Marta Popovici's CHRYSALIS
Marta Popovici is a jazz influenced singer-songwriter using strong imagery to create an emotional journey to a cathartic release. Born and raised in Romania, currently based in Rotterdam, she challenges the borders of musical genres, freely flowing between jazz, art-pop, folk, fusion and spoken word.
Her newest project, CHRYSALIS, is a concept album inspired by the image of the butterfly chrysalis as a source of ambivalence. It is the safe, warm space and also the danger that threatens to constrict. It is isolation, but also the opportunity for introspection. It brings fear of the unknown, but also excitement for what is to come. It is a transitional state, a space of transformation.
With this new project, Marta shares a personal take on ambivalence as a source of growth for society, using music to build resilience and find peace at the intersection of opposing forces.
