It’s a valid point though. The whole team played like rubbish that night and the only two players who looked a threat and the most positive just happened to be the ones who came on with 15 minutes to go with fresh legs against a tired defence. Foden isn’t a 10. He’s not cities creative outlet, kdb is. Whenever foden plays 10 against good opposition or england he’s no where to be seen. What foden is good at is getting in goal scoring positions and dribbling in tight areas; he’s more of a second striker. Palmer is a better 10 and winger ; hes a lot more creative than foden, better range of pass, better positioninal awareness. The guys a creator.

i get why people say foden is a system player but it's not that simple. he's a hyper unique profile meaning he specializes in doing a few things in a certain part of the pitch(receiving and turning in the half spaces and getting shots off in the half spaces) and england don't have a system in which he can use his skillset. he's neither a 10 nor a winger and england are horrible tactically and can't create this position to maximize his skillset. the reason saka and palmer perform more often is that they can play in more traditionally defined positions like off the wing or as a 10. if foden was on the german team he'd bench wirtz and play as one of their 3 attacking midfielders

Any basic understanding of Pep would reveal that he doesn't have a system in the final third. He leaves that to the players. Foden around better players is going to look better. He's around lesser players who he plays with sporadically and playing out of position It's that simple.
