The song is from the famous French rock opera from 1979 STARMANIA. The singers girlfriend has just died (from overdose or suicide) and the song is grasping for closure. The songs composition was especially crafted for the voice range of Daniel Bolavoine who tragically died in a helicopter crash several years after the rock opera. In the 2000’s, a young French artist, Gregory Lamarchell, sang SOS in a competition which he won. A couple of years later he succumbed to cystic fibrosis. Dimash was so moved by Angel Gregory’s version, he learned the song and went to France to sing it in honor of Gregory which was well received. Dimash was still a teenager at this time and hadn’t “rounded “ out the song that he sang in the I Am Singer Chinese competition in 2017. There are so many layers to Dimash as a person and performer as well as the songs he chooses to sing. Gloria Wu’s channel has English subtitles and backstories of songs he performs based on actual events such as:

You’ve no idea how I’m any times I’ve heard reactors say “this isn’t my type of music” and then become addicted to Dimash. He sings ALL genres of music from opera to rap. I’m sure you’ll find something to your taste.

@@MatandChelsReact Believe me....he IS the greatest vocalist on earth. In order to sing like him....you'd need to combine at least 3 - 4 highly skilled vocalists with different vocal ranges. On top of that...they'll need to be highly skilled in vocal dynamics, breathing skills, commanding stage presence, top performer....not just a singer. Dimash is the RARE TOTAL PACKAGE. Throw in physical good looks, built and height.....oh my......God must be very, very generous with him.

This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight.

The competition was open in 2013 to well-known professional singers from the music industry worldwide (theoretically). In reality, only 2 or 3 non-Chinese contestants (Koreans) attended the show.
Foreign participants have been banned since 2016. (The ban was originally intended only for Koreans, but unofficially applied to all foreigners. The Chinese government wanted to ban Korean influence, even though the show was invented in Korea).
In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden until then. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned Chinese hydroglyphs: Di - achievement Ma - precious stone Shi - dream, wish.
This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to TH-cam ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won).

Welcome to Dimash's "Enless Dimensions" World. This performance is only the tip of the huge immeasurable iceberg that is the talent of this artist. This beautiful song: "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" was written more than 20 years before Dimash Qudaibergen was born, but he definitely made it his forever, when Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger composed it, they didn't have an idea, they didn't imagine who was going to be his definitive owner 'cause no one can take it away from him, the Best Singer Ever. I also enjoy his other versions of this song that are always performed in a unique and masterful way, one of my favorites is this one "SOS, Slavic Bazaar". He was not competing with this performance, he was invited to sing. He has been a judge in that contest three times after winning it in 2015. For those who have just started this long journey to the magical world that opens with the celestial sound which comes from Dimash's throat, it will be a before and an after in their lives, but it will be for the better. Beleive me I'm not exagerating.
Chels got it right!! 11/10 is spot on. Dimash has the voice of an angel, please react to as many of his songs (apart from those on the USA competition programme) as you can find! Olympico, Ave Maria, War and Peace, Ikanaide, so so many and every one a masterpiece.

Dimash doesn’t do one genre, within one song he vocally touches multiple genres, as he did in this song, some power, some opera, some pop, he is unmatched. I would love to see you guys react to Stranger, quite an interesting composition, yes that’s an extreme understatement, it was composed by Igor Krutoy specifically for Dimash, if that gives you a better understanding. He went from B2 to E6, which is about 3.4 octaves. That would cover most of baritone, tenor, mezzo soprano and soprano ranges. But everything is so smooth and clean, no straining. He is usually choosing from at 3 voice types to sing a note or section because his voice type ranges overlap so much. Did you also notice he was constantly doing a crescendo or a decrescendo? So once he has the song planned out with all the right textures and dynamics, he works out the staging/acting part of the song. He has the music so locked in that he puts full effort into portraying the feelings in the song. He never stops presenting at any time in the song. Always in character.
It is hard to see all that on the first viewing, because too much is happening at once.
Dimash equals to music. He is on a very different level. When he sings, there is nothing else but everything the song is, you will be teleported to his world. Try Ave Maria by him if you want to enter heaven or Stranger if you feel like going to unknown land.

Welcome! Who is Dimash Qudaibergen?
Dimash is born in 1994, May 24, height: 1.91m; 6'3 '. He has been training in music since he was 5 years old. He is university-educated with degrees in classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. Dimash also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has recently completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition. He graduated with honors’, having achieved a perfect pitch. He has composed 12 of his own songs so far and is currently working on his doctorate. We have to call him soon Doctor Dimash Qudaibergen. 😃 Dimash said, “Open my heart, you will find music. If you open my brain you will find music too. Music is my life."
Dimash plays at least 7 instruments, traditional dombra is a must in his family. He speaks Kazakh (mother tongue) and Russian (without accent, second language in Kazakhstan), is learning English and Mandarin (dancing and Mandarin are difficult for him). So far, he sings in 13 languages. He trains his voice for 3 hours every day, has a perfect pitch...but Dimash said: "You don't need to know how hard I've worked, you just need to enjoy the results".
Experts consider Dimash a lyrical baritone with a typically long range. Some believe that he sings his high notes not as a countertenor, but as a natural soprano. He is the first singer to sing all 5 voices: bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, soprano.

