+FJ Dubya Thank you for your lovely comment. I agree, analog has a certain presence and warmth that simply cannot be emulated on digital synths (not that there's anything wrong with digital synths, of course). Analog simply feels alive and fully of electricity and energy... because it is! :)
Marvelous! Excellent work! That Akai has some wonderful timbres! Great effects choices as well-you can't go wrong with Eventide and Strymon... I love what you're doing there! Cheers! -V
+VCMsoundvision Hey, thanks for your kind words, really appreciate it! Yes, the Eventide and Strymon pedals do add lushness, but the AX-60's analog qualities really take things to another level. :)
+AwakeFM Thanks! Yes, vintage Akai analogs can create some very interesting sounds, timbres and tones that are a bit different from other synths. Glad to hear you own both!
Which of them is preferred? Or are they different enough to own both? I was into getting the AX-80 but never got to it, the lust for it have not faded though. Thanks for sharing the video sounds really nice.
Amazing. Why don't Aki make synths anymore?. Everyone in the 80's played the same synths and all sounded the same, ie DX7, Korg M1. But this is different, just what we want, for electronic music to evolve. to me. Synthesizers should be an extension of ourselves not everyone else. you could in the 80's and 90's tell what synth they used by the sound alone. This demo is incredible.
At the time of release I don't think these models took off in the market. Nonetheless they are excellent synths. The Ax60 is one of my favorites and sounds great IMO.
Awesome Man!! And again, I already got some influence. Gonna pick up my Spanish guitar again and try to augment this. Already began takin' guitar lessons and now my guitar teacher is startin' to show me music theory. There's a lot to learn, but I think it'll really help me to better augment somethin' other musicians play. Like always, keep up the good work!
+lightnintrucker Thanks man, really glad you enjoyed this one and had fun jamming along with your Spanish guitar. Keep up the lessons, music theory and practice! :)
You could plug any of those synths into that reverb and delay and get the same stuff out of this. I had an AX60 and it was cool, but it wasn't THAT cool. (to be fair im sad i dont have it now tho)
+curebdc You might be able to plugin any synth into an FX box, but they all have different character and from my experience, they don't all sound the same. True analog VCO will always sound more alive than digital, IMO. Hopefully one day you'll be able to acquire an AX-60 again... personally I think it's a great synth packed with decent features for the price point they go for these days, quite underrated. I love the PWM on this synth.
Soooooo, which do you prefer, the Big Sky or Space? (On it's own)...seems like the Big Sky is more bright and has more of it's own sound where the Space is a bit more going with the synth's sounds and then shaping that.......Both do sound great, but trying to figure which one for live pads.
Depends on usage and sound you're after. Big Sky is more airy and ethereal, warm and mystical. SPACE is darker, gritty, cold and more natural. For huge pads with atmospheric quality, Big Sky would probably be a good choice. For darker or more nuanced soundscapes, SPACE would get the edge.
Thanks! When you say underlying sound, are you referrring to the sustained chord/pad over top the arpeggiator pattern? If so, it was a separate patch on a split layer.
Its a pad type sound... so long ADSR attack, decay, sustain and release envelope/amp settings, lowered filter and some resonance... which gets more airy when fed through Strymon Big Sky.
Which would you suggest if wanting to achieve ambient/dark textures out of the waldorf biofeld or access virus? say autechre amber/garbage era. unrelated to the video I know
+Scott Claremont I haven't used Waldorf Blofeld myself nor the Virus TI series, but I have used Virus B and C. I would say Virus B could give you those early 90s tones, and Virus C for dark moody sounds. TI sounds quite clean and pristine to my ears but also has more sound sculpting options.Blofeld's wavetable capabilities also make it worth considering. But Virus B and C have a classic, timeless sound to them if that's what you're after.
Had an AX60. Twice. Had to sell each during periods of hardship. For way too little. Now I see them go for 800+ on Ripoffbay. I'll never be ablle to afford one again. I bought the one s I had for $300 and less. Those were the days where one could get an AX60 for $300 or less. I miss those days.
If one appears in my town (Tacoma, WA) and then way overpriced. Those good deals are most often out of State and then they don't ship. And Craigslist labeling non local buyers as scammers and crooks doesn't help.
Analog really sings ...especially with the right touch. Analog = life.

