      Yep my wife asked me what happened I said liver shot you could always see when they get hit in the liver and takes a few seconds and then they go down. It’s painful I’ve had it done and nowhere near as hard as tank punches

      I crashed longboarding one time and landed on a decent sized rock right on my liver. It was 2x more painful than a hit in the nuts, its a miracle my ribs didn't break.

      Davis kept lying that he would break his jaw, but he knew he was going to take him down with a liver shot. Ryan himself has used a liver shot successfully before. He was hoodwinked and distracted.

    I boxed as an amateur for 12 years and this happened to me a few times in the Gym the inability to move or even think clearly for an nearly a full minute was impossible to overcome.

    I was explaining this to one of my coworkers who was criticizing Garcia for quitting. I asked him if he ever took a liver shot before and of course he said no. The thing with that shot is it doesn't have to be a hard shot, it's all about the placement of that Punch.

    Take it from a guy who has had countless body shots, you can’t control those contractions. You can’t breath or stay upright. Although, he was up on his feet, you still feel hollow. The effects will humble you! Body shots are the easiest to land and hardest to defend. It really comes down to the puncher.

    For those of you who don't know, the most famous liver-shot knockout was done by Bernard Hopkins on (his now business partner) Oscar De La Hoya, for the undisputed Middleweight championship of the world. Classic.

      Honestly you don’t see this a lot. What you had was a left handed power puncher that is used to hitting up connecting cleanly in the liver while his opponent was inhaling. Literally the worst case scenario. Ryan is lucky he wasn’t severely injured.

    I've experienced a liver laceration and it was no joke. The doctor shut me down for the rest of my junior year in football because of it. Said if I took a similar hit to that liver it could cause internal bleeding and I could die from it. My QB pitched the ball so high and it left my midsection wide open. I thought I was gonna die lol fr

      Same exact thing happened to me, except no lacerations. I had no idea what was happening to my body. On top of the pain, it’s like you can feel your blood if that makes sense, breathing felt restricted, and u feel sooooooooo heavy.

    as a boxer, and the only time i've been stopped was because of a body shot especially getting hit right after you throw a punch. It's amazing how your body has like a 2-3 second delayed reaction and then complete shutdown. The body is amazing and so is the sweet science 🥊🥊

    People who haven’t been hit by one of those hits won’t fully understand how crazy it is haha. When doc says you have no control he is totally right. Your body just shuts down on you. I did mma and I got kicked in the liver and holy crap, it sucked sooooo bad. Liver shot is the best shot in the sport

    Well done. I learned quite a bit. The delayed reaction is fascinating. I've seen it before in boxing with liver punches. Seems incredibly painful. The facial expressions are always the same. Yet it also seems difficult to get that paralyzing shot just right. But when fighters hit that sweet spot it is almost always game over.

    We know as of a few days ago from the ESPN's Punch Meter that at 5'5 135 lbs, Tank's left hand hits harder in pounds per square inch than 6'7 215lbs former heavy weight champion, Deontay Wilder's left hand and even more so 6'5 250lbs Dominic Brazeale's right hand. Just let that sink in for bit and you'll realize Ryan's body reacted like he got hit by a sledgehammer.

    I remembered that shot from my third amateur fight. I didn't drop but couldn't do anything but get in the corner and bring my hands up and protect myself. And that late reaction is real. I was fine for like 5 seconds and then it hit me. All my energy went out. Almost 30 years later I finally got the right scientific explanation, lol. Thank you for that doctor! It was a good fight by the way. Hope to see them both in the near future.

    Liver shots are remarkable. It’s crazy how Arturo Gatti got up from a liver shot and continue to fight in a bout years ago. Definitely only the toughest truest warriors can get up from a liver shot.

      He grazed him with the punch. It didn't hit dead on and didn't transfer all of the power from the punch as it slipped off. It didn't look like a hard hit. Definitely could have hit him way harder.

    Thank you, never seen this analysis by a doctor soon after a big boxing fight.
    So the punch hit the ribcage, and impacted the liver severely. A reminder of Bernard Hopkins ko of Oscar De La Hoya.

      He could have gotten up just before the 10 count. He chose not to, which was smart. He was severely hurt and realized Tank was the better boxer. Had he gotten up it would’ve been an even more devastating KO coming. He made a health and career decision.

      It's still qutting regardless of what caused him to back down. A lot of people have fought even after getting a liver shot. So yes he did quit. That's what happens when you are hit in a vital place you quit and that is what happened.

      @@draco2xx The fact that Ryan was able to get up and walk right after the 10 count tells me the reason he didn’t get up was because he knew he was compromised and didn’t wanna take any follow up punishment, meaning that lack of toughness narrative is probably more true than not.
      Great 7 rounds of action though, Ryan really struggled to use his right hand effectively, and just when he started to let it go he left his body open for the finish.

    I didn’t understand why the commentators didn’t understand the effect of a liver shot. It was a classic liver shot and no way you are standing up after that. The delayed reaction is what you expect from a liver shot. Kudos to the Tank.

      They just didn't see the actual punch. On the live tv broadcast you couldn't really see the actual punch because the angle at the time obscured it.
      That's also why judges sit on different sides of the ring. What you might miss from one angle you can see from another.

    Liver shot hurt much more, when you tries to throw shot as well. Your body absorb so much more pain when you focus on generate power in offense. So even though this shot doesn't seems too much, I sure understand how Garcia felt that pain.