Dimash dabbles expertly in virtually EVERY genre of music. If one genre doesn't appeal to you, go for another because this guy is musically incredible like no one else in the world and sings everything from opera to rap--and does it all brilliantly.
He does his own duets as well. He could sing the phone book and sound brilliant. Best singer in the world.
I thank Dimash for his wonderful performance, he's great. This song come from the rock opera "Starmania", I'm sure you know some songs of it singing in English. This track was written especially for Daniel Balavoine, his first song, because he had a beautiful and rare range. After this, he wrote, composed and sang his own songs. He was one of the best singer in France, he made a lot of hits (le chanteur, tous les cris les SOS, mon fils m'a bataille, l'Aziza,... And so many others). He was the best and favorite singer in our country, because of his songs and his generosity, very involved in the problems in Africa. Unfortunately, he died very young in an helicopter accident during the Paris-Dakar, a famous race in France, every body was very sad and my generation will never forget that moment. I wish you could listen to "Tous les cris, les SOS" because he registered a train that he mixed and transformed, in the 80's,very interesting... And my favorite one is his first he created "le chanteur" because of his voice and the lyrics, in the end of the 70's. Dimash is a world class artist, still just turned 27 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous Russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition. He is about to start his doctorate in Musicology.He has been having singing lessons from the age of 5 when his teacher noticed he had perfect pitch . He was offered a place at the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respectfully turned it down to pursue his own more contemporary musical career. He is a multi instrumentalist, more than 5 instruments and also sings in 12 different languages and has a range of over 6 octaves from a low bass A2 to a high soprano, plus a whistle register with his highest note so far being a 5 second D8 with vibrato. He is widely recognized as the best vocalist in the world. He speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is studying English and Mandarin and has conversational skills in both but not quite fluent yet. I had to laugh when you said I don't like this genre. Unlike most artists it's absolutely impossible to judge Dimash by one song as he doesn't have a genre. He sings what he wants, when he wants covering everything from Opera to Rap and everything in between. He'll sometimes mix 3 or 4 genres together in one song if he feels like it.
I would definitely recommend that you listen to Stranger or Across Endless Dimensions (which is the OST for a Sci fi movie called Creators the Past)
Debbie, it's always nice to hear first time listeners to DIMASh as their minds are conditioned to hear certain sounds and can not even imagine a singer that has no bounds and can sing any type of music he choses. None of us were ready for DIMASH when we first listened to him years ago; and even though we were shocked, we did not know the full extent of what he was really capable of, but now we know. what does DIMASH do then he changes the whole game and we don't know again what to expect. One of a kind and a LEGEND around the world already. Two olympic skaters performed separately to DIMASH songs and they were from different countries, in the current Olympics.

You have barely even begun to scratch the surface of Dimash's talent and ability. He has continued to hone his skills and to fine-tune and perfect his already unbelievable abilities even more. There does not seem to be a limit to what he can achieve vocally. I am excited to follow his journey. Dimash will possibly go down in history as the greatest vocal talent known to man. I cannot think of anyone, past or present, capable of doing what Dimash is capable of. I am still waiting on someone to name a single individual even remotely close to Dimash's talent.
If you want to follow Dimash's career progression over the last five years, here is a song list I usually recommend in semi-chronological order: SOS (d'un Terrien en détresse), either the Slavic Bazaar or the 2017 "I Am A Singer" version. His covers from the same competition of Lara Fabian's "Adagio," Eric Carmen's 1975 "All by Myself" (repopularized by Celine Deion) and Freddie Mercury's "The Show Must Go On." Also, from the same show, Confessa & Diva Dance, Opera 2, Daididau, Daybreak, and Autumn Strong. His "I Am A Singer" 2018 guest performance of Lionel Richie's "Hello" is a must. Then there is Sinful Passion (Greshnaya Strast), Love is like a Dream, Your Love, Olimpico (Ogni Pietra) from Igor Krutoy's channel, Diva Dance (Bastau Concert), Across Endless Dimensions (either the movie trailer or his internet live concert performance), Ti Amo Cosi (with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina), Ulisse (Duet with Aida Garifullina), and Know (both the regular performance as well as the vocalise).
His traditional and Chinese songs are also impressive: Adai+Daididau, Samal Tau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival), Qairan Elim (Holy Land), Elim Menin (My Homeland), Karagym-ai. And then there are Without You, Love Of Tired Swans, Where Love Lives, Unforgettable Day (Gakku Concert), I Miss You, Passione, Give Me Love, Marigold, Golden, Mademoiselle Hyde, Screaming, Tu Vas Me Détruire (duet with Sundet Baigojin), his latest music video "Be With Me," just to name a few.
His latest songs, "Fly Away," "Stranger," and "Ave Maria," recently debuted live at New Wave 2021, and the latter two are on a whole new level. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! Super Brothers S2" Youku Show that is simply mind-boggling and well-worth checking out. Then there is the release from the 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival of "Ikanaide," which is absolutely incredible. He sings in almost flawless Japanese. Avoid any performance from "The World's Best" show/competition. The producers' conduct was disgraceful and unprofessional, and all performances were cut and edited to make room for commercials.

