Winter Field Day 2025 a bust for me! At least I activated POTA Parks on the Air park US-1174 WFD

- Hey, what's happening TH-cam?
I went out to do a Parks on the Air POTA / Winter Field Day WFD and didn't have much luck. I didn't put a whole lot of effort in this year, however. I picked an RF noisy location which I'm sure didn't help. You can hear how bad the noise is in the video.

It was great to work you on winter field day!
It was actively snowing here in Colorado, we had a ice fishing tent and buddy heater. 🥶
We saw quite a bit of activity on the bands, that sucks that you weren't seeing it, hopefully day two goes better if you head out.

Yes, after getting home and seeing all the post, I figured I was missing all the activity because of my noise. Thanks for the QSO! 73

I was POTA hunting last week from a hillside in Cayucos using an FT-891 and the Chelegance MC-750 vertical. I experienced the same S5 noise. your seeing in MDO. I have worked the same hillside spot with the same antenna just a couple of weeks earlier with a Xiegu G90 and I don't remember any noteworthy noise. It would be interesting to do a side by side comparison to see if it's just a case of the Yaesu being more sensitive but I doubt that's whats going on here. I believe vertical antennas are more noisy so I plan to build a Moxon and try that in the same location.
Yes, whenever I'm not being lazy, I put up my EFHW and it's always a lot easier to hear. I've even set them up side by side with and antenna switch, and when the EFHW has zero noise, sometimes the vertical has at least some. Thanks for watching and commenting. 73
