What to See, Do and Eat in Medan! 🇮🇩

- Being the 3rd largest city in Indonesia, Medan is the capital city of North Sumatra. I first stayed at ibis hotel for 1 night and for a business hotel, it's pretty spacious! I then spent the next day at Grand Mercure hotel and it honestly seemed like I got upgraded to a bigger room or something? I'm definitely not complaining though!
Places visited:
1. Soto Kesawan - One of the most popular breakfast spots in Medan serving up authentic Medan-style soto, which is a hearty savoury soup with coconut milk. The campur (mix) version comes with bits of beef, chicken chunks and a couple of prawns! It's pretty value for money in my opinion.
2. Tjong A Fie Mansion - a 35-room, 2 story mansion in Medan that belonged to Guangdong-born Tjong A Fie, who came to Medan when he was 17. He and his brother became extremely succesful businessmen with businesses in real estate, mining, banks, coconut, tobacco, tea, rubber, palm oil and sugar plantations. As a great philanthropist, Tjong A fie donated huge amounts to the community in Medan, regardless of race and religion.
3. Muse Coffee Shop - a popular cafe in Medan, known for their 100% arabica coffee beans. Super cosy space and extremely friendly service. The cheesecake was quite well-balanced and iced dark chocolate was quite rich too. Thank you for chatting with me and for the Nasi Padang! I was super touched!
4. Masjid Raya Al-Mashun - the most popular mosque in Medan that is the only one inspired by foreign architecture. Completed in 1909, it is a popular pilgrimage mosque. It combines Middle Eastern, Spanish and Indian elements.
5. DeliPark Mall - a huge and spacious mall that's good for doing some shopping and chilling!
