Thank you, Janice, for your kind comment. I've been retired for a long time and I still enjoy hearing from sister-sewists out there. I wish you the most success in your creative journey. Peg
I realise that this video was made 7 years ago but it is still just perfect. I have been sewing for more than 70 years but have learned a lot of new tips. Thank you Ms Baker for helping an old dog from England learn a few new tricks.
Hello, Bridget, Thanks so much for writing! You don't sound like an old dog at all; but rather a lovely older lady from across the pond! I'm in my seventies myself and I believe our love of the sewing craft keeps us young. There's so many ways to insert zippers: I simply demonstrate the methods that work best for me. I imagine you could certainly show me a tip or two! Best wishes for the holiday season. Sincerely, Peg
I saw a cushion I made around 2015 and thought, how did I manage to make that??? Then it was brought to memory that this was the exact video I watched!!! And years later here I am again! Thank you, Miss. Peg!!!! Fantastic tutorial!
Your sweet comment warmed my heart! Thank you for sharing your memory with me. I retired almost 6 years ago on my 70th birthday. Now, I'm enjoying simple sewing pleasures. However, I'm always here for my followers to answer questions and provide support. Thanks again, Peg

This remains the best cushion tutorial there is. I may have watched it 20 times. I watch it everytime I do another cushion just to refresh my mind! Even after 30 plus cushions i still watch it. Superb instructions
Dear Nicola, Thank you so much for your kind comment. I am honored to be in your workroom with you! Something I've discovered over the years is that the more I do something, the more likely a better technic will emerge, making the process even more streamed-lined and efficient. I imagine you've discovered this yourself. I wish you every success in your endeavors! If you ever have a question I can help with, feel free to write to my email address: littlebug903@yahoo.com. Sincerely, Peg
Very thorough tutorial! Lovely every step of the way-from start to finish! I was thinking with my out of practice moderate level of sewing skills I might tackle a piped and zippered pillow myself and decided to search for some tutorials to see what I was up against. This tutorial actually made me think I could possibly do this! Peg's voice and her demeanor are both so encouraging! Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise with us!
Dear Joanne, thank you so much for your kind words. I am very happy to hear that my little tutorial has inspired you to try your own pillow project! Thank you for this excellent video. Your voice is so calming and your technique so professional. Just the right combination for trying something new. My zippered, piped pillow came out beautiful!

I watch this one over and over again, until I get all the details right. Now I have an elegant pillow in my living room, that I made from a piece of fabric I held on to for decades, because I just loved it. Now I can see it everyday. Wish I could send you a photo!
Hello, Marlon, Thank you so much for writing. I'd love to see a photo of your pillow. You can write to me at littlebug903@yahoo.com. Congratulations on your determination and success! Sincerely, Peg
I always watch your tutorials - they are clear , good solid technique , and no drama - keeps me calm and reassured . Me and my sewing machine sometimes have a stand-off in attitude! the sewing machine usually wins , but your tutorials give me hope. Thankyou.
Thank you for your kind compliments! I can relate to the love/hate relationship with our sewing machines, but I think we can admit there's more love than not. I haven't uploaded tutorials for quite a few years. I retired almost six years ago at age 70 and am enjoying simple sewing pleasures. However, please let me know if you ever have any questions; I'm here for you. Peg
I watched several tutorials on sewing zippered pillows with piping. This was by far the best and I loved the extra up close camera work. The other tutorials were so far away it was up to your imagination to figure out what to do. Thank you!
Dear Patricia, I'm so happy to hear my little tutorials have been helpful! It's been about 10 years since I made that series and they could use some updating. My husband and I are taking a year's off to travel. When we get settled again, I hope to update many of my videos. In the meantime, I wish you the best of sewing adventures! Sincerely, Peg
Just as Marina said, this is by far the best tutorial I found. The wifey bought fabric the other day and asked me to make some replacement covers for our existing throw pillows. Now I can make them with confidence knowing they will come out perfect. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Liked and subscribed. We’ll deserved.
Hello, Stitch Boucher. Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind comment. I'm happy to hear that my little tutorial may have inspired you! Hi, J Ross, thanks so much for writing! I'm always happy to find that my little videos have helped someone. Those pesky pillow corners seem to be a fact of life for me: I'm glad I'm not alone! Best wishes for every sewing success. Sincerely, Peg
I wanted to cover 1metre long cushions for outdoor chairs and Peg's tutorial gave me the confidence to complete the project. I also watched Peg's tutorials on making bias: cutting and sewing, which were value packed with information. I added in 4 slots for the tabs to attach to the chair frame and job done. I am so proud of the end result and it was Peg's calm and commanding instructions that gave me the confidence to do the project. Thank you Peg!

