    The Dimarzio by faaar! Open, harmonic and note separation. The SD sounds like a wet towel was put on the amp/pup

    The JB's darkness works really well for late 90s early 2000s metal, and was used by guys like Steph Carpenter for Around the Fur and contributes to the era sound of bands like Alien Ant Farm.

      Apart from the older guys. My old guitar teacher was a proper 80's shred guy. He was always PAF Pro or Fred is all you need for everything

    Love this! You do such a great job with comparing pickups. I didn't realize how dark the JB's sound clean. Love the SH-4 (I have the TB-4's in several guitars) but also love the PAF Pro in the Bridge and Neck .... The thing about the Dimarzio in the bridge it just has a better almost strat like clean sound (at least for the sound I like and am looking for). Once distorted they are very close in sound. Both are great but this video I think shows the clarity of the PAF PRO and the versatility both clean and dirty. Love them both!

    I have used both pups for 30 years and my conclusion is the JB is better for rhythm and the PAF for solos and melodic material. The PAF has nice wild high mids and the JB has a solid chunky foundation with a top end that cuts trough.

      do you think an SH4 bridge with a paf pro in the neck would make a good combo?

    On the last example, the DiMarzio has a killer woody knock on the low string palm mutes that's absent on the JB. I've been chasing that tone and have just bought one to see if it translates in my guitars.

    PAF pro for me. A Humbucker capable of being a bit too bright is a nice problem to have 😉. You can always dial down brightness but you can never dial in what’s not there to begin with. I personally find the JB absolutely obnoxious voicing wise.

    Dimarzios = hex-key poles
    Seymour Duncan = standard poles common to vintage PAF
    Maybe thats the cognitive dissonance everyone is struggling with? Because both sound good.
    Its a very close call. Paf pro sounds more forward and jb has more color in its cleans and fatter pal mute tones. Both are winners here.

    Why do Seymour Duncans sound as if the volume/tone knob has turned down a little?

    • @capaya8139
      @capaya8139 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      the duncan is wound with 44 gauge wire, which can allow for more turns which means more output at the expense of some treble

    • @honigdachs.
      @honigdachs. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Pickups don't need to "cut through the mix". It's one of those terrible cliches that people use all the time. It's the mixing engineers' job to make things audible in the mix.

    • @peppersprayer
      @peppersprayer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@honigdachs. if that’s the case the only thing it matters is your amp and a sound engineer,so I don’t get why are you interested in this comparison anyways

    • @honigdachs.
      @honigdachs. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@peppersprayer Well I already told you in the original comment. Pickups don't need to "cut through the mix". It's just one of those stupid audio phrases that everyone uses. If we're talking about recording, there's no way how you would need a specific pickup to make the guitar tracks sit where they're supposed to. That's a matter of mixing decisions and pickups don't even sound that dramatically different from each other. If you're not being heard in band practice, the pickups are the last thing to be worried about.
