I'd also like to add a few points here: 1) the 20 deg angle used here can be different for other designs. use the formula: 360/N*1deg 2) if the you selected the formula you want to apply but it is not updating on the sketch then write the parameter name in the formula bar above instead of selecting them. 3) use Rbc=Rp-m if the formula for base circle Rbc=0.94*Rp gives you a smaller value then the dedendum circle
Thank you so much for creating this video showing us how to create spur gears. I like the step by step instructions and also the formulas. I am going to keep coming to your channel to learn more. I would like to see more Kinematic functions. If you could please create more assembly models with different kinds of kinematic funictions. Thank so much.
Thanks Abhishek, It's very comprehensive and useful tutorial for beginner like me. keep uploading similar CATIA V5 tutorials on youtube. I have subscribed your channel already. Cheer..
Your tutorial is awesome . Thanks for uploading such videos. Keep up the good work. I think the formula should be [ Pressure angle /2 - 360/2N ] intead of [ 360/4N ]as per your method.
Thank you very much.Mr Agrawal ...That was very helpful and clear :)It ll be great if you can make a video on a 2 spur gear (with different number of teeth) assembly and their meshing animation on catia v5.
Hi Abhishek! 1) While set the New Parameter type for N you just taken from the option down list 'Real' Why? is there some answer means just share. 2) after select & try to do the circular pattern of the first half of the gear tooth we just facing the error selection & i just clicked that ok button often then only i get my circular pattern. that error is why? 3) finally when you drawn the shaft circle is not clear with your selection. i don't get that. Your effort is too good keep do this. Thank you for the class.
+suresh Kumar For N it is selected as real because N is the no of teeth in the gear and doesnt have any unit like mm, deg etc. Real is chosen for constant values without units. as for the other two questions, i have not tried it out yet.
Since in shigley pressure angle is related to two gears How can we explain Pressure angle for one gear Or how to define pressure angle for single gear in its geometry
Thanks for the tutorial but can you help me out. What do i have to change to change the diameter of the whole gear. I am looking to cut my gears out on a laser cutting machine that cuts mdf wood. The laser cutter needs a dxf file and so I will export what I create as an mdf file. However I need to create a 6-1 gear ratio and too do this i cant just modify the number of teeth as the teeth will be different sizes and so I need the same teeth size and shape but different number of teeth and smaller diameter of teh whole cog.
Hey Abhishek. Thank you very much for the tutorial. I was trying it on my own but while defining formulas I encountered a problem. It says units are not homogeneous. And the formula is not being applied. Do you know the reason of it.?
Whenever i try to draw the fillet the entire diagram is shifting with respect to the vertical axis which we are using to mirror the half tooth profile. I had watched almost all videos in youtube but you people doesnt come across a problem like that . Please help.
is the gear teeth shape EXACT or APPROXIMATE? I had to create 30 different points for the teeth curve to make it involute, is this necessary or I can go by ur video?
You did the right thing then. This video (and many others) are very misleading on designing gears, especially the face of the tooth. You cannot use a simple arc to make the face of a tooth. The step at 6:16 is wrong. In the picture at 5:10 even states: "Inv1" & "Inv2", meaning INVOLUTES. It would make a terrible gear that would either bind or have too much play. It would also NOT have a constant 20 degree pressure angle.
can i know why can't i make the coincidence like in your video at 9:07 ? because i follow all your same exact steps but i got stuck in making the coincidence. hope u can help
sir , my software showing syntax error when i am typing the formula. ( it's like units are not homogenous we advise u to precise constant .............) can u pls help me solve this
+dodle m is the module. the module basically determines the geometry of your teeth. you can calculate it by dividing the pitch circle by the number of teeth. --> m = d/z but if you were to determine your module without knowing your d or z, you can use different formulas to get an estimated module. example: you the attacking Torsion T (or Mt) you need to calcualte the Diameter of the shaft by using this: dsh= 3,4*(T*1,17/sigmabw)^(1/3) sigmabw is the bending strength (N/mm²). you Need to convert T into Nmm.then you calculate your estimated module by using this formula:mest = (1,8*dsh*cos(beta))/(z1-2,5)for a normal gear Wheel with straight teeth beta=0°; z1 should not be smaller than 17. after you get you mest you will round it to the next 0,5 step. 2,33 ->2,5 and 2,64 -> 3,0. Always rounding to the higher value. if you Need to know more, you should buy a book for Engineering. i got this formulas out of "Roloff Matek Formelsammlung" but unless you know german, this wont help you. Hope it helps you out
thanks for this video i have a problem and i don't know what is this first i do as u do creating parameters and this is OK then i go to sketcher and sketches 2 circles and make a radius dimension and choose edit formula as u do and select the parameters but when i selected anyone its disappear after click it get value but not linked with the formula the formula symbol doesn't appear i don't know what problem if there is a customize setting for parameters please help me i use CATIA V5R20 thanks :)
It's a standard. You get 20 degree or 14.5 degree involute gears in the market. These are pressure angles commonly followed as standard, so you can choose either.
I'd also like to add a few points here:
1) the 20 deg angle used here can be different for other designs. use the formula: 360/N*1deg
2) if the you selected the formula you want to apply but it is not updating on the sketch then write the parameter name in the formula bar above instead of selecting them.
3) use Rbc=Rp-m if the formula for base circle Rbc=0.94*Rp gives you a smaller value then the dedendum circle
This is the cleanest tutorial I have come across.
Thank you. 10/10 will try it out.
I was struggling to create a gear but after watching this video i may not find that much difficulties... thanks for ur tutorial
I am studying mechanical engineering and I am very grateful for your tutorial, thanks a lot - i need this gear for an electical drive
Thank you for your tutorial! One of the few good ones on CATIA construction problems!
next lecture comming soon sir
very nice this tutorial sir👍👍
Excellent tutorial. Easy to follow and straightforward. Thank you very much.
Thanks a ton! was having trouble designing this for the last 2 days. You explained it very nicely and easy to understand. thanks again!!!
Thanku very much i got so confused by seeing other vedios you made correct use of catia .. thanku very much sir