It's Patsy again! It's been a while since I sewed up some pillows. I have a client whose dog is always chewing up pillow corners & she's been bringing those to me. For those, I'll just stitch across the bottom or side, depending on where the damage is - and there's no piping involved. She now wants 6 pillow shams made for existing pillows, plus 2 more that she hasn't decided what she wants them to look like. I struggled with the first one, trying to remember how the zipper/cording combo would be assembled. Then I remembered that I saved your video! I ripped the first pillow apart & used your method for all 6. I'm 4 pillows in & wanted to stop & say THANK YOU again! I appreciate you sharing your talents with us!
Dear Patsy, Thank you so much for writing! It's good to hear from a sister-sewist that success has been achieved and that I got to play a small part in that. I hope you'll continue to stay in touch. I'm retired now but I still connect with viewers as much as possible. If you'd like to send photos and details of your pillow project, please send them to littlebug903@yahoo.com. I'd love to hear from you again! Sincerely, Peg

I'm so happy to have your channel and this video. I bought a beautiful designer fabric and have had it for months. I've been sewing for years, but have never done piping and a zipper in one pillow. Thanks to you and your information I feel confident to try this. Wish me luck, and thanks again!

I used to make piped cushions with Velcro fastenings ,but as I haven’t made any for a long time decided to use a zip fastener and it took me ages to change a habit of a lifetime.i have watched your video over and over again so am ready to start again with a zip thanks to you .
Hi, Lilac2haze, thanks so much for writing. I'm so happy to hear you are inspired to try something different. I think you'll discover it's simpler (maybe not easier) than you thought. Fantastic tutorial thanks Peg. I have worn a path from my sewing machine to my computer but it has been so worth it. My first ever pillow, with piping no less! I was able to watch the video in full and then come back to it as I needed as I sewed. Beautifully filmed and explained with numerous handy tips along the way. Thanks again.

I used this and made 4 lovely cushions. They were flawless, as you said. The zip was completely hidden in the piping. Much better than any I’ve seen in the shops. They no longer match my current furniture, but I can’t bear to throw them away.

Thank you for a wonderful tutorial! Your instructions are so clear, and your calm speaking is very soothing and encouraging. I felt quite better about myself as a sewer when you reminded us that small mistakes don't necessarily reflect on the seamstress, but often have a lot to do with the materials (no excuse for not taking the time to fix those corners into corners that we can be proud of, of course, but the encouragement was very much appreciated!). Thank you again for taking the time to put up this lesson! :-)

Love your tutorial. Best one I found to help me try something I have always wanted to do. At the age of 71 I am trying to learn new skills and you certainly explain it so well. i am part way there now and after watching this for the third time I am ready to put in the zip and sew the two pieces together. A bit apprehensive but excited to see how it turns out. Thanks so much for your invaluable help.

Peg, I watch a lot of how to sewing and quilting videos, but by far, this is the very best instructional video I have seen. I am now confident that my piped pillows with zippers will look fabulous. Thank you so very much!!!
J Leach You are so kind to share this with me! My role is a very small one; your trying this out is where the work lies. If you ever get a chance to try my method, please let me know. I receive many photos from my viewers. If you'd like to share you project, please write to me at littlebug903@yahoo.com. Sincerely, Peg
Thanks to you I just made my first pillow. I had never owned a sewing machine and didn't know anything at all. Not even the difference between piping and cording. I used cording and even though the matching end and didn't turn out great I think I'll be the only one who notices ;) the biggest problem I had was one of the corners was not cut or sewn correctly so it's a little wonky . I'm just going to flip it on its side in again hope nobody sees it. I could not have done it without this video. Thank you

Thank you, peg, for a fabulous tutorial. I've sewn many cushions before but this is my first with home made bias cut piping. Very easy to follow and to listen to, a great step by step guide. I was heartened to see one of your corners didn't turn out perfect, made me feel a lot better when one of mine went awry. Will be watching again as I make my next one.

Thank you for the well done videos. May I add a suggestion for doing corners? I am primarily a fashion seamstress, one of the techniques I learned long ago for collar and cuff corners was to shorten the stitches starting about a 1/2" before the corner and a 1/2" after the corner, then return it to the normal length. Also, if you ever so slightly curve around the corner instead of at right angles, you come up with a stronger and smoother corner. Then correct if need be and trim the excess. It will not look rounded unless it has been exaggerated in the stitching process. I have used this on pillows as well as clothing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge so generously!

