In this impressionistic documentary, visual artists and film-makers Ivete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan follow Eddie 'Bear' Lopez at the Austin American-Statesman newspaper printing warehouse where Lopez has worked for more than 20 years. Throughout his life Lopez has been collecting items he comes across - creating shrines at his home, in his vehicles and his work station. The film-makers join Lopez as he ventures out into the empty streets to deliver newspapers

21 years without a day off. We live in a broken world. Thank you for a great video

Not a warehouse. It's a newspaper. Different gig. Plus it's a night job takes a special kind of person to work nights and the wee hours of the morning. Did this for 8 years working in the newspaper mailbox bundling newspapers, inserting advertising, labeling mailed papers. Would have liked to have seen the whole process shown. I've delivered papers too. I liked the job. It's very physically taxing and was ridiculously underpaid unless you were a pressman.
People need to see more of this so they start to appreciate what it takes to do so called blue collar jobs. These workers don't get nearly enough respect.

    Texans reading the NYT?!
Some old school jobs here that were abolished 25 years ago by Murdoch in my country-manual inserters, manual packaging, and manual delivery.
Loved that people with disabilities had access to some of these jobs.

I’d say the format was a lil jarring but I stuck it out and really appreciate the narrative. Reminder to me how a story can so expressive and immersive yet doesn’t have (or need) someone narrating or explaining anything. We’ve become so caught up in the rush and noise we often forget we’re all on a journey, and never once did it note if Bear was happy every day of those 60yrs..to some watching may seem like turmoil. Thank you for telling your story.

Being a Brit I thought seeing papers being thrown into front gardens was just something which happened in movies. What a surprisingly interesting yet sad watch. Workers = basically all minions.

I have worked in both U.K. and usa doing similar jobs and the pay and treatment is so much better in the USA plus the money is much better than what I got paid in U.K.

@@Tdr-jv2nc I kinda didn't mean the rate of pay for country I meant more being at the bottom of the ladder (no disrespect at all intented to Bear. I like his Jewellery and to do it so long he moved love it). I do not enjoy my job and that's interesting to hear we're being shafted over the pond. I've always fancied living in California or Colorado. In my role in telecoms, I'm mixing more and more with the "seniors" and realising sometimes the higher you go-actually the less work you do and more waffle and hot hair you spout. See you in the US someday.

@@truth-hurts3089 In the USA that’s exactly the way to go! The higher up you get the less work you have to do 😂👍🏻

Much love to Bear and his Tiny Chihuahua. You're AMAZING man!! Respect to you and others who do the work no one else will do. Nothing like a newspaper on my porch in the morning. I miss it.

Great doc. But a little more info would be handy. What does 22c a paper actually mean? If u do one an hour it's nowt but if u can do 100 then it's well paid no?
Work every day for 365 is bad but how many hours a day?
If I can work 2 hours a day 4am and earn £50 then that sounds ok.
so a little more perspective would have been handy.

Not to say its not a penance but there's still millions of millions more working in sweatshops, factories, and other industries on earth making a dollar an hour or less. Which i suppose is a bright side for these people

The format was REALLY bad. The yellow text was too small to read on my television and the two small videos playing alongside each other were distracting and disorientating. I gave to up watching it after about 30 seconds.
PLEASE stop using techniques like this (and others, such as those awful "portrait mode, pseudo-3D phone" styled videos) and just make basic, standardized videos, that anyone can watch. This isn't an art-house channel; it's a place where anyone should be able to access information or your opinions easily. If you want to add some sparkle to your videos, check out how the bigboys, like "Vox" does their videos.

Yellow text didn't work at all. Format was certainly different. Can't fault the producers' style or creativity. But, it would have worked better with a few more traditional elements. Bear's happiness would have shone through if we had heard him speak once or twice. But anyway... great job nonetheless.