I would like to see more Kinematic functions. If you could please create more assembly models with different kinds of kinematic funictions. Thank so much.
thanks. using formulas is really convenient. I needed to draw a few gears with formulas I just need to change the values and I am done.
thank u sir, when was struggling its hard but now is easy...
I'll make it today itself and will give you a link here. Thanks!!
I can't add formula .wht should I do
?

Thank you Abhishek
This video helped a lot for my project
Keep it up
Superb
Clearly explained
Abhishek,
Could you please give us a tutorial on modelling of rack based on the teeth of this gear (or any pinion gear)?
thank you for your tutorial
was easy to follow up and clearly understood
Brilliant videos...I learnt a lot from this video.. thanks you bro..

Sir can u plz justify how u took pressure angle 20deg between two construction line
very helpful video sir
is this the same for rack and pinion steering gear design?
Good tutorial Abhishek, Thank you and keep it up :)
it is useful videos..can u show us how to internal spur gear
Hi Abhishek!
1) While set the New Parameter type for N you just taken from the option down list 'Real' Why? is there some answer means just share. 2) after select & try to do the circular pattern of the first half of the gear tooth we just facing the error selection & i just clicked that ok button often then only i get my circular pattern. that error is why?

Could you please make a video on design of gear cutting tool ( hob ) in catia
THANK YOU SO MUCH
YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect Video.Thank You.
Although I Wonder if profile is exactly involute
This is no involute.
Since in shigley pressure angle is related to two gears
How can we explain Pressure angle for one gear
Or how to define pressure angle for single gear in its geometry
Great tutorial Abhishek.
Thank you for the help. keep it up...............:)
Anurag Mishra Thank you for watching my video. Please subscribe to get latest videos and share among your friends.
very good video! Could this same method be used to make a GT2 timing pulley and if so how could i get the formulas? thanks!!
Very helpful tutorial!!! thank you so much
Thank you for helping me!! you made my day
plz create a video on design of rack and pinion
Shouldn't the gear tooth profile be involute (or cycloid) instead of circular arc?
great Video, exactly what i needed. thanks!
can you please give a tutorial to draw the involute profile of gear by using equations instead of circles? thnks in advnce
thank you so much, great work
sir thank you very much sir this particular video help me
thank you sir, but can you please make same tutorial for helical gear please i really nned it right now its mt project actually
Best explanation!!!.thanks
can you make a video for internal gear
@
Abhishek Agrawal
Do you have similar video for creating internal Spur Gear?
thank you spur gear and what about helical gear
very useful video thankyou so much
Thanks for the tutorial but can you help me out. What do i have to change to change the diameter of the whole gear. I am looking to cut my gears out on a laser cutting machine that cuts mdf wood. Yeah please! I need it for College Pracs.
OHH now iam ready to design gears also
CATIA crashes when I attempt a 342.9 mm pitch diameter and 972 teeth. Any suggestions?
I have created formula according to video.
But when i apply circle dimension using edit formula,it is not getting updated.
Pls give some solution
hello,
Can you please tell me, why and how did you take fillet radius as 0.39*m
Can anyone suggest any links on how to create internal gear?
Hey Abhishek. Thank you very much for the tutorial. I was trying it on my own but while defining formulas I encountered a problem. It says units are not homogeneous. And the formula is not being applied. Do you know the reason of it.?
Me too, any help??
Yes . Same problem
He applied value .. they take it as decimal. But we applied value it take as normal
Whenever i try to draw the fillet the entire diagram is shifting with respect to the vertical axis which we are using to mirror the half tooth profile. I had watched almost all videos in youtube but you people doesnt come across a problem like that . Please help.
Can someone explain to me why the clearance circle is 0.94*Rp, I don’t know where the 0.94 came from, isn’t it Rp*CosPA??? Thanks
lovely bro...very good video
is the gear teeth shape EXACT or APPROXIMATE?
I had to create 30 different points for the teeth curve to make it involute, is this necessary or I can go by ur video?

