What a cutie!! I've had my diamond dove for four years now, he pecks at me a lot and likes to chase my hand around. Sometimes he'll slap me with his wing haha xD
I spend alot of time with one of my Doves. We coo back and forth to each other but when i put my hands near him he gets scared and tries to fly away. I've been doing research on how to tame them and i've been trying to tame him for a while. I've had them for three years and still aren't used to me.
Josephine Pace a little late but try having your hands on the cage without opening it for a few weeks then move into having your hands in it for a few days eventually it’ll get used to your hands sorry for being late hope I helped!
Hello , I recently got a female diamond dove. She is really shy and gets scared a lot. I want her to trust me but I also don't want to her to feel threatened. Can you give me some tips on how to tame her.
How old is she? If you know by chance. If she's already molted or at least a year old, it'll be harder to tame, and it'll take quite a while to get her to get use to you. I usually clip their flights so they can't fly away and hurt themselves around the house. That way, you can work with her by having her perch your fingers for a few hours everyday. Doing this, she'll start to get use to you and be alot calmer. Then by the time she's tame, her flights will grow out already and tadah! You have a tame diamond dove. But you'll have to spend a few hours with her a day though.
Listen, I have my ways to tamed all of my birds and have been very successful. You can do whatever you want with yours. I'm doing this so mine doesn't fly into walls and windows that break their beaks which had happened in the past. So... if it works for me, that's what I'm sticking with. That dove in the video had grown to attached to me by flying to my fingers when I lift them up, so......
@@bluetheirn well, I try to teach them to fly safely instead. Of course it is more difficult, but I always prefer the right way to the easy one😜. I only clip their wings when strictly necessary, for example if the bird is blind (like one of mine). Birds are flying machines, if you don’t like it, maybe you should not keep them. Don’t you like hamsters?😁
@@martinquails3395 Trying to teach them won't work when they're skittish and you can't even go near them. Let alone walkin by their cage and they jumped all around inside like a cat is about to snatched them. They usually fly off right away when you start inching into their comfort zone. Especially when people received older birds to start with. Not that easy to handle when they're nervous to be near humans and had never been handled before. As we all know, their flights grows back, and by the time it does, they're pretty much tamed already depending how much work and time you've put in by spending time with your pet bird. My method has always work for me. Nobody has to follow. I have all love for animals including Hamsters. But I won't keep one yet.
Keep having him perch on your fingers everyday for an hour or two. Keep it up and soon enough, he'll start to get use to you and won't be scared everytime you want him to hop up on your finger. I did that with mine and it's flights clipped. They'll grow back no matter what.
Oh thanks so far I’ve gotten him to go on my hand and take food out of my hand. Do you have a specific kind of food you feed your diamond dove? Because I heard giving them finch and canary food works but I was wondering if you knew of any food for diamond doves.
That's good to hear that he/she is getting better with you. No, I don't have any specific kind of food. I use universal blend seeds made for smaller birds like Canaries/Parakeets that can be found at Walmart.