Beautiful track !!! Nice Chords and great use of sound, reverb and delay affects! Greetings from Germany, Ralph
The AX-60 sounds better than I thought it might. Of course, the Strymon and Eventide delay really help, too.
Yea the pedals help a lot. But the PWM on AX-60 is lovely.
@@synth4ever - Yes - PWM is one of my favorite waveforms! Timbral change without a filter.
The title said the truth!
wonderful spacey evolving sounds!
+VolcaRock I'm glad you liked the music, thank you!
STRYMAN Big Sky rocks the world!
Great reverb fx with Big Sky, is fantastic. Nice old analog synth, beautiful relaxing music :-)
+i Faber Appreciate your kind words and support! :) BigSky does sound lovely.

Wicked!! I love the old Akai analogs. I have an AX-60 and an AX-80 in the studio myself.

wow like the sound from Akai station fantastic my friend - more more...
+Takai Akita ah... video kool idea
Nice synth and an awesome Dean Friedman t-shirt there.
Yep. NY School of Synthesis is where it's at. Friedman is a legend!
Wouaw, amazing ! You play exactly the style of music i love ! I will bought a Bigsky too this year...cool
Thank you serge... you will love the Big Sky! :)
Merci !

Ultimate chill! Good work!
+MrFricoco Thanks a lot!
excellent !
I love it, wonderful!
This was divine :)
+Soundole VGM Covers :)
lovely pads
+Shimanski Beats Cheers... AX60 can do some wonderful sounds and pads (besides harsh noises), you just have to coax them out a bit. :)
Sounds just like Mass Effect 3! Dope!
Awesome! I really need the Bigsky!! next year :)
Thanks! Yes, Big Sky is worth acquiring. :)
WISH I HAD ONE !

Thanks for this, I have a technics wsa1 and I was thinking I needed this too, I'll look for a killer reverb instead

Bought the Space first....will end up with both....good demos man btw -
Wow, l think you just increased the ebay price of these by 50% . very good, very Eno.
+Needle Factory Hehe... thanks. :) AX60 is a great synth, well worth current prices... maybe even more.
nice!
Thank you! Glad you liked the music.
Great landscape pads !
Are you putting the delay after the reverb or the other way around ?
or parallele perhaps ?
best
t
+Thomas Muller Thank you Thomas! The signal chain is synth --> delay --> reverb in serial. :)
Do there pedals have a true analog 100% signal path when you turn the delay down? Or does the whole signal pass through ad/da converters?
Yummie!!!
+tastenquasper “rbtnk” :)
Sounds's amazing! What did you do to create the underlying sound at 1:06?
Thanks! When you say underlying sound, are you referrring to the sustained chord/pad over top the arpeggiator pattern? If so, it was a separate patch on a split layer.
That's awesome, I was talking about the sustained pad. What did you do to make the patch?
Its a pad type sound... so long ADSR attack, decay, sustain and release envelope/amp settings, lowered filter and some resonance... which gets more airy when fed through Strymon Big Sky.
Sweet, thanks so much!
How close do you think a Boss rv-3 pedal could get to replicating a similar effect?
Dean Friedman would be proud of that shirt.
Indeed... I ordered direct from him :)

+synth4ever Ok that's cool to know. I've already a nord lead 2x, looking to add. cheers

Its a great and versatile synth. You can still find deals on Craigslist. Have seen them around $350-$450 at times.
If one appears in my town (Tacoma, WA) and then way overpriced. Those good deals are most often out of State and then they don't ship. And Craigslist labeling non local buyers as scammers and crooks doesn't help.
i see one on CL for $700 in Dunedin, FL...hmmm is it worth it?
Negotiate and get it.
IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN BRAZIL?
+clovesbrilhante Maybe on 2nd hand market... Akai AX60 was made in the 1980s! :)
muito show esse AKAI AX60.Pena que eu não tenho condições de compra um desses,o meu e um teclado b-20 o meu salario e de 880 reias.
And, without reverb and delay it sounds like.......???
It sounds great
Nice!!!!
