    Can I make one suggestion? I realize the paint job is done, and Paul did a really nice job on it. IF it had been me, what I think I would have done would have been just at the front of the door, I would have used a curve to go from the full height of the stripe to a pin point at the front of the cowling. This is kind of hard to explain, but pretty easy to demonstrate. If you have a current version of Microsoft Windows, there's a program there called Paint 3D. You can open that, and use the 2D tools to create a line (use 1 point for the size) that would have been straight from the tail cone to the front of the engine cowl. Then for the second line, I would have moved the starting point of the second, lower line, a bit forward of the starting point of the first, so you could have about a 30º line from the back of the top line to the back of the bottom line.
    Now, the second line runs in a straight line, but slopes downward, just like you have it. I would have run that line to just about where the front of the door is. Here comes the tricky part. In this Paint 3D, under the '2D Shapes' there are several lines, and one of them is a '3 point line.' Connect the rear of the three point line to the end of the bottom line, at the front of the door, and then connect the other end of this line to the front of the top line.
    Now, by moving that third dot around, you can alter the shape of the line. I would have put that dot about 25% of the way towards the front of the airplane, and then about 60% of the way up to the top line. Creates a nice curve to a point on the front of the airplane!

    If you can't get scratches out it's because you didn't start with a coarse enough abrasive. The initial abrasive has to leave heavy scratches near in magnitude to what you want to remove. Go all one way until the whole surface is covered with an even field of the scratches you put on all running one way. The original scratches have to disappear on this first sanding. If they didn't switch to a coarser grit and start over. Then switch to the next finer grit and sand the other way. Sand until all the old lines are gone and the whole surface is covered with an even field of scratches the new direction. Continue that way to a fine grit and then switch to polish. If you don't start with a coarse enough grit you'll never get the scratches out and you'll just end up with polished scratches. Nobody wants that (unless it's an artistic effect you're going for).

      I should have been more clear with my wording and the use of 'scratches' - perhaps Gouges would have better?

    Looks incredible but a question, why paint? Why not vinyl wrap? I see more and more going with the vinyl and seeing someone using paint it makes me ask. Looks really good though.

    • @GlensHangar
      @GlensHangar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tough question - I did look at Vinyl and costed it out for the design I wanted. It came in a little higher than paint (though Paul is a friend and didn't charge full freight, so there was a major advantage). The second consideration was how long it would last; I've seen a lot of planes with vinyl striping where the vinyl has dried out / cracked / peeled after a few years of UV / weather exposure and it looks horrible. The paint will outlast vinyl by a long shot - or should outlast vinyl by a long shot.
      Check back in a couple of years and we'll see?

  • @MayhemCanuck

    Just a car mechanic here but love the aviation stuff more... Why have the tires at such a low pressure? Most cars stored benefit from full pressure cold if stored or not moved for more than 30 days, as well as it making it much easier to move around. Prevents flat spots as well from sitting in one place for to long. Just curious. Great series

    • @GlensHangar
      @GlensHangar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tires get a lot of questions - over the 6 months or so that we've been working on the plane and not flying it, we've inflated and deflated the tires more times than I care to remember. It seems that every piece of gear or operation requires that the plane be 'levelled' differently and depending on where it's sitting in the hangar we'll add or remove air to accomplish this. What you see in the video is just whatever the tires were set to after the last task.

    • @MayhemCanuck
