Ice Age: I actually like the movie but i can see why you didn't Ice Age 2: Is the most decent of the sequels Ice Age 3: It's funny and... that's it Ice Age 4: Really mediocre Ice Age 5: Krusty the clown: "...What the hell was that?"
I won’t lie, I think the sequence in 2 where Ellie remembers her past is really well done. Excellent score by John Powell, great animation, no dialogue. But it tells so much.
i used to come home from school everyday in 4th grade and watch the 4th one every night for about two months in a row. i know its not the best cinematically or storywise by any means but it holds so many good memories for me :')
It's been a while, but didn't Scrat kind of impact the plot of 4? I remember at the very beginning his highjinks with the acorn cause him to fall to the center of the Earth and roll around on it, setting off the continental drift. I guess people like IA 1 more than the others because it's relatively grounded compared to the rest. The animal characters are the least anthropomorphized and there's actual prehistoric humans. The parts with the humans I know are also well liked, probably helps that they don't have dialogue.
Good video. Nice of you to correct your mistakes and give the movies another shot. Tho for future reference I’d like to note that just because the majority of people disagree with you on media doesn’t mean you were wrong. At the end of the day that was just your opinion and we gotta live with it. Try to remember that for future reference. Also……. i was the only one who said they enjoyed Horton wasn’t I-
Fun fact: There was a rumor that came about awhile back a Rio series, focused on Nico and Pedro, was in production alongside a Ice Age series focused on Buck. I think Disney may have turned that series into the new Adventures of Buck Wild movie that's coming out soon. 🤔
I’d also like to add that, in the third movie, manny, Diego, and maybe Sid? get vored by a plant and the acorn gets a sad montage about how Scrat is replacing him for the sexy squirrel
The remix of "alone again, naturaly" is the only place ive seen it used in a kids movie, except megamind ofcourseand that I feel gives the movie a big boost.
#5: The Meltdown(2) - I’ll give this film credit for what it was going for. But in practice, I was bored out of my mind watching it because it offers very little entertainment and lacks in structure and stability. It’s honestly the biggest step backwards you could take for such a great film - 4/10 #4: Collision Course(5) - My biggest problem with this film is how this goes back to the status quo of the previous film and even rehashes the whole end of the world story and it really irks me. But to the films credit, Scrat, Granny, and Buck did get some laughs and chuckles out of me and the atmosphere is still really really impressive. - 4/10 #3: Continental Drift(4) - I found the whole pirate aspect to the film pretty engaging and fun and the new characters are really enjoyable…mostly. On top of that, this has my favorite Scrat moments out of any of the films on this list. However, the whole overprotective parent cliche did go over my head because some films did it much better and it can be pretty predictable and blatant with its story - 6/10 #2: Ice Age(1) - Between this and the top spot, they can both be interchangeable. This film’s simplicity is what makes this film work for me and it does have a good balance of drama and comedy. - 8/10 #1: Dawn of the Dinosaurs(3) - The reason this is my favorite and on par with the original is because it’s one of the best concepts you can do for an Ice Age sequel. And in practice, it was executed really well. - 8/10
Yup. At the time, pixar wasn't that big, and their budget was low, soo the animation was of course low quality. But Disney, who is literally one of the richest companies, making a new movie with terrible animation, despite the fact that they can do much better (Just look At the cgi of the poster), is unacceptable
I really don't think the movies are that good but my nostalgia for them makes me love the series (except 5 I've never seen it) HAHA thanks for sharing your opinions & observations, very curious to see more videos! congrats on your channel growth
The ice age films are a mixed bag for me Ice age: I understand why you hate it but I generally enjoyed the Adventure with Manny, Sid and Diego Ice age 2: Literally overrated I generally didn't like anything in this flim besides Manny and Ellie's relationship Ice age 3: The best one by far for me. This is where sid is at his best for me, Diego has an actual Arc then whatever the reason that Diego was afraid of water, That was weird. And Buck is amazing Ice age 4: A guilty pleasure of mine. While everything didn't work for me besides the pirate vs. Manny, Sid and Diego were easily the Highlight for me and Captain Gutt is one of the best Ice Age characters next to buck Ice age 5: ....Do I have to say why I hate this flim? Fine, every character is butchered besides peaches, Sid is at his worst here, I hated the Crystal asteroid scene, Sid getting a girlfriend makes no sense, Manny became a jerk because of jealousy of peaches boyfriend. Literally the only thing I liked about this movie is that peaches can be a great mother by showing off against her own mother that she can handle herself. That's it. Is that enough? I hope so EDIT: I forgot to mention in Ice Age 5 that Manny is at his worst in that movie. He is a bad parental figure for not supporting his daughter In the movie
i didn't see the the entire ice age 5 cause... why i should, but the part that i see about manny and his jealous really pissed me up, i mean... HE DIDN'T LEARN HIS F#CKING LESSON IN THE FOURTH MOVIE???????? LET HIS DAUGTHER TAKE CARE BY HERSELF!!!!!!!??????????? whatever, this sucks and i hope never see this shitty movie for the rest of my Life ever again
