Instead we had to hear that Twilight star (am I wrong, or they didn't mention the movie in her intro? Not that I saw it, but that's all she is to me) stattering her chaotic thoughts. Oh my.

      This girl made over 30 movies, is praised by coworkers and directors and critics, many of which brilliant ( Sean Penn, Julianne Moore, Patti Smith, Juliette Binoche, Charlize Theron, Jodie Foster and literally every person she ever worked with!), so the fact that you follow other sheep hating on her for Twilight she signed up for at 17, just shows your ignorance. She’s not a professional speaker, but an actress, you didn’t come to her Ted talk, so before criticizing someone this way, maybe educate yourself a little.

    ** I crush! I usually like Woody movies because there is almost always something creative and original in the script or because of sarcastic humor present in various sequences. The jokes about Jews are always funny and the performances of the actors normally exceed expectations. In the case of Café Society something went wrong in this formula. The actors, with rare exceptions, did not convince me, the jokes lost their grace and that something different, the letter of Rudolph Valentino, tastes like déjà vu, because we have seen similar scene with the mirror Shirley MacLaine in The Apartment. The disclosed blurb promises but does not fulfill the mission to please the spectators, nostalgic to review the old Hollywood, the 1930s Woody builds a warm story in which the protagonist would be an alter ego of the director / actor when young, but without the same grace to tell jokes. The truth is that nothing delighted me in this movie. I expected the ambition of the boy for a career in Hollywood, but his claims are very modest. Someone would trade the dream was cinema gold for Coffee Society? I Do not!

      Idol Rocks Cafe Society is pretty much the same as all Woody Allen's movies, dull rom-coms about either older men with younger women or just simply about affairs. Its like Woody Allen seems to elude to his own relationship with a younger woman, and I wouldnt mind but this woman, shes not just any "younger woman" she is the step-daughter of his Ex, Mia Farrow.
      I think Woody does these movies as somekind of therapy for himself, exploring why he has this thing for his ex's step-daughter, or even just women, young enough to be his own daughter anyway.

    • @idolrocks9017
      @idolrocks9017 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raiken Xion First of all, I don't want to know anything about the movie!!
      But here's an article and I'm assuming you've seen the movie, right?
      I highlighted the second half because the first half talks a whole lot about the movie.
      Anyways! Here's what it says:
      Woody Allen’s ‘Cafe Society’ is an improvement over his recent work
      As the love triangle at the center of Cafe Society begins to reveal itself it’s hard not to not to notice the familiar themes that have become commonplace in Allen’s most recent work. There is unrequited love throughout, and a clear longing for the answers to all of life’s “what ifs” despite the ever-present understanding that such revelations almost never manifest. To say Allen is working within his comfort zone might be an understatement, but he plays every beat with a liveliness that makes resistance next to impossible. You know you shouldn’t be swooned the way you were before because it has all been said and done a few times over, yet you cannot help wanting the characters on screen to find some peace, if only so you can continue to hope for more understanding in your own journey through life.
      The performances are strong across the board, but the real beauty of Cafe Society lies in Regina Graves’ set decoration and the cinematography of Vittorio Storaro. Allen’s vision of Hollywood’s golden era-though strictly limited to only what we see on screen-is downright gorgeous. Every shot is littered with eye candy that shines without overpowering the talent on screen. You can feel the warmth of the California sun and the make or break energy of New York City with each passing frame, and you’re left wishing that you could somehow explore it just a bit more.
      Allen’s signature snark and neurotic ticks are sprinkled throughout the script with select moments of brilliance. “Life is a comedy written by a sadistic comedy writer,” utters Bobby as he and Vonnie begin to fully grasp the reality of their individual situations and the passing of time. It’s a pretty great moment, but it’s one amidst an otherwise average sequence. Another, found earlier in the film, finds Bobby confessing to Vonnie, “I’m half-bored, half-fascinated, but I would trade it all for tacos with you.” Again, pretty great.
      With a body of work like Allen’s it is nearly impossible to experience something new without thinking of comparisons to everything he has created prior, and to his credit Cafe Society ultimately fairs far better than 2015’s Irrational Man or 2014’s Magic In The Moonlight. Still, the film lacks the driving emotional core of 2013’s Blue Jasmine and the creative genius of 2011’s Midnight In Paris. Cafe Society will most likely be remembered as a better than average entry in Woody Allen’s later era, but in the grand scheme of his contributions to film it is pretty average. Still, I’d take a pretty average Woody Allen over 90 percent of everything else we see released today.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idol Rocks Okay, well that was a mostly praising but fair (I guess) review of his latest movie. I guess if you're a massive fan of rom coms then you will like it, especially if you like Woody Allen movies.
      Hope you enjoy it

      No one doesn't need to separate the artist from the art, especially not when Allen's paedophilic and abhorrent nature is in the very fabric of his work. There is the seventeen-year old love interest in Manhattan, the joke about sex with a pair of sixteen-year-old twins in Annie Hall. When sexual abuse is built into the plots and humor of a work of art, the separation of the artist and the work begins to collapse. His constant fetishisation of relationships where theres an older man being emotionally fulfilled by a woman who is less than half his age is unbelievably disgusting and repetitive.
      Woody Allen has shown repeatedly in interviews his bizarre and harmful views on marriage and love. When he was asked how his marriage with Soon-Yi has changed him, he replied by listing all the ways in which he has made her life good. I don't think there is any circumstance in which marrying your wifes adopted daughter a year after she has become legal is in any way ok.
      And the notion that there isn't any proof for Allen's disgusting actions is bullshit as well. The presiding judge himself said that he believes the reports written had been sanitized by people who were loyal to Allen. Generally this type of victim blaming and dismissal of instances of abuse is unbelievably harmful in and of itself. Abuse is an unbelievably difficult allegation to prove, but does that mean that every victim is just lying? No it absolutely does not, and do not try to scapegoat the issue to Dylan's mother, who has nothing to do with the sexual abuse that dylan has endured.
      The main issue behind this is that by further glorifying horrible people like Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, and Bill Cosby, we are simply sending the message to society that as long as you are a powerful man you can get away with the most horrendous crimes because god forbid people see someone they adore and identify with be faced with the consequences of the monstrous actions.
      Yes they may create good art, but that doesn't mean that they should be revered any more than they already are or that they shouldnt be held accountable for their actions.
