    I would buy an album of just David Grier practicing in his living room. He’s really great.

    David Grier took Norman Blake's style and shot it full of steroids. Such a pleasure to listen to how a guitar can accompany itself under such skilled hands. Beautiful!

    Superb, love the hybrid picking using the fingers while holding the pick and he's so fluent with it.
    This is about as good as acoustic guitar gets.

      He is so economical with his right hand, the hybrid picking can’t even really be seen (well, maybe once or twice). Based on the the notes heard and the sound, he must be doing it. If it were only flat picked, I was going to try to learn this. But to transcribe this for hybrid picking, that is over my head.

      @@budg.6094 yeah it's definitely there, he just does it so smoothly you don't notice it, an absolute master.

    Hey David. Just rummaging through some bluegrass. Seems every darn time I search the Grateful Dead, billy strings pops up. I can’t help thinking, sure, he’s darn good. But as fast and vocally blessed, he just doesn’t think outside the box. Clarence did. And YOU carried on that tradition. The unexpected nuances you bring to even the most traditional songs. That why I never tire of repeated listenings to your stuff. Best wishes and All Good Things. If you’re ever in the Philadelphia/Baltimore area, for any reason, let me know. U can reach me by tapping my profile link to my YT channel. Be safe, Michael Kbeetoys.

      Though the above comment was intended as respectful, if I am David G., I stop reading it as soon as I read the name of another guitar player (who, though a fine player, is not in the same league as Grier)

    @kerrykrishna I believe that IS a Thompson. You know, I played my first one last year and I was really impressed by the tone and playability.

    I think its his 1998 Darren Webb dreadnought guitar

  • @markbury9916
    @markbury9916 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The guitar is made by Bruce Sexauer; it's not a Thompson.

    • @jean-michelpascal9622
      @jean-michelpascal9622 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Not the head of a Bruce Sexauer.
      It's a 1998 Darren Webb dreadnought with an enlarged soundhole. “Darren works at the Santa Cruz Guitar Company, and he built this guitar for himself,” Grier says. “I played it and liked it and he let me borrow it; and then he sold it to me.” ( the reference is no longer readable on the internet but it was an interview given to acoustic review)