Why is it when I do the Edit Formula... the dimension of the radius doesn't change. Remains the same and not the value that I need?
Is it usefull for production engineering
Hey, it worked, but I have a question.
Can these formulae be used for stub teeth gear as well?
how to make rack of 5 inch length and no.of teeth =27 and module of pinion =1.5mm ?
how to create gear joint for two unequal spur gear
Nice Tutorial...u would have drawn Key way it would be complete spur gear tutorial!!
in my Catia, the applied formulae values are not updating
drawed side profile is evolvent or not?
How I find Pad command option in CATIA.
Thank you!! really helpful videos!!! :))
can i know why can't i make the coincidence like in your video at 9:07 ? because i follow all your same exact steps but i got stuck in making the coincidence. hope u can help
Can you please help me to making of clutch design in cattia
Hi.at 9:40 what exactly did you do? I think selecting those lines and curves had no reason when you used circular pattern
what is the max bore you can achieve?
hey, nice work, though I had some doubts,
in the formulae for Rb, Rd, etc. did you assume those values to put in formula or are they standard values?
Sir can please explain second gear by changing N and m . Because I trying by u r video second gear is not fitted to the first gear
I will never as the profile of the teeth is not involute, it is circular.
You rock, bro. Thanks!
is that formules u used are standered for all spur gears ?
how to write square and square root in parametric
sir , my software showing syntax error when i am typing the formula. ( it's like units are not homogenous we advise u to precise constant .............) can u pls help me solve this
Yes . Same problem
After complete drawing there is a black border of the each corner, but I don't need this...
In the exemple where you changed the # of teeth, you also changed the m value. What is the m value for? and where do we find that value.
Thanks
+dodle m is the module. the module basically determines the geometry of your teeth. you can calculate it by dividing the pitch circle by the number of teeth. --> m = d/z

+als ob thanks for the explanation
you are welcome
but how to make an involute profile and not a circular one?
Why is it that you set an angle of 20 degrees between the two construction lines?
20 deg full depth involute gear and 20 deg is the pressure angle
abhishek how to import catia design into pdf
The tooth profile is not a CIRCLE!
I need to draw a real gear with involute profile. Does anyone know how can I do it?
you mean like polynomial line? maybe i can help you
how do you take that involute roll angle as 20 degrees?
yeah even i want to know
thats already the standard
perfect awsome thanks alot
I couldn't mirror the half teeth. Please help me
why length is taken as 10mm as pad parameter
Great work Thank you
thanks for this video
i have a problem and i don't know what is this
first i do as u do creating parameters and this is OK
then
i go to sketcher and sketches 2 circles and make a radius dimension and choose edit formula as u do and select the parameters but when i selected anyone its disappear after click it get value but not linked with the formula
the formula symbol doesn't appear i don't know what problem
if there is a customize setting for parameters please help me
i use CATIA V5R20
thanks :)
I have the same problem dude.
Double click the parameter first then click ok.
Did you fix your problem? I have encountered the same problem and struggling to solve it.
how u have got the relationship Rb=0.94Rp ? please tell ,its urgent
0.94 is cos 20 . The actual formula is Rb = cos( pressure angle)* Rp
What is the module value? m?
Awesome bro
what is the module formula how did u get 3.5
module formula is radius of pitch circle/ no. of teeth. thought it is generally given
I need a tutorial for bevel gear, can you help??
Bevel gear with straight teeth Tutorial:
th-cam.com/video/zFcmP4roaf8/w-d-xo.html
I hope this would help.. Thanks!!
thanks lot of.it's great.
hey bro which college are you from ????
there is a error while circular patten select a part design element
have the same error and no idea why...will anybody help please
"Select part" or something like that? Just click ok, and you'll get it. I had the same error. Clicked ok, amd moved on.
Bro please draw assembly design
what is the logic behind 20degree
It's a standard. You get 20 degree or 14.5 degree involute gears in the market. These are pressure angles commonly followed as standard, so you can choose either.