Every song he sings is different, he is mixing styles like nobody else. The most rock-ish song I found so far would be Durdaraz ;)
Dimash is considered by many critics to be the best vocalist of our time. I am in agreement with that and call him the GOAT (greatest of all time). You should check out his new song Stranger that came out last year. I think it's right up your alley and vocally one of the best performances I've ever seen. There is no one on earth like Dimash. He is on a level all his own.
A bit about his background:
Dimash Kudaibergen, is a Kazakh singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is university-trained in classical as well as contemporary music, and is known for his exceptionally wide vocal range. He has performed songs in fifteen languages.
Although offered a position at the Astana Opera, he decided to carve out his career in contemporary music, mixing classical elements and traditional Kazakh music with pop music.
He gained significant popularity in Kazakhstan and other post-Soviet countries in 2015 upon becoming the Grand Prix winner of Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, Belarus. He rose to fame in China with his participation as a "wildcard competitor" in Hunan TV's Singer 2017 (Chinese: 歌手2017)finishing second overall.
Regardless of genre, one has to respect talent.

Thanks for the reaction to Dimash. Because Dimash was born with the physiological gifts to his Vocal Chords, and Lung capacity, and all the other things you need to be a good singer. He sings better than anyone. He has trained for 20 years and has perfected his singing techniques to almost Super Human levels. Huge Range, Vocal control, Lung capacity.............. Ect. He basically can sing anything and do it well. He wills his body to provide whatever it takes to hit those notes perfectly. But his real talent is his interpretive skills. He lives the songs he sings. Tells their story and involves the listener in the "story" of the song. Technique and Interpretation. A winning combo in the Music World.

You just witnessed the greatest vocalist of all time. He’s from Kazakhstan, sings in 13 different languages, plays multiple musical instruments and is currently working on his PhD in music. He’s been training since the age of 5, has a 6-8 octave range (depending on who you ask) has absolute pitch, and is an amazingly humble man. He sings every genre (even raps) He has many recent performances, but I would highly recommend “Sinful Passion “ 2018 and then "Stranger" 2021. Believe it or not, he’s only gotten better. You are right, he is the greatest vocalist ever recorded for sure. He has full 100% control of his vocal cords and can make any sounds he wants.
I think he has a long career ahead of him, and in due course he might become the best ever. At the moment he is branching out in many directions to experience and learn. I suspect the time to judge his worth will be in 20 years or so.
Definitely Sinful Passion!!! That has, IMO, the greatest 25 second vocal run ever heard.

Dimash can sing practically nearly everything....from bass to all sopranos.....pop, rock, jazz, opera.....you name it. I haven't seen him doing metal and country though. Heck......he can even duet with traditional chinese opera singers!

This is not a competition. He performed as a guest here where it was the same venue where he won the 2015 Slavic singing championship . He was 19 years old here and he is now 27 years old. If you love his singing performance , there’s hundreds of songs starting when he competed in The Singer 2017 and opened his popularity around the world.
He has different styles, techniques, voices that he sings in. Truley amazing talent.
He was on the show The Singer in China and he blew up overnight back in 2017 but in his own country he was already an established artist/singer.

I had no idea about music a year ago. I now have watched so many professionals explain his perfect techniques, that I now have terms to describe what he is doing with his voice.

Thanks for checking out Dimash. Dimash is just one of a kind. Checkout more cause you just scratched the surface. Keep in mind, most of the videos of his vocals are LIVE PERFORMANCES. Not recorded 20 times over and sliced and patched in with sound auto tuners until it sounds perfect. Nope. It’s just Dimash and his vocals. Pitch perfect every time, at every level and beyond the keys on a piano!!!
His music fits no exact category and he will never fit the norm of types of music I listen to.
He’s unique, stands out alone, no one can compare to what he does… and for that, I love him and give him an 11 out of 10. (This is coming from an old time Led Zep / Stevie Rae Vaughan / Queen fan. He’s up there by himself with them in that level of different awesomeness. 💎
