Love how you got the background on the truck. Love how you went through it and got her purrring again. She shouldn’t have been sitting so long. And her name is big burffa. That’s what Skimma. Mr brooks called her. You got a diamond 💎. I’m still watching you

Wayne, I cut my teeth driving back in the late 70's and early 80's and got to drive some of the high HP west coast trucks back in the day! I took a job as a lease operator with Riley Whittle, out of Phoenix, and when they were feeling me out to see if I could drive, one of the guys from the shop ask if I could drive a 14 speed Spicer? I had never drove one, but knew I could, with some practice! So I calmly said no problem, and they showed me a O/O spec'd 1976 Freightliner Cab over, 96" cab, NTC 350 Cummins, 14 speed Spicer, 4.11 rears! Very nice, almost new truck, with a matching 42'6" Great Dane refer, stainless front and rear doors, and all Aluminum rims! The Cummins was turned way up, had a big Cat turbo, and was a a for sure large car, for back in the day! As we talked and went over all the stuff that had been done to this truck they told me that the truck and trailer had mostly sat since it was leased on, because no one could drive it! After the test drive, they told me that this was my truck, and to treat it like my own! I got paid a % of what the truck made, and it made me and them a lot of money!
Your 110" cab Pete is a stepper and a definite triple digit truck with 355 rears and the 13 OD! You never know, I may have run with that truck back in the day, haulin ass from the west coast to the Mid west!
Oklahoma City Peterbilt were one of the go to dealers for ordering large cars back in the day, along with Kansas City Peterbilt!

I think I mentioned this before but during the pipeline build in Alaska, the trucking companies ordered GMC V12 because they were the easiest to get at the time in large quantity. Early power assist used air pressure to run the cylinder on the tie rod. The construction company mentioned below had a 69 & 70 narrow nosed KWs with 8 yard Smith mixers set up with the air cylinders. They got changed to hydraulic in the 1980 range. They had 220 Cummins Ford engines bumped to 235 or 250 HP; one with a turbo & one with a belt driven supercharger. Both had 5/4 trans set ups with Timken rears (not sure what rating or ratios). They would do really well for the low horsepower engines, getting up to around 70 MPH on fairly level ground. North central Montana sits at around 3500 feet on the level, so the turbo did a bit better than the super. I don't remember what year they were purchased, but I was tapped to help hammer out the barrels every fall, as well as run the powder bag hand truck while loading from the time I was 12 years old on. I also got to work on the equipment over the years & actually learned to drive in an old 1959 IHC twin screw tandem gravel truck with a 549cid gas engine & 5/4trans combo & no synchros. It was a dream to start driving pickups with synchro transmissions. I also remember the first time I drove a truck with an air shift trans.

I love looking at the build sheets for vehicles and equipment , sometimes it looks like a whole different language unless you kinda know what you’re looking at. I built sprayers and the big tire floater trucks for 6 1/2 years and every one has a build sheet with all the different options that people had ordered them with and that’s how we assembled them. Very cool to see 👍

I told you that you are a genius. Other than the limited horsepower was the limited torque. If I remember correctly torque was between 700 and 1200 lbs ft. The biggest reason for the aluminum frame and housings was weight. Trailers were very heavy. Air ride was rare to non existent at that time. Really cool video Wayne. I'm geeking out. 😆

Beautiful truck Wayne , the 12V71 was the Big Dog for sure at the time along with the 1693s or " Clatter- pillers" as their nicknamed for the unique start up sounds , although not unusual in the early production models on the 110" sleepers , and I'm sure I'm not 100 percent correct , it's rare to see the breather pipe down through the cab , common yes for the single bunks but later on I think most 110s had the pipe mounted beside the passenger side exhaust , again I'm probably exactly correct on that , there's only one Peterbilt advertisement from OVERDRIVE MAGAZINE where I saw dual mounted A/C condensers , it's the early 70s add of the head on shot at night and looks like it's raining , COE is light green and white , 👍👍👍👍.

