Also I was in my 30s before I knew other people can hear my stomach grumbling and breathing at all times. Jeez. I bet I've given away a few crushes and stuff unknowingly hahahaha

Hahah this is DEAFinitely me. I work in a microbiology research lab and I CONSTANTLY leave the water on after washing my hands (which, as I'm sure you can imagine, is quite a lot given my line of work). I also find immense happiness in watching people's faces when, after performing a song, they find out that I am 90% deaf! These made me crack up! Thanks for posting, Jazzy!

When my partner gone to bed early to get ready for work next day… I talking to mum, and laughing so hard, then mum said “shhhh, he trying to sleep” then I looked at mum “huh, he’s deaf like me, remember!” Lol then we end up laughing at that

I lost my hearing really suddenly so there was quite an adaptation period. The main thing I used to do all the time was not closing car doors properly because I couldn't hear it. The dishwasher thing is so true though because you really can't feel it vibrating or anything.

i'm hearing but i've done the same thing with the bath before! the sound of the water is relaxing to me so i end up forgetting how long it's been... now like you, i have to bring my stuff into the bathroom so i can keep an eye on it haha

I was cracking up for most of it. Especially the little captions about you sleeping.
Also, I wanted to thank you for making those BSL teaching videos on IOA. My partner had me learn some, and I just recently got the course after I indeed found myself using some at work for a punter at an event.

As a hearing person, I found your #4 about sleeping through loud noises amusing. There are birds out my window that are suuuper quiet, but they repeat the same annoying noise over and over again at 4-5 am, and they always wake up my hearing roommate and me! Even the quietest of noises bother us for some reason 🤷‍♀️

    • @lolaartemis
      @lolaartemis ปีที่แล้ว +4

I routinely sleep through the loudest of alarms and sudden noises. My mate recorded himself saying, wake up!, in a normal tone of voice, and it wakes me up without fail. My brain doesn't want to bother me for tragedy or alarm, but it wants me to wake up for my mate!

I totally relate to the kettle one because it happens so often! Whilst it’s boiling I go do things elsewhere in the house so won’t hear it finish from another room, and then a while later I think ‘I’m so thirsty…I need a drink’. Then remember I was boiling the kettle to make a drink but didn’t hear it finish, so have to boil kettle again! 🤦‍♀️

One thing most funny is.... I thought I was alone in my home.. I was in kitchen washing up and signing singing a song for a bit... when finish washing up I turned around to see my son laughing his head off.. he has been standing there for quite long time. He told me he heard me singing and came into the kitchen.. he was in his bedroom and door was shut... I have never felt sooo tiny....

I've been a "seeing guide daughter" since I was four, so this is relatable, but in almost the opposite ways. Don't ever move the spices in a blind person's house - you'll never know what you'll end up eating! Also don't flick the lights on and off in a blind person's house unless you want them freaking out!
I used to know enough ASL to have a basic conversation, catch kids swearing/plotting mischief, for emergency situations (eg bears, fire, illness) and sing kids/camp songs in ASL. The outdoor education centre where I started teaching years ago used to have deaf/DEAF camp. But years before I started there, ASL and signed English, became such a part of the organization's culture that basic ASL and and deaf culture 101was part of all the staff's training - partly because both hearing and deaf kids would try to get away with things by using sign.
It's on my radar to relearn ASL and/or learn BSL and have picked up a tiny bit of ASL (not the swear words this time!) but right now I'm working on my French, Dutch, and Javascript.
I love seeing BSL in your videos Jazzy.

I'm HoH and can relate to a lot of them. My dogs let me know when someone knocks on the door. One day my husband took the dogs for a walk but the gate into the back garden blew shut and he couldn't get in so was knocking on the front door for ages and I didn't have my hearing aids in so didn't hear him, he was not impressed 😂 unfortunately I also suffer with insomnia so although I might not hear the noise I still can't sleep.

I always tell people call my phone if they are the door. They get mad at me instead. I too have to be careful my water is running. Similar situation at my house. When I go upstairs and downstairs I don't know who is behind me. I go skating for fun and people have no clue only few can figure it out. I still hate thunderstorms at night. It's the vibration wakes me up.

    • @davedaring9823

....No. There is no form of narcissistic abuse which is called "vacuuming", anywhere, by anyone. It is also not relevant to this video at all.

@@davedaring9823 I was under the impression that hoovering is the term for vacuuming that is used in the UK. In the UK a vacuum is called a hoover, so the act of vacuuming is also hoovering. Wait, are you British (I'm going by the British words in the subtitles I got)? If you are, does that mean the language you're using is (from what I've heard) so different from ASL it's a good thing we have English in common?
This is all new to me but I find the dead world so fascinating. Btw, I can relate to "deaf envy" when it comes to snoring! I've often wished for temporary deafness as I hunted around for cotton and wax to stuff my ears. Also, you're right about the power of flashing lights. I learned that in Germany where they blink headlights at cars to get their drivers' attention rather than futilely honking the horn.
Thanks so much for making videos like this, I feel like I get a lot out of them!

Forget to turn the taps off? At one of my last jobs which was pizza hut, I flooded that kitchen so many times. 99% of the time it was the sink in the back so the customers had no clue. But the whole back into the freezer would be flooded. Once, it did flood enough to come to the front area. Another time, I flooded the front by the register with the front sink. Oops
Deliveries. That's what my dog is for lol She's goes insane at anyone at the door. She has such a high pitch bark that she's loud to me. I can only imagine how loud she is to hearing people.
At least your family flashes the light for you. Mine just scream across the house until I either hear them, or they give up. Thankfully my mom has picked up on to just go find me and get me.
I have slept through a drunk driver going through our yard, taking out our fence and whole tree. Including my family freaking out, our chihuahua at the time flipping out, police officers showing up, the whole circus. I have slept through tornadoes too. My mom will text me in the morning, "What's the damage from the tornado?" I'll be like, "What tornado?"
I would kill anyone who vacuums in my room while I'm sleep. Or vacuum at all while I'm asleep. That is one thing I can still hear. And now that I have a shikifuton (floor mattress), I can feel the vibrations through the floor.
The dishwasher one. My response is, "My bad!" Thankfully I live alone now, so I turn on the dishwasher, put my hand on it to see if it is vibrating, then walk away. I have, back at my old job at pizza hut, opened that huge dishwasher while it was running and got sprayed in the face. That water is hot too!
