    Your lineup will be formidable especially if you re-sign Alonso but the current pitching staff is questionable. You need a proven starter not a dice roll.

      Manea and Alonso feel like musts

      @@FittedInThe798 That is my take on the basics of free agency from this point out for the Mets. They need to re-sign Alonso, or secure a credible replacement bat, and they need to re-sign Manaea, or secure a credible replacement. I really hope the Mets re-sign both Alonso and Manaea. If they do, then the rest is really just some tinkering in the bullpen and around the margins of the lineup. If Alonso comes back, and especially if the Mets can move Marte, I'd like to see Winker brought back. He can be a lefty DH and occasional OF option. They would need to add something to DH in that circumstance, at least from a righty ... though I guess a Winker/Marte platoon at DH isn't the worst option. Mostly I just feel like another dependable rotation arm and another big bat is necessary for the Mets to be real contenders. I guess we'll see.

    Sign Burnes!

    • @dashx1103
      @dashx1103 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm a fan of Burnes, but I just don't see it. Stearns seems averse to making long-term signings of starting pitching. Now, of course, the Soto signing was definitely out of character for Stearns, so ... who knows. My thought is that Stearns, just on his own, wouldn't have made that Soto signing ... but that Cohen prioritized it and endorsed it, so it was an outlier. I might be wrong. Just a sense of things on my part. Given that I think the Mets won't sign Burnes, I really, really, really want to see Manaea back in Queens. I think he's a potential lynch pin in the rotation. It's going to be interesting to see it all play out.

    They learned their lesson after letting Seth lugo beg to be a starter for his entire Mets career just to have a career year with the royals letting him do just that.

    • @dashx1103
      @dashx1103 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah. Lugo is an interesting case. I remember waaaaay back when (2016?) the Mets rotation was decimated and little-known guys, Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman, came out of obscurity to steady the ship and get the Mets to the WC game. I'll admit that back then, I honestly thought Gsellman had a brighter future. How wrong I was. Lugo kept plugging along and improving until he was a staple in the bullpen. Always making it known that he wanted to be a starter. When he finally got that shot? Good for Seth ... he took advantage and made it work. His season in San Diego was more than solid. Almost 150 innings and an ERA of 3.57. Then onto a good payday in KC -- and even more success. Over 200 innings and a 3.00 ERA (also a second place finish in Cy Young voting) in 2024. The Mets certainly could have used Lugo last season.
      And it isn't just Lugo. Teams are learning that some bullpen arms are more than suited for the rotation. Glad to see the Mets catching up in giving Holmes that shot. I have a positive feeling about it. My question with Holmes, assuming a successful transition to the rotation, is less about how well I think he'll do ... more to do with concerns about how many innings he'll have in him. I think there is a good chance that the Mets will utilize a 6-man rotation during large stretches of the season, so that might help. But getting back to Lugo: his first season moving from the pen to the rotation, he only delivered 146 innings. Although he did make 26 starts.

    Please sign Teoscar Hernandez to play LF & Anthony Santander to play RF, Soto should DH, Nimmo/Siri can share CF, Pete Alonso 1B/ then we will be better than dodgers

      LOL

    • @dashx1103
      @dashx1103 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a zero percent chance of that happening. The starting OF next year will be, from LF - RF: Nimmo, Siri, Soto. Any additional bats will come in the infield. Hopefully, from my perspective, it is a re-sign of Alonso. I think that is the bat that makes the rest of the lineup hum beyond Lindor, Soto, and Nimmo. The Mets need to get another big bat for the lineup, otherwise it diminishes Soto's impact. I'm really hoping for Alonso. But I'm not sure it will work out. I'm guessing Pete wants more years than Stearns will be willing to dole out. Guess we'll see.
      I also think that there will be a real surge next season from Alvarez. His power was way down in '24 as opposed to '23. We know that he was struggling with a thumb injury from early on. And hands are, obviously, important to hitting. We saw a bit of an uptick late in the year when he was presumably healthier. I absolutely think that what we saw from Alvarez in '23 is more true to what we'll see from him over the arc of his career. He showed us that he can hit for power. If completely healthy in '25: who knows? I would say 30+ HRs is more than possible.

    Let's face it and don't be naive. The METS signed JUAN SOTO because STEVE COHEN took the bull by the horns and did the signing. With STEARNS that wouldn't have been possible because of his MINI MARKET/MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY. It's as if he had a chip in his brain with the A'S budget. Now STEARNS will turn around and sign very cheap low tier pitchers. So METS' fans, don't expect STEARNS to sign any prmier starter.