you see i completely get what you mean about the original movie being bland but honestly that's the only one i can watch nowadays without losing my mind lmao. i think the thing that really drives me crazy is the lack of continuity in regard to the world they established in the first place, like the human thing definitely ticks me off but also??? the third movie you have manny acting like he's never been a parent before. the original movie was like really emotionally touching for me because you have this guy having to get past his grief and this traumatic experience that took away his mate and kid but that movie you see him meet sid who was abandoned by his family and wants to return this baby to the humans, and he helps manny (in an odd way) see it through and then you have diego and like,, there's this theme of forgiveness and the entire time this overarching feeling of existential dread that just makes you feel for these characters. because you know how it goes, how the world is now, that that era was always going to end. but that's the thing! the emotional core of the original movie was honestly brilliant and one of its best qualities. it didn't *need* to say things out loud, some of its best moments didn't have dialogue in the first place. but then blue sky decided to keep making sequels as this cash grab thing which just resulted in the entire emotional core of that movie that made it so special kinda just.. pointless, y'know? it's not even that ice age was a fantastic movie, it was fine but not really all that great to look back at. it's the fact that they chose to basically spit in the face of anyone who found that original movie meaningful and special in what it was trying to say by basically getting rid of the real existential stakes that existed in the first one. like we all knew that meteor wasn't gonna hit in the last movie. but to go from something where they're existing and trying to survive in a changing world to like, literally trying to reverse a meteor from striking the planet??? that bothers me
Honestly, I always interpretated the cave painting scene as either Manny's fantasy about having a family that he never got to make reality or a story in which he's the kid that survived When I look back at it him losing them makes so much more sense, not sure what my kid brain was on when watching it and it definitely changes my opinion on it, thanks!
these movies are my comfort movies. i've seen them all hundreds of times. so my opinion is very, VERY biased. the first movie came out right before i was born so i was raised on it. the second one came out when i was 3, prime age for obsessions, so i watched it over and over. the third one came out when i was 6 and the absolute peak of my dinosaur phase, so i immediately loved it. the fourth and fifth one i watched in theaters because i loved the other ones so much. i love the pirates of the fourth, and the re-introduction of buck in the fifth one. i love every single movie so much and i could talk about them all for hours. obsessed.
I vibe with this post a lot. I had Ice Age 1 on VHS as a kid and watched it hundreds of times. I also watched 2 and 3 when they came out on DVD and replayed those a lot too. 4 and 5 aren't as good but the first 3 are classics IMO.
Just saying, at least with the Christmas special, they forgot that they were forgetting that humans existed in this world and have Santa show up and interact with the characters. But not an animal version of Santa, a HUMAN. Also, you can't say that the special might have been made it earlier on because it is set between movies 3 and 4.
I mostly agree with you on the first Ice Age. Even as a kid, I found it bland. I do like Diego and Manny. I don't hate Sid. But I do hate that cringey Ice Age Baby. Ice Age 3 is my favorite Ice Age movie. I love Buck and Scratte. In fact, I'm attracted to both Buck and Scratte.
He did that there _and_ in Continental Drift because Scrat in IA2 actually sets in motion the events *for* the flood going after his acorn which makes the movie trying to say that "global warming did it!" is a lie and then Scrat causes the entire continental break up in IA4 and IA5. It honestly got annoying, how much "power" they gave Scrat... 🙄
I actually really enjoy the first Ice Age movie. I love how it’s just a story about a bunch of dudes just chillin’ on a road trip together and learning to get along.
The best part about ice shake is the village builder mobile game that came out of it, they literally give you bonus coins for killing scrat If I had a nickel for every time I said a blue sky movie was worse than a mobile game in a Jonah Who comment section, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice right?
There are two types of people in this world: People that are immensely attracted to Shira, and complete liars. For real though, their relationship is the only reason I come back to the franchise at all. At least those two are pretty good.
@@nanaki1990blox The squirrel unfortunately cannot talk, therefore cannot soothe me with the wonderful voice of Jennifer Lopez. Also the animators spent the most time creating Shira's character and went the most in-depth with her designs, which I think is pretty obvious
I really enjoyed this video. There's something endlessly entertaining to me about someone that isn't a child bitching about children's entertainment. Great job, dude. I like the editing work as well. Not obnoxiously over-the-top like some channels, but the effort is there.
The two things I remember from ice age are the things that terrified me. Sid, and the weird prehistoric fish. I also remember something about Ellie and peaches but idk what
The appeal of Ice Age to me was all the background characters being based on real prehistoric creatures in the early films (1, 2, and 3). As a paleontology nerd, it was like finding those hidden easter eggs from other films in Disney movies. That's one of the reasons I dislike how the later ones got more and more disconnected from... well... the Ice Age.
First movie - a fun basic classic Second - my favorite, like the peril and character moments Third - kinda hollow but great action and laughs Fourth - bad but the pirates were fun especially Peter Dinklage Fifth - awful even though obviously the poor animators worked their asses off and made an effort
If you dont like the first film, I cannot defend the sequels, you're on your own with those ones. The dinosaurs in Ice Age 3 are nice to look at through, since no one knows what real dinosaurs, they clever took liberties in giving the dinosaurs different colors. Blue guanlongs, blue pterosaurs, orange triceratops, an albino Baryonyx and more
While this is definitely more of an opinion than a statement. The Danish voice actors were better than the English were. But again this is up to the person.
