It freaked me out when I first saw the directors cut, because I thought I was watching the standard version. It makes the movie even more insane. For the lover of this movie that wish they could spend more time there. It works.

You should find the deleted scene which shows that Tom Hanks' character is gay and has a relationship with Howie Long. No, I'm not joking. I think I heard Hanks say that it was a nod to the fact that he based the character on Brian Epstein.

I 100% agree. Directors cuts are usually better IMO. They cut good shit just for time.
That Thing You DO was NOT a good directors cut. It just draaaaaaaaaaaaaags.

I haven't watched this movie in years, but really loved it. I also had such a crush on Liv Tyler back then, omg.

Truth be told, most director's cuts for films that clock in between 90 minutes and 2 hours are not good. Those scenes were cut for good reason and adding them back in typically messes with the flow of the picture.

One exception being The Butterfly Effect. Luckily I saw the directors cut FIRST, so I got the best ending. The theatrical ending is dog shit.,

Except the alien, alien3 and alien resurrection extended cuts are far superior. They are an exception to the rule.

Love the movie. I too am surprised the movie didn't do better in the theater! Great review! Love Steve Zahn in Sahara too, also an underrated movie!

I find the movie to be a boring one. I never understood why they made this movie?

I didn't really care for the Director's Cut either, but I will say it makes the ending feel slightly more earned as we get a little more interaction between Guy and Faye. The ending to the original cut always bothered me because it felt almost completely unearned and out of nowhere.

@@Frogottopicturecompany I still love this movie though and consider it a comfort film I put on when I’m feeling down or just want some background sound.

This is a rare case of the theatrical cut of a movie being better than the directors cut. Sometimes less is more.
