      Hi Christopher, I'm glad you enjoyed it. New Plymouth is an apt name, as the Taranaki region has a lot in common with Cornwall, a wonderful coastline and pretty inland scenery, only the volcano is missing, although the landscape created by the china clay workings can look a bit like some of New Zealand's thermal areas 😉

  • @Timsvideochannel1

    Hi James, this is the part of New Zealand, New Zealanders keep to themselves, it really is a little bit of paradise in an otherwise mad world. Foreign holiday makers skip New Plymouth because it's not on the way to somewhere else, it is a destination in itself.

    Hello Tim! You told me in the last email that this video took up a lot of time. You can see that immediately because it turned out great. The whistle concert for the big boys was very nice at the beginning. I also know the two nice people at minute 7:43 quite by chance👌. The helicopter shots are impressive. Very nice for me, because you know that I won't get on any more sky tractors. With this in mind, Tim, stay healthy and put on your gas mask. Hopefully this Corona Theater will be over soon. Best regards from Hans from the Mühlviertel and Cheers. 🍻🇦🇹

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Hans, you were observant to recognise me with my sister reflected in the mirror surface of the metal sphere at 7:43. Some parts were filmed before I even knew that TH-cam existed. Over the years cameras have used a number of formats ranging from full size video tapes, DVD tapes, Mini DVD tapes, internal hard drives, along with various shapes and sizes of memory cards. My early cameras didn’t have floating lenses or steady software, requiring the use of steady software when processing the footage to try and achieve the best result. It is worth the effort because it reminds me of some of the wonderful places I’ve been lucky enough to visit. I am being careful to obey the lock-down rules, hopefully it won’t be too long before the Vaccine allows a steady return to normal living. Take care and stay safe. Tim.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 All right, Tim! I guess I didn't look very closely. I saw you in the mirror and thought your wife was standing by. Can happen, I was a little distracted because I stuffed cigarettes next to it (JPS). In the last 20 to 30 years the technology of data storage has changed so much that it is almost impossible to keep up. The good thing is, it's all gotten a lot faster, better, and cheaper. My first computer in 1995 cost the equivalent of € 1700 and was a sleeping pill. Today they'll throw you a tablet for € 200, and that's nimble as a weasel. And it can be 10 times as much. A lot has happened there. Best regards Tim and Cheers 🍻.

    Tim, another classic, high quality compilation. Stunning views - particularly the helicopter flight! But the steam train and river steamer combination were up there with atmosphere and high quality presence. Not forgetting the traction engine symphony! Beautifully shot and edited again. Peter

      Hi, nice to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well in these challenging times. Mount Taranaki dominates the skyline, the views from the top are breathtaking. I live in the UK and most restrictions have now been dropped or eased making it possible for museums, heritage railways and other visitor attractions to open with almost no restrictions. I have my first overseas trip to Germany booked for January 2022, sadly it's going to be a while before I get to see my granddaughter in NZ.

      Hi John, Whanganui is an interesting place, there is more to it than meets the eye. Has it changed much since the eighties and did you ever travel over the now mothballed SOL railway to Taumarunui?

    • @johnmchardy1229
      @johnmchardy1229 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timsvideochannel1 no I did not go to Taumarunui on the main trunk line. There is a song with those words in it. I went to one of the beaches mentioned and boy could you feel the ancient Maori spirit there I think it was the first one. Very wild and full of debris just the same. I remember well the botanical gardens they were a place I used to go and actually sit by the little lake an see birds from Australia there. I think they have done a lot of work there. Thanks Tim for the trip down memory lane.

      @@johnmchardy1229 Hi John, the Stratford-Okahukura Line (SOL) connected Stratford to Taumarunui via a fascinating secondary line that is mothballed today although it is still possible to travel over it in a golf cart converted to run on rails. The trip takes two days, it's an awesome way to see the Forgotten World. I love the wild beaches between Whanganui and New Plymouth, I am currently editing a video taking viewers from New Plymouth to Taumarunui via the coastal route, it's wild country and the road shown on the map as a proper road turned out to be little more than a dirt track in places. I'm please you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Cheer. Tim.

      @johnmchardy1229 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Yes I have seen the golf cart adventure and enjoyed it very much. I watched the whole series several times. One of your best I reckon take care.
      I actually left Kiwi in 87 to go back to Brisbane. My former boss called me in Whanganui with a contract to service equipment at Expo 88. I had a six month pass to Expo 88 it was a real blast. I could come and go as I pleased.
      One day I got a call and went to a shop selling ice cream etc. Someone had poured a milkshake into a cash Register. I took it away washed the circuit board down dried it and bingo it went. Casio Registers are pretty good.
      I really miss Brisbane but it is way too hot now in Qld for this little black duck. I hope you can get out again soon. Thanks Tim.

      @@johnmchardy1229 My first calculator was Casio, it was eye-wateringly expensive, but it lasted a long time, today the same calculator costs next to nothing. My Cousin who I have visited a couple of times lives in Brisbane, it's a lovely city. I can imagine being around Expo 88 was interesting, getting a first hand look at tomorrows technology. My youngest daughter was working in Shanghai when "Expo 2010 Shanghai" was on, she loved all the new Tech. Circuit boards can be pretty resilient, occasionally I open the control cabinets of my CNC machinery then close them again quickly, just the sight of all those boards causes me to break out in a cold sweat, it costs a fortune every-time one goes wrong, getting new replacements is impossible, fortunately there are still some clever guys around who can test and repair 20+ year old boards. I look forward to getting out to Oz again. Take care. Tim.

      @Timsvideochannel1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      South Island is very scenic, North Island has more volcanic activity, I'll be publishing more videos showing North Island in the coming months, the one I am working on at the moment shows the "Forgotten World" a truly prehistoric landscape, not normally visited by world tourists, although popular with New Zealanders. It will take another week or two to finish and publish it, I'm sure it will make the choice between North or South Island more difficult.