Ice Age 1 cave paintings get me crying in the club every time For me, I really liked the progression of the characters in general. The movie isn’t afraid to get serious and dark at times. I really think the emotional beats between Manny and Diego, as well as those between Diego and his pack, are pretty solid. Plus Sid is way less annoying than I remember in the first movie, and he was bearable, which really helps because I was expecting him to really drag it down.
I disagree with all your opinions on Ice Age but that's your opinion heres mine. Ice Age 1 fantastic it's got great music the slide segment is really good and I feel it has good emotions out of the Characters and the fight scene with the saber-tooth tigers at the end was great. Ice Age 2 good not as good as the first one Ellie was kind of a bitch to Manny and Crash and Eddie were annoying. But the concept was really good. And the music not as good as the first movie but still good. And the sea creatures fighting Manny were really good. Ice Age 3 good Buck was a really good and funny character I didn't think scratch need a girlfriend though. Ice Age 4 was meh The plot with Manny and Diego and Sid was really good and the Pirates were good but the segment with peaches and her friends and Ellie were blam. And in my opinion I don't think Diego needs a girlfriend. Ice Age 5 was bad It was sort of funny. But we've seen the segment with scrat already from the fourth film where he destroys the world in a way. We've also seen Manny being overprotective with his daughter before. And having him trying to break his daughter's boyfriend up with her was annoying. And 6th Ice Age movie The Adventures of Buckwild Disney why😡
Ice Age: I love babys. Ice Age 2: The Meltdown: Fish and dinosaurs, my to favorite species in one. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: With bugs and a carnivurous plant equels: A entertainment. Ice Age 4: Continetional Drift: Slightly better then a mouthfull of neils. Ice Age 5: Collision Course: Moderly plasent.
Glad y’all have opinions here’s mine. Ice age 1 serves and funny and touching story about sticking together in the face of prehistoric conflict. Despite having outdated animation the atmosphere and characters designs are what they are. Much of the story is told either verbally for comedic style or visually for dramatic moments. The Scratt subplot uses visual storytelling for unique comedic style and displaying aspects of the ice age. The character arcs revolting around the baby is where this movie really shines IMO. Manfred is a great definition on some one who has suffered loss. He goes through a character arc choosing to return Ice age baby out sympathy and accept Sid and Diego as companions. Sid is the more comedic character maybe you don’t like him but I think he’s fine as he makes the mistakes and takes the hits he deserves. However he has suffered abandonment and often makes for light hearted decisions such returning the baby (in the first place). Diego is the definition of being at war with the humans. The villain Soto has little but enough screen time to demonstrate his conflict with humans which shows not only his but Diego’s motivations. Diego however goes through a character arc learning that looking out for each other is more important than revenge. Overall I give Ice age 1 a solid 8/10 yes I have problems with it but not that many. As for the sequels I don’t think they live up to the original so I don’t care for them. I’d be glad if Blue Sky had only made 2 sequels or none at all because I love Blue Sky’s output. Ice age 1 is one of my 5 favourites alongside Robots, Rio 1, Peanuts and Spies In Disguise.
31:02 And I love how in this promo to Ice Age 4 Shira was bragging to her own voice actress Jennifer Lopez that her legs are WAY better looking. XD th-cam.com/video/JGRplOxoCbY/w-d-xo.html
Ice Age: A Humble beginning about 3 dudes who are unlikely allies coming together to help an infant and ultimately end up becoming best friends/family. I love it (nostalgia is probably a factor). However you do have a point tho. Ice Age 2: Wholesome at points but more goofy than the original and sets the tone for the rest of the series. It's ok. Ice Age 3: A personal favourite which has a bunch of funny random shit. Buck and Scratette are probably the best parts and as a kid "Walk the Dinosaur" was the greatest part of it bc it always made me dance till I wheezed. Ice Age 4: Ok but the most forgettable (maybe bc i never actually owned it?) Fun fact: The scene where scrat fell into the centre of the earth and created the continents kinda scared me as a kid for some reason. The promotional song "Continental drift" is a banger tho and Shira has a great design :3 Ice Age 5: Wtf LMAOOO ̶Y̶o̶u̶n̶g̶ ̶g̶r̶a̶n̶n̶y̶ ̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶c̶t̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶o̶
Nice to see a perspective from somebody who doesn't really have nostalgia for the franchise. There were some rankings that genuinely surprised me but in a good way. I don't think you had to justify your dislike of the series, but hey at least we got a good video out of your pain lol. Personally my list is a bit different (long post ahoy!): 5. Ice Age 5: Honestly my number 5-3 spots are interchangeable when it comes to plot coherence, but Collison Course goes to the bottom because it pisses me off more. Not even Buck could save this movie for me (I'd have been happy with a movie of him vs the dinosaurs. Nick Offerman dino was wasted in this movie). The biggest flaw this franchise has is expanding the cast so much that they barely get any focus (I honestly forgot Diego and Shira had an arc until the end. Hell, I forgot some characters were in the movie at all). The modern day references are tiring and there's so much Cash and Eddie in this...I hate them with every fibre of my being. Glad you saw something in it which I didn't. 4. Ice Age 4: The main reason this is above 5 is because the villain was genuinely intimidating and Diego's whole thing with Shira. The idea of groups of animals floating around during the breaking of Pangea is a creative idea, but there's some weird choices in here like the sirens (I think making them vocal mimics or lures rather than shapeshifters would have worked more) and the minion-like gophers (it's just the mini sloths from 2 again!). Also Peaches' whole plot was boring. It felt like a wasted opportunity not having Manny and Peaches go on the journey together, have Peaches prove herself and also have Manny acknowledge why he's so protective of her (you know, because he lost his entire family and doesn't want to lose her too). 