I think you may need to contact the husband to gain consent prior to releasing the medication list?

Bonus Scenario Sample Answer - What action would you take?
    1. Review the prescription: If it has indeed expired it is illegal to dispense. You also cannot give out an emergency supply (or an "owing") of S8 medications.
    2. Explain the situation to the patient: Communicate to the patient that the prescription has expired and that it would be illegal for you to give them any S8 medications without a valid prescription.
    3. Investigate the situation: Inquire about the patient's medical condition and the urgency of the medication. Is it still appropriate for the patient to be on this medication? Why are they using an expired prescription?
    4. Explore alternatives: Is there an S3, S2 or unscheduled option to assist the patient? If not, suggest that the patient contact their doctor's office to discuss their situation and explore options. If it's urgent, advise the patient to see an after hours/locum doctor or offer to call the doctor for a "phone order prescription." Note: if a phone order is done the doctor must fax a prescription within 24hrs and provide the original usually within 7 days. (Refer to pharmacy guidelines)
    5. Offer guidance: Advise the patient on the importance of adhering to prescription regulations and not using expired prescriptions
    6. Document: Keep a record of the interaction, including the patient's request, your response, and any guidance given.
*Note: there are multiple correct answers for this scenario. The above response is only one answer.

Pharmacist should not dispense Expired Medication. Pharmacist should contact to relevant Prescriber to confirm.
