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Blew If you have OWN, I'd try to check out a few of the episodes where you think Dr. Nicole was letting Vince off the hook to see if I butchered it a bit (I can also pull out any scenes you want to see in particular for full context if you want and post them as unlisted links for you to check). I generally agree Dr. Nicole put the onus on the women to get over things their men were doing that were a problem.
      She's not much of a relationship coach if she thinks Che will just get over the whole being around children thing when she doesn't want to. Anyone who's known anyone who's had a really bad mismatch with the kid thing knows that is the most likely thing to break up a marriage. And it's not because of overt actions like Che wearing her heart on her sleeve about how she feels about not wanting kids (she owns it and I do give her props for that). It's because of seething and holding inside that one wants kids and one doesn't. That builds to an insane resentment that implodes marriages, especially when the woman wants kids and the man says he'll get around to it. Either side is going to build resentment for either not getting to have the kid or if the other side gives in and has a kid. Right now, Mike and Che probably have a 2 or 3 year window of having fun (til Zion gets to high school), but I can't see that lasting once reality sets in on how much Che's life is going to change (unless she just completely changes into some kind of motherly instinct between now and then).
      My feeling is that Dr. Nicole was trying to get Tamika to break up with Vince, letting her know he was never going to change and that it was up to her to choose the path she wanted to navigate knowing that he wouldn't. I don't think she can just say to her, 'you need to leave' but to me she was as clear as she could have been that she needed to without actually saying it. Dr. Nicole definitely knew Vince is a fraud with the on cam stuff and also warned Tamika in multiple roundtables that this ain't ever gonna go away. I'd be mega impressed if that marriage doesn't end up as a massive disaster to the point where either of them still feel okay as even people in three years. It's beyond toxic no matter how happy they claim they are and you hit the nail on the head with all the reasons.

    • @diamond852
      @diamond852 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NotreadyTolove So sorry for taking 3 weeks to respond. Are you ok? You haven't posted in a while.
      I don't have OWN unfortunately ☹️.
      Some reviewers said that Mike and Che were acting and things weren't as bad as they made them out to be. 🤷🏿‍♂️ Idk about that, but for whatever reason I found them most likely to work. I thought they were pretty good at communication and they both seemed to have the same kinds of sexual appetites.
      Although I found Mike sly in keeping the other woman still in the picture and engineering a sister wife situation. That was so manipulative. As Egypt said, he's a winner 👀
      I think you might be right about Dr Nicole and Tamika and Vince. Maybe she wanted Tamika to really see what was going on, and to make her so uncomfortable that she'd want to leave. But I still think she was irresponsible in her handling of the situation.
      She should have asked Vince why he kept getting into situations with other women and how his phone always broke when Tamika was out of town 🙄 She should have made him stop gaslighting Tamika and kept the argument on topic.
      She should also have asked Hollywood why he shouted so much when Ashley continuously said that was a deal-breaker for her. She should have asked Hollywood what it meant to listen.
      I think Dr Nicole is one of those people who put the responsibility of a relationship on the woman. This is very common still, and I think she needs to confront that because as it is, she lacks the tools to really help her clients.
      However, it's TV. She might be very different in person. I think some of your comments about them having to wait until the end of the season were spot on. Some things were unnecessarily drawn out.