3. Ice Age 2: A generic sequel. I like the relationship between Manny and Ellie because it actually has Manny acknowledge the family he lost while still allowing him to move on (his entire arc across the franchise is solid). The possum plotline was weird (I'd get Ellie having possum mannerisms being raised by them, but actually believing she's a possum?). Pretty sure the main reason I put this movie above the other 2 is because I have less things I outright dislike, but I'm not sure if that's because the movie was better or just forgettable lol. 2. Ice Age 1: I really do like this movie. It's not perfect in any sense, but I like every character (yes, even Sid. As a random aside you should have seen how awful Sid was as a character in early production) and was genuinely invested in the journey. This movie has a lot more emotional moments that hit me hard too, mostly the ones that feature zero dialogue (Manny's memories of losing his family, any silent communication between the humans and the animals. I love that kind of stuff). Oh and the movie just feels more...I want to say "grounded," (even though there are some weird jokes every now and again) which makes some of the more bizarre moments in the sequels feel extra weird. 1. Ice Age 3: Buck's the main selling point for me here, he's such a great take on this type of character and his whole Moby Dick subplot with Rudy was fun. The cast is also still small enough for everyone to have decent interactions and the fact it takes place in another location justifies no humans being around and just going nuts with the concept. All in all pretty solid. Oh and I'm going to say it...I like the Scrat segments, but mostly when viewed as a separate thing. They have an old Loony Tunes feel to them and I have a soft spot for that kind of comedy. Do they always fit the story? No, but do they entertain me? Hell yeah.
The only time I have laughed at Scratt past the age of 6 was when Family Guy used him in a cutaway gag. Mf's managed to make this character more funny in 15 seconds than Blue Sky could throughout 5 movies
see the thing I loved about ice age IS the humor. for me, my sense of humor is kind of stupid and I laugh at dumb noises and the way people say things. voices and the phrasing of the way people say things is so funny to me, so my sense of humor is just like imitating everything, and there's so much of that in this movie. so i get it if that's not your jam, but as someone who imitates everything she hears, sid's character had so much worthy of imitating -- i was having a field day. the voice actor for Sid did an incredible job using the entire range of his voice. and the voice for manny I thought was great as well, very much sounding like a mammoth. and in terms of the story/plot, yeah the villain is a little weak ? an angry saber tooth tiger who is trying SO hard to get a humans' baby for lunch/revenge because the humans like killed one of their own ?? idk I kinda forgot. but i like that the main saber tooth dude sends diego to go retrieve his snack but diego ends up joining sid and manny's herd because he realizes he's more than just like ... an assistant to the main saber tooth guy, running errands for him ? he realizes he has value in sid and manny's herd and they like him for more than just being a "big bad meeny weeny tiger." the plot of ice age is pretty much just like the Mandalorian, and I'm kind of in love with that show. characters who have nothing in common, finding a common ground and growing together through collective death-defying struggles, and learning to really love and care for one another. like at the end, when they have to give the baby back to his actual family, i was very surprised to find myself crying because sid, manny, diego, and the baby had become their own lil family, their own "herd", the most uncommon, weird combo of folks that just kind of ~work~ together somehow; they all bring something different to the dynamic that ends up being essential at some point in the story and it's really touching to see. idk call me cheesy or soft but i really enjoy that kind of story, where "people" complete each other 🥺🥺 also the soundtrack is kind of a banger, David Newman did a pretty good job.
Haha good luck. I mean they aren't as bad the first two are okay. But once Dinosaurs and the rest of the series goes crazy and inconsistent, then that becomes a problem and an issue.
Great video! It’s sad to think that Blue Sky Studios is no more. They not only had a huge impact on my childhood, but many others. I actually just put out a new video on my channel about the company and its future. Sound off in the comments! Would love to hear your thoughts.
Also great analysis! You brought up a lot of good points and stuff to look out for when writing/creating for features and television. One of the biggest things thing they taught us as pixar is that you should always avoid "and then's" and make sure your story is built on "because of's". That's something I feel like a lot of people tend to miss but you were spot on! Keep it up!
I remember that I refused to watch the fifth film, knowing that it would be a shit show, considering how the fourth film was like an ending to the series, and I swallowed my pride, watching it online and then just coming out of it not remembering a fucking thing about it. Watched it again while drunk two years ago on tv and then just felt nothing. I see it as nothing more than a shitpost that didn't need to be made, but was made regardless. The new Disney plus movie on the other hand is going to suck balls anyway.
