  • Lighting for videos in a small room can be challenging. Big light boxes are too bulky and can take up a lot of space in a small room. Luckily, I partnered up with Raleno to review this set of lights that have transformed the way I shoot videos for TH-cam. The slim design and bright light is the perfect kit for my setup. Most of the time I'm using the lights at around 30% brightness and they work great. Learn how to light a scene for TH-cam in a small room with this video.

    Hi…thanks for this review; but can I know how you positioned this light (I would prefer a picture/video set up); I purchased this lights but having a difficult time positioning it to get the similar lighting effect that you have.

    • @axelbydesign

      Yeah, I can do a video update on this kit and show you how I positioned the lights. But I will also try to explain here so you can give it a shot in the meantime.
      So let's talk from the POV of where I'm sitting. I placed one light to my left diagonal and not directly in front of me at 30% brightness. This will be they light or the main light source. Then I'm going to place another light on my right side and this will be the *FILL* light. But let's use an intensity or brightness level that is less than our key light. (i didn't mention that on this video) For example if my KEY light is at 30% brightness then my FILL light will be 10% or 20% depending on how much fill you want. Try not to use these lights at 100% brightness as that will be so bright and give you super harsh shadows.
      Another option you can do is turn the lights to 100% Brightness but point them away from you in to a white wall and let that light reflect back to you. I found this creates softer shadows but then the whole room get's evenly lit. Depending on the look you are going for this may work.
      There is a guidance of lighting best practices, but ultimately you'll have to test until you find a setup that best fits your environment and make note of that for consistent results.
      Finally, make sure the room lights are turned off and that you are lighting only by using these lights.
      I hope this helps!

    Hi! Do these produce any kind of noise? Do they heat up "reasonably"? Thanks!!!

    • @axelbydesign

      Honestly, I haven't encountered them overheating easily. I've used them (at most) continuously about 2-3 hrs as most of my videos are shorter form. However, the whole back side is a vent to help with the heat release. (See the back of the lights in the video starting at 2:09). Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Just wanted to ask if you still like using the lights? Also can you use them while plugged in and charging? in other words, can I have them plugged in and say at 100% and they can stay on for hours at a time? So just use them as a pugged in light if there is a plug near by

    • @axelbydesign

      Yes, this is still my main lighting setup! You can use them while plugged in and charging, so that gives you the ability to have them on for hours as long as they are plugged in. Please let me know if this helps out or if you have more questions I'll be glad to answer!

    I've noticed led panel lights like these tend to be harsher and uncomfortable to look at when compared to the softbox style light you have. Are these lights uncomfortable on your eyes when shooting longer videos?

    • @axelbydesign

      This is certainly true, however for me I don't tend to place the light directly in front of me. This kit comes with 2 lights so I put one to the right and the other to the left of me to have even lighting. This way, I'm not looking directly in to the lights. On top of that, these lights have brightness adjustment so you can reduce the brightness according to your preference. Let me know if this helps.

      Hi, thanks for your comment. I don't usually record the light when it's on because it just looks like a big white glare but I can do a short video for you to see the light on. I'll be posting it as a short so keep an eye out for it. Let me know if you have another question, I'd be happy to answer. Thanks!