    • @NotreadyTolove
      @NotreadyTolove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Blew I'm good and I hope you are too. I've just had an extremely hectic schedule with my real gig (sound mixing). I've been working a lot of 14-16 hour days over the last 14 days or so and haven't had time to do anything other than work/eat/sleep since I got wrapped into this schedule (tonight's my last bad night). I was in the middle of working on Married at First Sight's episode 4 when it hit (my work was expected to be a Category 2 hurricane and ended up a Category 5). The new season of Ready to Love starts Friday night, so I'm expecting to be working the crazy night after the show schedule again (minus the week of April 16 as I have something I'm doing and will be delayed probably until Wednesday the 21st for getting that week's episode up).
      For Mike and Che, yeah, I'd totally believe they were acting. There were all sorts of things across the show where it looked like they were talking in code to let each other know what they were thinking. I definitely think Che has an issue with Zion, but I think most of the other stuff was just about doing a fun role playing game and Mike scouting for another swinging single to join them. Egypt just threw her hands up in that segment. She knows they have some interesting ideas about relationships...lol.
      For the Dr. Nicole/Vince/Tamika thing, I think it must have been that she wasn't there for 'therapy' but more for coaching. I remember when I watched episode 3 of the show, I thought it was getting really dark, and I wasn't looking forward to the rest of it, but they went back to the tone of episode 2 for the rest of the season. I think they didn't want people to fight hard with each other on the show, because the premise was so ridiculous. I think Dr. Nicole's goal was to nudge people to an outcome she thought they wanted, but the more she talked with Tamika, the more she realized this seemed to be what she wanted even though she knows it will be a disaster. And when someone's that snowed by such blatant gaslighting, what can you do? That whole scene where he prayed and then 'asked' her to marry him (his language wasn't how anyone asks someone to marry them) was so unbelievably manipulative I just couldn't. You might have noticed that she never *said* yes, she just nodded her head...lol. Her body language at the reunion was nuts. She looked like she didn't want him to touch her and she only had any kind of touching going on toward the end. Even when they were in their biggest horrible places in the regular show, they were almost always holding hands (kind of like how Mike and Che would be getting angry with each other but were always holding hands...lol).
      The Hollywood and Ash thing was just super weird. I got the impression that Hollywood had no interest in any one on ones with Dr. Nicole (or they didn't show them). Almost everything going on between them was that Ash was trapped in the past and Hollywood just couldn't get why no matter how hard he tried. His thinking was that if this was such a problem why didn't she just leave? And her whole thing was that she wanted him to leave, I'm guessing, so she could say I told you that you would leave. I haven't looked into it, but I heard Dr. Nicole convinced Ash to leave him and I heard she dumped him on the Gram. :shrug emoji: I thought it was ridiculous that she said yes to marrying him when she was so unsure of what she wanted and whether she could get past it. I'm sure it was because she didn't want to be the one saying no when the two really messed up relationships ended up saying yes (I do believe Mike and Che were the most ready, but they definitely are not ready...lol).
      When I watch Ready to Love, I see it as a very man-centric show. I think its goal is to make the men happy and it really doesn't seem to care at all about how the women feel (all season long, Denice had the most realistic emotions and everyone kept saying she shouldn't do that). When I watched this show, it seemed clear to me that the makers of the show were just trying to make something that looked nuts (Hollywood and Ash went on it to act, in my opinion, and while Ash tried to be method Hollywood just couldn't do it until the end when she didn't want to 'act' anymore). While I can definitely see that Dr. Nicole sided with Mike the most, I'm not sure I agree about Hollywood (she sided with Ash generally), and I think she was on Tamika's side but just kind of threw her hands up and said the only way this will work is if you get past it while knowing Tamika shouldn't get past it since she wouldn't just up and leave.
      The show makers couldn't seriously think any of these couples would get married (and they all still might not get married). If they aren't doing a real ceremony at the end of the show, then it could just be people saying, 'yeah, let's get married (in 20 years)'. I can't even imagine what the show would have been like if Eyuless and MiMi had stayed throughout it. If I were to categorize it, I would guess their 'formula' was a) one couple who should be married that weren't (Hollywood/Ash) b) one couple with mismatched priorities/maturities that could be fixed but probably won't be (Mike/Che) c) one couple who never ever should be married (Eyuless/MiMi, Vince/Tamika). This one kind of reminded me of the reunion of RTL season 2, where Tommy just put all kinds of people together to say, 'hey, we nailed this', which was absurd when absolutely everything was bad for every single potential 'couple'.
      I'm not sure I know the magic formula for how to make Dr. Nicole work on this show or how they deal with having couples that could easily throw in the towel in the first episode. To me, absolutely nothing got fixed in this season (other than Dr. Nicole manipulating Che into a 'selfish' form of thinking that could maybe get her past the Zion thing). Tamika and Vince were off the rails by the end of the show and BOOM engaged with absolutely nothing changing other than Vince's half-ass admitting he did *something*. Ash still felt the exact same way she did at the beginning of the season, but no way no how she wanted to be with Kwame. That was just her getting her thespian stars without having another guy she might actually want in the picture. The guy that was right up her alley was the Charles guy. She ran as far away as she could from him because she knew it would be dangerous to go on another date with him. When a guy calls a woman the b-word on a first date, that's an enormous red flag and Kwame didn't lower any red flags throughout the show with his constant staring at Ash's behind and his ogling of her acting like they had great chemistry when all that I saw was completely one sided.
      This will also come back for another season in the summer and I'll be interested to see how they do this time around. I'll be curious to see if they did the next season before or after the first season finished airing. That would make a pretty big difference in how the show goes.

      I don't feel she let Vince off the hook she just didn't waste a whole lotta time beating a dead horse. Notice she never told anyone what to do she just laid a foundation and left it up to them. Plus Tamika entered that relationship as the other woman. She saw his behavior from the beginning and still stayed with him. At this point she should let him cheat in peace or leave.

    • @NotreadyTolove
      @NotreadyTolove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alan I think the criticism of Dr. Nicole is that she consistently criticized Tamika for the way she felt about Vince, while rarely ever criticizing him for his role in it even though Dr. Nicole knew he was playing to the cameras to make himself come off a certain way. In a way it fed into Vince's gaslighting of Tamika (his gaslighting is confirmed as he literally did it on camera for the audience). I honestly think Dr. Nicole was trying to break every couple up and they were extremely bad at getting her reverse psychology intended to make that happen causing them all to accept proposals...lol. I heard Dr. Nicole's continued work with Ashley is what caused her to dump Hollywood on the Gram though I've never watched any of the stuff related to their breakup.
      As for the last part, Tamika was under the impression that she was the only one until the DMs rolled in. Vince told her he wasn't with that woman. Later on appeared to tell a much different story that Vince continued to lie about. Either way, you're right that she shouldn't have stayed with him (or let him do whatever since that's what he was doing when they met) and taking a grudge like that all the way to a marriage proposal is something I don't have words to describe. Their relationship was beyond toxic on the show.
