I was fishing about 3 weeks ago at government wash!! I tried everything lures, swimbait, chatter bait, spinners! NOTHING a first!! Then I used some wet anchovies from Walmart! Me and my friends caught a total of 9!! I looked through the stomachs as I was fileting them and all they had was anchovies!! People USE WET ANCHOVIES! The stripper have grown accustomed to the taste. I had a bag of dried anchovies from bass pro and nothing!!
Sin City Outdoors someone mentioned using bigger hooks and bigger pieces of the anchovies. You should do a video doing that and tell us how it goes. Last weekend was my first time fishing Lake Mead since I was 12 (almost 28 years ago) and used a 1.0 Octopus hook, Carolina rig (hybrid) and the bottom 1/3 of frozen anchovies with success catching striper (we caught about 15-18 between the three of us in under 2 hours) as well but all pretty thin. Good luck! If you read this, I cooked 6 that I kept and ALL were great flavor but HORRIBLE gelatinous in texture. No matter what I did I couldn’t get the meat to fully cook I think. I did cook them pretty much whole (minus head) but grilling, broiling, baking and pan sear i just couldn’t figure it out. Any tips anyone?
David Carter, I always batter the filets fish and chips style with egg flour and mixed spices. Deep fry them in canola oil or vegetable oil. They turn our really good! Stripper and catfish is good fish and chip style, bluegill is good whole deep fried, trout I wrap in whole in foil with butter and mixed spices. Bass is good anyway you do it! 👍😎🇺🇸
That’s awesome! I’ve used bigger bait before but there’s hardly any bigger fish in the lake to enticed. And to be honest that’s why we don’t like to keep the skinny fish but that’s all we catch out of lake mead anymore. The meat is very mushy compared to a healthy striper where the meat will be very firm and almost clear. When I cook the skinny ones, it tastes and seems like they don’t cook all the way through when they actually are. Weird but I think it has a lot to do with just the quality of meat. And I’ve always had better luck with smaller hooks for bass and striper.

Vegas local here, some of my peoples been catching stripers out on Lake Mead and they tell me the texture of the fish is mushy.... they all are pretty much skinny.. are the fatter ones meat more firm??? We will start trying to catch them at Mojave and hope they are more healthier stripers out there.

Tony Phillips lmao I had my deep sea rod out at a reservoir and people didn’t move from next to me and they made me lose like 2 $30 lures so I pissed and they were on a boat and I put a 3oz lead weight on and hit the side of their boat they moved pretty fast

Brooooo that's what I said... you dont really need a boat, try Hemmingway Harbor between the pier and the boat ramp... around 3pm-7pm.... you can catch cooler worth.... government wash is good too but they all are hit and miss throughout Lake Mead.
The politicians here in maryland would lock you up and charge you $500 per fish under 18 inches, but first they charge us $15 just for the RIGHT to catch a fish !
Hell no. Call people out for their bad behavior. They have the entire lake of THOUSANDS of mile of shoreline and he sets up 4 feet from you? Gtfoh. Not cool. I get it at a small pond where there may not be other places to fish if its crowded, but lake mead is huge.