Thank you so much for such a clear video. I am making 6 cushions in silk . I have backed the silk with cotton to hopefully reinforce the silk. I have nearly finished the first one, but suspect I have over pressed the silk - it is quite hard to get all the creases out. Should I use steam or not and should I use a pressing cloth ? I would be really grateful for your guidance as I love the silk, but feel I am pressing out the body of the material. Mary
Dear Mary, Thank you so much for writing. Your project sounds wonderfully challenging! I imagine once you get through this, you'll be a silk expert. Before you go much further, try this solution that I googled. www.wikihow.com/Iron-Silk I send this to you because I haven't sewn silk in a while, although I recall using steam and a pressing cloth. One thing to be very careful of is "dribbles" of moisture from your iron. This could possibly leave a water stain. Otherwise, I think you are on the right track. Be aware also that not all silk fabrics are the same. There can be subtle variations in content and/or processing that can affect its performance. All this being said, I definitely want to hear more. Thanks to you I finished the first cushion today and am reasonably pleased with it. By number 6 I should either be better at it or throwing them at the wall! I'll take a photo when I have finished them. I have done tapered corners which gave me a bit of a problem with the zip - should have thought about that! Anyway your videos made all the difference ,thank you so much.
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make such a great video showing this process. I used it to make 2 pillows and am very pleased with the results. I've linked back to your video in the blog post I wrote today. Thank you again! Lisa
Very clear and informative video! I have some sewing experience but have never tried a piped and zippered cushion. I'll make one soon and hope it turns out as well as yours :-) Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Patricia Esguerra Galan Hi Patricia, Your kind comments are deeply appreciated; Thank you so much! I'd love to hear how your project comes out. Dear Beth, Thanks so much for your kind comment. I sewed professionally for over 30 years, primarily custom slipcovers and cushion work, but also custom shades and draperies. I retired three years ago. While I miss the personal contact, I thoroughly enjoy connecting with youtube viewers. Thanks again for making my day! Peg
Hi Peg I have only just seen your video Feb 2024. It is a lightbulb moment for inserting cushion zips for me. I have always been taught to do the piped side first......really difficult. Doing it your way is so much easier. Shame is taken so long for me to find your tutorial. Many thanks Ann Stuart, Coventry UK
Hi, Ann, How sweet of you to write! I'm so glad to hear that my little tutorial was helpful. Since that video, I tweaked the process a little more but I never got around to recording it. Perhaps that is in my future! Please stay in touch. I'd love to hear more about your sewing adventures! Sincerely, Peg
Great,I want to know how to make cushions with piping and zipper. And I watched this video and learn. It is very easy to understand and very clear. Thanks
+abdul khaliq Thank you for watching, Abdul. If this has inspired you to sew your own cushions, please let me know. I'd love to hear about your project. Sincerely, Peg
Hello, Harvey, Thanks for writing and posing an excellent question. Yes, normally, a cross-tack or fabric tag is needed when using zippers by the yard. When I am concerned with bulk in a pillow cover, however, I sew over the loose zipper ends during the "stitch in the ditch" process; pillow forms are often soft and easy to insert. When sewing boxed cushions, though, I sew a fabric tag over the zipper ends. That may not be apparent in my cushion videos since I made those several years ago. I retired in 2018 and have not updated my tutorials. Thanks again for writing! Peg
Thank you for making such a brilliant video. I'm about to make 6 for a client and this has given me the confidence that I will make a professional job :)

This was very helpful! I hadn't made pillows with piping for years and I couldn't remember some steps. Plus I now know how to put a zipper in my pillows as well! Thank you. Just one question: why is it that some other pillows videos seem to have extra fabric draping at each corner? As in, the extra fabric tends to "hang" and make the pillow ill fitting or not look square? I want to avoid that. Is it b/c the sewer is stretching the fabric too much?
Hello, Christine, Thank you for writing! The condition you may be referring to, where pillow corners looks sloppy, unstuffed and pointy, is called "dog-earred". It is more pronounced when the pillow form is "fat" and especially made of molded foam. There is a solution and this video is a good one. th-cam.com/video/gGPPwwvuEWo/w-d-xo.html Let me know if this is helpful. Sincerely, Peg

