Nice, but you really need rhe pitch shift in a feedback loop to let it build up and get a true shimmer effect. I'm not sure you can do that in Reaper, that's why I use modular (Cardinal or VCV) 😉
Funny, this is the second time someone's mentioned that. I didn't do this to make a perfect textbook shimmer - but to just show that it's entirely possible to approximate the effect with any pitch shifter and any reverb (that's up to you), and moreover, that it's fun to try things in different ways and explore the worlds that can be created in doing so. As for 'proper' = there's really nothing improper about trying any way, and all shimmer reverbs that I've tried sound different to me, and respond differently. This way you can decide which components you use, instead of the ones someone else chose to implement in their plugin. (Sometimes the pitch shifter really changes everything). Anyway, regardless, it's all good whatever - take all of my content with a pinch of salt!
@@VirtualModular don't worry - I too am that way inclined... however, after trying/buying/installing all the available free and paid options, it's really unnecessary to think "oh it's only possible if you do it one way", or think "it's called a 'shimmer' so that's what I HAVE to use"..... etc. They all have interestingly different characters, pros and cons, and like, really, no one uses shimmer reverbs, or reverbs, as the main element in a mix or it sounds bad, or unfriendly in a mix, over the top etc.. So, if you just want a quick shimmer reverb, but don't have one of the many plugins called 'shimmer...' or you want to use your favourite individual reverbs, or pitch shifters, instead... doing it this way is more or less going to yield a good enough result, perhaps more unique too. YMMV of course!
@@DomMcsweeney-DoomPlugs absolutely, always worth experimenting. I have the Valhalla one which is cool but I like to make my own too. Plugins in a feedback loop are always good, I think a pitch shifter into Supermassive sounds even better than Valhalla's own shimmer. I use standalone VCV with the host FX module, not sure how else you can route feedback into plugins. Bitwig maybe.
