In days of old, backpacking tents were made or more robust fabric, that folks would still use some poly under the floor. When the race to shave grams, the floor fabric thinned or became the same as side walls. I have not bought a tent since 2000 that I would not want to use without a footprint or Tyvek. A retired BA Fly Creek (Ver1) went through two foot prints. Well timed and well done.