5, 4, 2, 3 and 1 ( 5 is worst, 1 is best ). That's my personal ranking, they range from boring to pretty good. It's an alright series. I don't have any strong opinions on it
I think that you 1) didn't understand the hype due to the zillions of shows that have come after 2) you don't appreciate the humor they were going for 3) you're in the mood for new and innovative techniques over a slow-paced mammal adventure That's fine and all, but just remember it's one of the first 3D "buddy adventure" movies to exist, not only that, it has great quality that is enjoyable to this day I legit just rewatched it. And something I'd like to add is that you're supposed to enjoy the ridiculousness of the situation and the dynamic between the three amigos. That's the main focus of this movie. Kids love it because of the ice age creatures, the adventure and the funny parts. Adults like it because of the relatable protagonists (Manny has got to be #1 most pessimist/realist mainstream cartoon character ever). Add in the that they are mammals, and are supposed to be eating each other for lunch.......(and the human infant as a snack)...... Bro just the concept is so funny and the execution is unique (it very much leans towards nature documentary) but I find it thoroughly entertaining the whole time and the quiet desolate setting made it feel a bit more real. Like you could put yourself in the shoes of a lonely wandering mammoth in the actual literal ice age!
This was actually so validating to watch lmao. I have hated these movies my entire life, and all I ever hear from people is how great they are. The characters are annoying, the animation is bad, the jokes aren’t funny, the story isn’t compelling, the voice acting is a little grating, and I personally find the barren, practically apocalyptic setting very depressing. But what I hate more than anything else is that stupid little squirrel. When it came on TV or someone tried to show me a clip of it when I was a kid, I would literally burst into tears
I understand these movies aren't for everyone but I love them. Besides Toy Story, it's probably my favorite animated franchise. I'm of the opinion that Ice Age 1-3 are classics. 4 has it's moments. 5 is sheer ass juice though, but Buck made it tolerable. Overall I like the characters and themes. Sometimes I just need some lovable characters and some laughs. These are nice when you don't want something pretentious like Pixar tends to crap out a lot now.
I know I can't change your mind, but here's some food for thought: th-cam.com/video/b552FkXQpYA/w-d-xo.html , th-cam.com/video/OfZn856ln8c/w-d-xo.html , and th-cam.com/video/Vswv0h9YdG8/w-d-xo.html ; and in regards to the first link, at least tell me you didn't hate the baby in Ice Age 1. Also, how did Sid not remind you of Bruno Madrigal? I mean, think about it: Bruno's voiced by John Leguizamo; Bruno's a goofball; Bruno's "free entertainment" is a parallel to modern human stuff; and his whole family hated him for the better part of his life. Hmm, where have I myself heard of that? (Sid: "Why? Doesn't anyone love me? Isn't there anyone who cares about Sid the Sloth?") (To be fair, I grew up on these movies, but still...)
I agree with u on the part where the Bruno and Sid being out casted by the family and goofiness aswell as also growing up with these films myself. But there is a difference to where Bruno seems more of a better character. 1 Bruno is goofy by meek and awkward persona for being alone for 10 years and being hated by is gift not his personality. While Sid is being hated by his mild annoying action so much that his family left him several times. Also it's been said in the 4 movie that he doesn't really care for his hygiene while Bruno at least kept a tooth brush for being stuck in the walls and still has good teeth for 50 year old . Not trying to say Sid is a bad character he was the one who wanted to bring the baby to his home, helped degio at least get over his fears of swimming and saved Scratch life. Sid not perfect neither is Bruno but Bruno his better
Also while ice age take place way before modern times Encanto is set in the 1930 s where most of the modern references would make sense like sports and telenovelas game shows not too sure 😅 but then again Bruno might have looked in the future for that on his spare time before the whole in the walls event took place.
My ranking is literally just the movies in release order, note that I've only seen 4 and 5 as an adult and thus I have the better memory of those two than the rest. 1: Like this one the best. 2: Not as good, but still like it. When I was a child I was obsessed with the sea monsters, and I thought the mini sloths worshipping Sid was hilarious. Don't think I watched this one again since it first came out though. 3: The action feels mindless to me, but still mostly like this one. 4: The franchise is really getting old, and it needed to be retired at this point. Also the sea shanty was actually one of my least favorite things about this movie. Not normally against movies having song numbers nor do I dislike sea shanties, but this one felt really out of place to me. 5: A bafflingly stupid plot made this a hate watch when I actually did end up watching it. Thank god this franchise died. Also I refuse to believe you are not trolling when you say this one was your favorite.
I haven't watched the first one for like 10 years, but... Holly shit.. 10 years agi I was 15... Shiiittt... Anyways, I remember I liked it a lot. At least the music lol. And the dodo bird scene was funny!
My rating on all IceAge films Ice Age: 9/10 (fantastic) The Meltdown: 7/10 (decent, if not good) Dawn of the Dinosaurs: 8/10 (great Continental Drift: 6/10 (ok, if not decent) Collision Course: 4/10 (mediocre) Adventures of Buck Wild: 4/10 (slightly better than collision course, mediocre)
OMG YOU DISLIKE THE ICE AGE HOW DARE YOU!!! Make a great and logic reason that I hope most viewers understand 😄.
