i had 42k and it was triggered. I don't know what other players are doing but getting 40k is pretty darn easy in my opinion. If you loot every enemy and sell their stuff you will have more than enough money for everything this game has to offer.
@JsE_Jamez yeah, from what I can tell, the game jokingly suggests you're either dismantling shells for black pearls or you're selling cow hide, when actually as far as I'm aware, farming the hanse base at mont crane seems to be the most popular method for late-game money farming. (Which probably counts as cheating, even though the grandmaster sets are very expensive.)

That's exactly what I did. I got up to 80k then I used 30 on the runewright guy

As far as I know, it starts when you earn 35k
