Hello, thank you so miuch for this video! Just wondering, because water is flowing over the gills and oxygen is being absorbed from the water, would we say that the fish is using diffusion or osmosis. Thank you!
Hello, it is diffusion as it is the oxygen that is being exchanged, not the water. The water is flowing over the gill, not entering. Hope that helps :D
Hi, I have added that to my list :) There will be a slight delay as I am currently still recovering for Covid-19 and it is affecting my voice and energy levels.
thank you for this wonderful lecture, water has 30 times less oxygen than air, do you mean concentration of oxygen per mg per a unit volume, thank you again.
hello, is the ventilation and gas exchange system in fish the same? like if it asks for gas exchange, is that just the same as how ventilation works? (with the countercurrent system of course)
if your doing aqa A level it wont ask about ventilation - idk whether they are the same or not but it will only ask you about the gass exchange in fish so you would talk about the lamellae and countercurrent flow etc
In the very bottom gill fish anatomy photo. I can’t wrap my head around why it says rich blood flows in, following the direction of water, and then comes out deoxygenated. Is the image incorrect and drawn oppositely by mistake? Or am i being dumb. Please help I’m so confused lol
I'm not exactly sure tbh but I think it's okay to ignore the coloured arrows, just know that the highER oxygen water meets the high oxygen blood and the low oxygen water meets the lowER oxygen blood as they're going opposite ways. Hope this helped, if not Im very sorry!!
You explained something much better in 9 minutes than my 2 hour lecture, thank you dear

Hi miss will we be given Fick's Law or do we have to memorise it for the exam?

No mention of parallel flow 😢
its the same as the countercurrent exchange principle
Wow