Fun fact: There was a rumor that came about awhile back a Rio series, focused on Nico and Pedro, was in production alongside a Ice Age series focused on Buck. I think Disney may have turned that series into the new Adventures of Buck Wild movie that's coming out soon. 🤔
Just like Treasure planet: the series, the Buck Wild movie will probably be a failed pilot series made into a movie
I’d also like to add that, in the third movie, manny, Diego, and maybe Sid? get vored by a plant and the acorn gets a sad montage about how Scrat is replacing him for the sexy squirrel
And then scrat dumps the sexy squirrel for the acorn
@@aidankocherhans9861 i don't blame him honestly . Scrattae was abusive af and tried to kill him multiple Times,i would too dump her for a nut

It’s honestly the biggest step backwards you could take for such a great film - 4/10
#4: Collision Course(5) - My biggest problem with this film is how this goes back to the status quo of the previous film and even rehashes the whole end of the world story and it really irks me. But to the films credit, Scrat, Granny, and Buck did get some laughs and chuckles out of me and the atmosphere is still really really impressive. - 4/10
#3: Continental Drift(4) - I found the whole pirate aspect to the film pretty engaging and fun and the new characters are really enjoyable…mostly. On top of that, this has my favorite Scrat moments out of any of the films on this list. However, the whole overprotective parent cliche did go over my head because some films did it much better and it can be pretty predictable and blatant with its story - 6/10
#2: Ice Age(1) - Between this and the top spot, they can both be interchangeable. This film’s simplicity is what makes this film work for me and it does have a good balance of drama and comedy. - 8/10
#1: Dawn of the Dinosaurs(3) - The reason this is my favorite and on par with the original is because it’s one of the best concepts you can do for an Ice Age sequel. And in practice, it was executed really well. - 8/10
36:28 Your idea of a Rio holiday special instead of a sequel is actually very good
I think it's unfair comparison to compare the animation from Ice Age to Toy Story 1.
yeah considering pixar's budget that was..yeah
@@celebrityguest.9530 especially all those clones at Andy's birthday party
@@Dashiell777 ohhh boy yeah
Yup.
At the time, pixar wasn't that big, and their budget was low, soo the animation was of course low quality. But Disney, who is literally one of the richest companies, making a new movie with terrible animation, despite the fact that they can do much better (Just look At the cgi of the poster), is unacceptable
Both look dated
I really don't think the movies are that good but my nostalgia for them makes me love the series (except 5 I've never seen it) HAHA thanks for sharing your opinions & observations, very curious to see more videos! congrats on your channel growth
The ice age films are a mixed bag for me
Ice age: I understand why you hate it but I generally enjoyed the Adventure with Manny, Sid and Diego
Ice age 2: Literally overrated I generally didn't like anything in this flim besides Manny and Ellie's relationship
Ice age 3: The best one by far for me. This is where sid is at his best for me, Diego has an actual Arc then whatever the reason that Diego was afraid of water, That was weird. And Buck is amazing
Ice age 4: A guilty pleasure of mine. While everything didn't work for me besides the pirate vs. Manny, Sid and Diego were easily the Highlight for me and Captain Gutt is one of the best Ice Age characters next to buck
Ice age 5: ....Do I have to say why I hate this flim? Fine, every character is butchered besides peaches, Sid is at his worst here, I hated the Crystal asteroid scene, Sid getting a girlfriend makes no sense, Manny became a jerk because of jealousy of peaches boyfriend. Literally the only thing I liked about this movie is that peaches can be a great mother by showing off against her own mother that she can handle herself. That's it. Is that enough? I hope so
EDIT: I forgot to mention in Ice Age 5 that Manny is at his worst in that movie.
I'm still annoyed about how They turned Manny into a Generic Overprotective Father.
Sid getting a wife did make sense in the 5th movie since diego got a wife in the 4th movie.
I can't remember what even happens in the 4th movie but the last movie ...the writers were on the crack rocks when they made that last movie
you see i completely get what you mean about the original movie being bland but honestly that's the only one i can watch nowadays without losing my mind lmao. i think the thing that really drives me crazy is the lack of continuity in regard to the world they established in the first place, like the human thing definitely ticks me off but also??? the third movie you have manny acting like he's never been a parent before. the original movie was like really emotionally touching for me because you have this guy having to get past his grief and this traumatic experience that took away his mate and kid but that movie you see him meet sid who was abandoned by his family and wants to return this baby to the humans, and he helps manny (in an odd way) see it through and then you have diego and like,, there's this theme of forgiveness and the entire time this overarching feeling of existential dread that just makes you feel for these characters. because you know how it goes, how the world is now, that that era was always going to end. but that's the thing! the emotional core of the original movie was honestly brilliant and one of its best qualities. it didn't *need* to say things out loud, some of its best moments didn't have dialogue in the first place. but then blue sky decided to keep making sequels as this cash grab thing which just resulted in the entire emotional core of that movie that made it so special kinda just.. pointless, y'know? it's not even that ice age was a fantastic movie, it was fine but not really all that great to look back at. it's the fact that they chose to basically spit in the face of anyone who found that original movie meaningful and special in what it was trying to say by basically getting rid of the real existential stakes that existed in the first one. like we all knew that meteor wasn't gonna hit in the last movie. but to go from something where they're existing and trying to survive in a changing world to like, literally trying to reverse a meteor from striking the planet??? that bothers me
well said. Ive never thought about it like this and i love your take. its a nice way to look at the movie and im sad they ruined it
Honestly, I always interpretated the cave painting scene as either Manny's fantasy about having a family that he never got to make reality or a story in which he's the kid that survived
When I look back at it him losing them makes so much more sense, not sure what my kid brain was on when watching it and it definitely changes my opinion on it, thanks!
