To me that gives the universe more depth. I hate the Naruto/Bleach type of tropes when all the main characters just so get absurdly powerful to the point that the supporting characters are minimal backdrops. Everybody has development and depth in this show and it's so enjoyable and immersive
@musix3197 that's okay, he doesn't need to be. For me personally, I care more about a good overall narrative than the writers milking a main character. And even if he isn't getting his shine now, you can argue that he was the main component for at least 70% of the series. He was a huge factor from the beginning up to the Shibuya arc, he had decent feats in the culling games and a badass moment with him and Maki vs. Sukuna. He's done enough already, he can sit out some chapters while the top guns are having their moments. Just because he's nobody's favorite doesn't mean he's a bad character. I'm perfectly okay with it

The point of a main character isn't necessarily to be liked although that typically is the by-product since the audience tends to relate to them. As I explained already, Yuji was the driving force the majority of the series and most likely will be the driving force towards the end. I honestly don't see the problem. JJK has a lot of world building and character building so yes, other characters get the spotlight on them too. Doesn't mean it takes anything away from Yuji

Honestly, akutami is an interesting author. Because the protagonist trope been played for literal centuries and its great that he creates stories like this that the protagonist actually takes a backseat sometimes and its not just all about him and insane plot armors.
It's funny how I heard a lot that the mangaka wasn't quite satisfied a while back with his series, and I struggle to understand why: Chainsaw Man's author loves his and lots of other mangaka but this guy needed time and decisions for the series to grow in his eyes... I guess it's true that those who achieve the best things ever are never satisfied with these achievements...
I mean, Yuta's character arc was already over by the beginning of JJK, so i don't think having him come back as the MC would've been effective, keeping Itadori as the current storyline's mc was the best option in my opinion. And one aspect of JJK i absolutely enjoy is that most of the side characters are basically just as fleshed out as the MC is, if not more "understanbly so, most of their character arcs are over while Yuji's still ongoing.", which makes jjk's cast in its entirety really lively and relevant, not as if they were just extras that are there just to be pedestals for the protagonist to stand and get all the attention.
I like the stark contrast from him and others in fighting. Hes just simple punchman, got some intuition for sure and amazing teachers. I fuckin KNOW that black flash training was a bit crazy and feels like it takes more tho. I remember Naruto creating like 5k clones to learn and develop rasenshuriken. Meanwhile Yuji jus ya know, learns black flash for his bro. Bro power

Sucks that probably only a quarter of the story actually resolves around him, though when it does they're usually the best chapters by far unless it's a rare satoru battle chapter. But even then those are usually less well written than yuuji's("I refuse" moment, todo's very existence when he's around yuuji, choso vs yuuji, the "i'm you" moment and the whole mahito fight in general, the "i'm a cog" speech, the confession during tokyo colony, the sukuna confrontation, etc...)

It was actually much simpler than that. The author wanted to fuck with the fanbase and kill off the supposed main who they’re already emotionally invested in by that time. This kinda gets me quite concerned if I’m being honest because this means that the author isn’t in charge of what’s actually getting put out, because this would’ve been actually really cool
I still preferred Yujii as the Main Protagonist than Yuta or Gojo, yes both of the latter are strong, but we can how much growth Yujii has. He may have strong physical abilities but he was "weak" when it comes to power. And his f* up backstory screams main protag. I only see Gojo and Yuta as the op side characters that stealed the spotlight of the MC.

Jojo is the only anime I've seen that actually pulls of changing mcs, any other anime and it just doesn't feel the same anymore

Yuuji is just a blatantly better character than yuta so im happy he's still the protagonist. Sucks that probably only a quarter of the story actually resolves around him, though when it does they're usually the best chapters by far unless it's a rare satoru battle chapter. But even then those are usually less well written than yuuji's("I refuse" moment, todo's very existence when he's around yuuji, choso vs yuuji, the "i'm you" moment and the whole mahito fight in general, the "i'm a cog" speech, the confession during tokyo colony, the sukuna confrontation, etc...)
No yuta is way more better mc than yuji

- his inner conflict resolved
- a deep understanding of the jujutsu world
- An unrivaled power that has very little room to grow
- A backstory with no mistery to uncover

Editors are exactly there for that reason. To evaluate writing choices of the author and to give ideas or even change certain aspects of the story.
And they are right, Yuji is an infinitely better written character than Yuta. Gege hating him and just not letting him grow in power is the biggest grip I have against JJK.

It was actually much simpler than that. The author wanted to fuck with the fanbase and kill off the supposed main who they’re already emotionally invested in by that time. However, they did a survey on shonen jump and realized there would be a huge backlash if they did it, so abracadabra yuji lives.
Honestly it would have been incredible either way. I kind of have a kink for stories that kill off the MC because its such a twist and you are actually emotionally invested in them because you think they cant die unlike a side character!

I still preferred Yujii as the Main Protagonist than Yuta or Gojo, yes both of the latter are strong, but we can how much growth Yujii has. He may have strong physical abilities but he was "weak" when it comes to power. And his f* up backstory screams main protag. I only see Gojo and Yuta as the op side characters that stealed the spotlight of the MC.