Man I love that you did this. I so enjoy the history of the truck as much as the truck its self. How it was built and all the specs about it. Exciting to see how they did the trucks then and even today with special trucks. Also, you only looking out for specialized trucks makes your channel even better. There are lots of random everyday trucks out there but to find what you have is something special for sure. Rare engine combinations is awesome among the other rare components. See if you can find a 4 axle cabover with a V12 in it one day or a CAT 3408. I'm sure that is a tough find. The 359 V8 CAT is going to give old Pete the cabover a run for its money. I've seen some CF Freightliners online, which had all kinds of wild equipment for dealing with mountains and winter. Some of them old Freightliners came with aluminum frames too. '73 must've been about the end of the air intake running through the cab - and I've never noticed that setup with an extended sleeper. Mossybroke is the Phantom 1309...

Almost 600 trucks there, showing and/or pulling. Pretty big event, all day. A few from N.Y. Check into it, you might want to attend in the future.

We have many manuals of old trucks in our library at dealership. I've thumb through them interesting reading. At old location since 1973 but we just moved to new shop in June. Since we moved we didn't take them with us because we don't work on that stuff anymore. We have co-worker who has 73 cabover, 76 patriot 359 and patriot cabover. He has all of old manuals for petebilt, engines, transmission, rears, steering, microfiche cards and so on. We had 2 sets of microfiche so we still have them and he has the other set. Microfiche In ECAT now for most part

Hi from uk Wayne 👋👍 yes I think also the word rare has a certain element of unique about it too as these trucks especially the cabover is unique yo to the original owner. And i am certainly impressed of how together the truck still I'd off the paper work you have also for S&G you'll find the cover on the front of the manual 🤣 hope someone can help get the few odds and ends to bring the cabover back to spec 👍can't wait till you get the workshop done and maybe think uou should keep all decorative posters or signs you get for that once done and also have a wall for old licence plates you come across think would really give you a buzz everytime you enter for work to be carried in future I call it wall motivation so on bad days or hard days your still inspired to keep moving forward 👌 thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍 👋

The construction company that my dad worked for bought a 1974 KW 900 that was spec'ed by a farm family. They had 3 or 4 identical trucks with aluminum frames, 350 Cummins, 6spd main, 4spd OD aux, rear 3.73 geared, Spicer DD/RD52 drives, 14,000 steer. He had a brother who worked for Cummins for years build a hot rod Big Cam II 400 for it that was said to put out nearly 500 horsepower. It was a pretty cool truck that would drag a 48' cement powder tanker & 28' pup up the Rocky Mountain pass at 50 pretty easy. I don't know what size tires were originally used (it was changed to 11.00 x 24.5 when the guy put it as he wanted it) or who bought it when the company was dismantled & sold after he died in the late 90s..42

Today, class 8 COE's are no longer made. Back in the 70's and well into the 80's, they were the most common configuration seen on the interstates in the east due to length restrictions.

@@Ol2Stroker exactly! I'm not sure how common things like the chrome steering column and chrome shifter were... But I've got a few oddities...but nothing cool like a chrome exhaust or fluorescent lights in the bunk!

@@Ol2Stroker I don't think there's much else that was chrome or polished, but it did get weird options - 48" 5th wheel slider, rears were spec'd for pulling heavy..that sorta thing. I will admit I've not sat down and gone thru the build sheet line by line so there is probably more in there that'll have me scratching my head going... Wtf! I've got one of the Pete seats with the storage box in near perfect shape if you need one... It's blue though... LoL

@@Ol2Stroker Boston is shutting down the Orange Line of their subway system. They’ve contracted with bus companies from all over the USA to move subway passengers on charter buses. I’m here trying to provide supervision/support to our company drivers that are here. It’s an absolute cluster downtown. Gonna be that way until September 19th.