ice age 3 is so funny to me I always quote it and see if people get the reference. I don't care about the other ones though
“We don’t talk about Sid” then talks about Sid
Speaking of “We don’t talk about Sid”…
Just like Bruno. They’re the same actor
these movies are my comfort movies. i've seen them all hundreds of times. so my opinion is very, VERY biased. the first movie came out right before i was born so i was raised on it. the second one came out when i was 3, prime age for obsessions, so i watched it over and over. the third one came out when i was 6 and the absolute peak of my dinosaur phase, so i immediately loved it. the fourth and fifth one i watched in theaters because i loved the other ones so much. i love the pirates of the fourth, and the re-introduction of buck in the fifth one. i love every single movie so much and i could talk about them all for hours. obsessed.
i’m happy for you i really am
Right on dude
I vibe with this post a lot. I had Ice Age 1 on VHS as a kid and watched it hundreds of times. I also watched 2 and 3 when they came out on DVD and replayed those a lot too. 4 and 5 aren't as good but the first 3 are classics IMO.
I watched the fourth ice age in Spanish with my family so I understand I guess lol
I might watch the whole thing of this tomorrow
please do
I'm seeing you everywhere-
I mostly agree with you on the first Ice Age.
What did the baby do other than look like a pre-historic human?
Ice Age 2 actually has Scratt affect the main plot; He ends up breaking the iceberg and stops the flooding
The best part about ice shake is the village builder mobile game that came out of it, they literally give you bonus coins for killing scrat
If I had a nickel for every time I said a blue sky movie was worse than a mobile game in a Jonah Who comment section, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice right?

To be honest the hot squirrel is closer to my type. Shira is too tough.
@@nanaki1990blox The squirrel unfortunately cannot talk, therefore cannot soothe me with the wonderful voice of Jennifer Lopez.

Turns out it wasn't a hot take after all lmao
The two things I remember from ice age are the things that terrified me. Sid, and the weird prehistoric fish. I also remember something about Ellie and peaches but idk what
Is it when Ellie comforts Peaches after Peaches yelled at her father before getting separated
@@nanaki1990blox its probably when the fish from the 4th movie impersonate them and they have like sunken eyes and sharp teeth.
I really thought it was kinda cool how they used the hollow earth theory as inspiration for the setting in one of the later movies

i had ice age 3 on dvd as a kid and every time i watched it i thought that that stupid "dID yoU DiE" joke was the funniest shit ever
The appeal of Ice Age to me was all the background characters being based on real prehistoric creatures in the early films (1, 2, and 3). As a paleontology nerd, it was like finding those hidden easter eggs from other films in Disney movies. That's one of the reasons I dislike how the later ones got more and more disconnected from... well... the Ice Age.
ice age is classic because I lot grew up on that movie including me and it was the most deepest out of all the movies.
You could make a "Write An Ice Age Movie" challange based on the formula you presented in like a Discord server of something.
First movie - a fun basic classic
Second - my favorite, like the peril and character moments
Third - kinda hollow but great action and laughs
Fourth - bad but the pirates were fun especially Peter Dinklage
Fifth - awful even though obviously the poor animators worked their asses off and made an effort
I think they are feel good movies. Thats why I like them and come back to them :)
Ice Age 1 cave paintings get me crying in the club every time
For me, I really liked the progression of the characters in general.
Sid doesn't even have character development lmfao
Neither did anyone other than Diego
(this is about the first Ice Age lol)
You’re right about Sid, but Manny learns to make a new family.
I disagree with all your opinions on Ice Age but that's your opinion heres mine.
Ice Age 1 fantastic
it's got great music the slide segment is really good and I feel it has good emotions out of the
Characters and the fight scene with the saber-tooth tigers at the end was great.
Ice Age 2 good not as good as the first one Ellie was kind of a bitch to Manny and Crash and Eddie were annoying. But the concept was really good. And the music not as good as the first movie but still good. And the sea creatures fighting Manny were really good.
Ice Age 3 good
Buck was a really good and funny character I didn't think scratch need a girlfriend though.
Ice Age 4 was meh
The plot with Manny and Diego and Sid was really good and the Pirates were good but the segment with peaches and her friends and Ellie were blam. And in my opinion I don't think Diego needs a girlfriend.
Ice Age 5 was bad
It was sort of funny. But we've seen the segment with scrat already from the fourth film where he destroys the world in a way. We've also seen Manny being overprotective with his daughter before. And having him trying to break his daughter's boyfriend up with her was annoying.