Hello, Marilyn, Thanks for writing! I believe that iron is a Rowenta steam tank iron. I sold it along with my slipcover business while my husband and I travel. I plan to replace it: I've had at least 5 over the years. Do your research, though. There's several fine irons out there now so, hopefully, you'll find just what you want! Happy sewing! Peg
I have made pillow covers with zippers before, but was afraid of the cording. Thanks so much for your video, which is perfect. I appreciate all your helpful tips! I tried one pillow cover yesterday, but had a lot of trouble with the cording that was recommended to me as washable. It is way too stiff. Otherwise everything worked well, thanks to you. Do you have a recommendation for a washable, but pliable, cording? I have been able to find only the cellulose, which I'm afraid will not take many washings, and the plastic, which I think would require a radius on the corners.
Hello, Lexi, thank you for writing. I'm happy to hear my little tutorial was helpful to you. When I am making piping, I use cotton welt cord (size 5/32"). If you live in the US, you can purchase this cording through Amazon.com. www.amazon.com/Upholstery-Cotton-Piping-Furniture-Crafts/dp/B07GSF5F6C/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=welt+cording&qid=1552855386&s=gateway&sr=8-10. I always use cotton welt and to be honest, I've never had any problems washing it. Let me know if this information is helpful. I'm here for you! Sincerely, Peg. www.littlebugslipcovers.com
Hello, Lyn, Thank you for writing. I believe that iron is a Rowenta model. It's been a while since I made this tutorial and that iron as long since seen it's demise (daily use of several hours really takes it's toll on irons). I have retired and have not purchased another tank iron. In the past, I had a lot of confidence in the Rowenta brand. If you are sewing every day, and you keep your iron on for several hours, it may be worth investing in a good quality tank iron. Wattage is important so you might consider this one: www.amazon.com/Rowenta-DG8624U1-Perfect-Advanced-Technology/dp/B084JBZPLG/ref=sr_1_15?crid=2PBJ2Z70ANJC4&keywords=rowena+irons+and+steamers&qid=1645902490&sprefix=Rowena%2Caps%2C61&sr=8-15. Let me know your thoughts. Sincerely, Peg
I plan to make one in a 12x20 lumbar size for my son’s nursery! So I just cut the fabric at 12x20? I’ll have to look at your comments for the other size pieces of fabric.
Hi, Jill, if 12x20 is the finished dimensions, you’ll need to add 1/2” to each of the four sides for seam allowances. The cut dimensions will then be 13x21. If you have more questions please write to me at littlebug903@yahoo.com. I’m here for you! Peg
taking the time to fix the corners! super. I stitch in the piping first row aprox 1/2” out from piping. when I sew front and back, I can really tuck my second line right close to the piping. thank you
Thank you, Peg! I love the gentleness of your voice and your positive encouragement!
Hey Peg, had to stop by and refresh my memory. Still the best video out there. 10 years strong!!!
Thanks for writing, Papa! How did your pillows come out? Peg
I really wanted to have both, piping and a zipper, and this was the best tutorial I've found on how to get the neatest look. Thank you!

I used to make piped cushions with Velcro fastenings ,but as I haven’t made any for a long time decided to use a zip fastener and it took me ages to change a habit of a lifetime.i have watched your video over and over again so am ready to start again with a zip thanks to you .

Fantastic tutorial thanks Peg. I have worn a path from my sewing machine to my computer but it has been so worth it. My first ever pillow, with piping no less!

THIS is the way to do it! I was looking for the method to reproduce the professionally made cushions I already had. But there are ssoooo many short-cut methods out there that show a less-than-professional approach and result. (I wanted a hidden zipper) Thanks Peg Baker.

Hi, Barbara, thank you for your kind comment. I love the cello, too, having played (as an amateur) for many years. I wish you the best, Peg

thank you for the tutorials - learned so much and am now ready to stitch out my first piped pillow with zipper.
Thanks for this tip! I'll definitely try this out on my next set of corners. Best wishes! Peg littlebugslipcovers.com

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I have used this video for so many cushions now!
If you would like to share details, photos or ask more questions, please write to me at littlebug903@yahoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Happy New Year! Peg littlebugslipcovers.com
Peg Baker Thank you so much for replying so quickly and for taking the time to google some information. I will follow the link this evening.
M Pic Hang in there, Mary! I have a feeling you're going to have 6 reasons to be very proud of yourself!
You are a wonderful teacher for sure.
Thank you, dear Beth!

Thanks so much - great guidelines. Don't you have to cross-tack the end of the zipper that you cut off to keep it from coming apart?

There is a solution and this video is a good one. th-cam.com/video/gGPPwwvuEWo/w-d-xo.html
Let me know if this is helpful. Sincerely, Peg

Just what I needed. This will save so much time and energy. Where did you get the clamp? Are they available at sewing stores?
Hi, Sandie, Thank you for writing! What clamp are you referring to? Thanks for clarifying: I'll answer back as soon as I hear from you. Sincerely, Peg littlebugslipcovers.com
You used a clamp to pull the corners out neatly. I think I found one on Amazon. It's a hemastat in medical terms, I think.
Yes, Sandie, you are correct! Thanks so much!
Great tutorial, very professional. May I ask what brand of steam iron are you using? It does a nice job
@@PegBakerSlipcovers Thanks so much!
Your tutoring style is fabulous. Not sure if asked this question before but what is that incredible iron you are using?
Peg
taking the time to fix the corners! super. I stitch in the piping first row aprox 1/2” out from piping. when I sew front and back, I can really tuck my second line right close to the piping. thank you