And 6th Ice Age movie The Adventures of Buckwild Disney why😡
at least we both like buck
The sea creatures are nightmare fuel.
I like that scrat got a girlfriend specifically because he ends up dumping her for an acorn
@@aidankocherhans9861 that's true. It's too bad that Disney ruined it by making scrad have a kid
@@Dashiell777 does he get back with her in the 5th movie?
Hey Jonah. What was your opinion on Ellie's background story? That was my favorite part of the second one.
the only intriguing thing about the fourth movie is Shira. i’ve made my point have a good day
Ice Age: I love babys.
Why is Mickey Mouse crucified in the background
The promotional song "Continental drift" is a banger tho and Shira has a great design :3
Ice Age 5: Wtf LMAOOO ̶Y̶o̶u̶n̶g̶ ̶g̶r̶a̶n̶n̶y̶ ̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶m̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶a̶c̶t̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶o̶

Nice to see a perspective from somebody who doesn't really have nostalgia for the franchise. There were some rankings that genuinely surprised me but in a good way. I don't think you had to justify your dislike of the series, but hey at least we got a good video out of your pain lol.
Personally my list is a bit different (long post ahoy!):
Fun fact buck has been in every ice age movie since 3 he has 3 seconds of screen time in ice surfing movie with pirate
see the thing I loved about ice age IS the humor. for me, my sense of humor is kind of stupid and I laugh at dumb noises and the way people say things. voices and the phrasing of the way people say things is so funny to me, so my sense of humor is just like imitating everything, and there's so much of that in this movie. so i get it if that's not your jam, but as someone who imitates everything she hears, sid's character had so much worthy of imitating -- i was having a field day. the voice actor for Sid did an incredible job using the entire range of his voice. and the voice for manny I thought was great as well, very much sounding like a mammoth. and in terms of the story/plot, yeah the villain is a little weak ? an angry saber tooth tiger who is trying SO hard to get a humans' baby for lunch/revenge because the humans like killed one of their own ?? idk I kinda forgot. but i like that the main saber tooth dude sends diego to go retrieve his snack but diego ends up joining sid and manny's herd because he realizes he's more than just like ... an assistant to the main saber tooth guy, running errands for him ? he realizes he has value in sid and manny's herd and they like him for more than just being a "big bad meeny weeny tiger." the plot of ice age is pretty much just like the Mandalorian, and I'm kind of in love with that show. characters who have nothing in common, finding a common ground and growing together through collective death-defying struggles, and learning to really love and care for one another. like at the end, when they have to give the baby back to his actual family, i was very surprised to find myself crying because sid, manny, diego, and the baby had become their own lil family, their own "herd", the most uncommon, weird combo of folks that just kind of ~work~ together somehow; they all bring something different to the dynamic that ends up being essential at some point in the story and it's really touching to see. idk call me cheesy or soft but i really enjoy that kind of story, where "people" complete each other 🥺🥺 also the soundtrack is kind of a banger, David Newman did a pretty good job.
oop sorry for this essay, didn't mean to write so much

I think that you 1) didn't understand the hype due to the zillions of shows that have come after 2) you don't appreciate the humor they were going for 3) you're in the mood for new and innovative techniques over a slow-paced mammal adventure
That's fine and all, but just remember it's one of the first 3D "buddy adventure" movies to exist, not only that, it has great quality that is enjoyable to this day I legit just rewatched it.
Like you could put yourself in the shoes of a lonely wandering mammoth in the actual literal ice age!

mom got it for me for christmas, ask her
@@JonahWho Alright i will lol!
You'r videos are fire 🔥🔥
Listening you ramble on about how random and boring this franchise is I realized, wow, I fucking love Ice Age. Nostalgia bias is very potent.
Also while ice age take place way before modern times Encanto is set in the 1930 s where most of the modern references would make sense like sports and telenovelas game shows not too sure 😅 but then again Bruno might have looked in the future for that on his spare time before the whole in the walls event took place.
one big difference was the dumb lisp
Are you a Neebs Gaming fan? I noticed you use a lot of music they do.
I like to imagine Josh Gad couldn’t come back because they couldn’t afford him after Frozen
happy new years jonah !
you, too
Ice Age is basically a soap opera but in film format
Let us not forget sid went up the mother dinosaurs nose for no reason
Sadly Disney isn’t going to make it die.
@@prayingkabutops1392 yeah I know... I wrote this before that new tragedy was revealed to the public
The Ice Age 2 movie was called "The Meltdown" for a reason...
Can we all agree that Continental Drift felt waaaaay too similar to The Meltdown.
YOUR ALLOWED TO FORGET ABOUT THE ICE AGE MOVIES NOW…
lucky
real lucky
Ya but Disney making another one
I’m gonna sob
@@jaybeeess in my opinion I felt like the first 3 Ice Age movies were really good. But the fourth one was meh and the fifth one was bad
I never said people couldn’t like them-
@@jaybeeess I never said that either
I haven't watched the first one for like 10 years, but... Holly shit.. 10 years agi I was 15... Shiiittt...
Anyways, I remember I liked it a lot. At least the music lol.
And the dodo bird scene was funny!
