I have been waiting for a video on finish. FINALLY I AM HAPPY I SUBSCRIBED TO THIS CHANNEL. Man talks actual sense. I keep looking for folks who are able to see under the hype and find good value.
Appreciate that!
Great video and really informative, I’ve been looking for a straight forward video on different finishing techniques. Your channel has been my go-to for a while now. Always look forward to your new content.
Awesome! I’m glad you've been enjoying the channel.
Great shots and insights of the movement. But this comparison doesn’t work. You are comparing apples with oranges. It’s a three hand moser on a strap compared to a chrono Panoramadatum on a bracelet. For sure you get more out of the moser… here you have to compare a 7k€ GO sixties with a 15k€ pioneer. There you will see that the GO is not half as good as the moser but like 75% as good and with that a bargain. I own a sixties and a streamliner. I love both brands. You could also have gone the other way round and compare a 24k€ lange Saxonia thin with a 22k€ moser venturer. There the German would have won by miles.
I would have expected this kind of content and quality from the likes of hodinkee - great work!
Thank you!
Great video. It was very nice to see the Benzinger GAP 1 grey dial, there are only a few made in this colour and l happen to own one, super nice.
the comparison between the 2 watches is not fair , because they are two different types of watches.
Other than thickness what the issue?
Of GO's catalog this is not the watch I would have compared to a Moser. Still a great video though!
Great info on finishing.
Love the Moser. I'm not a watch connoisseur, so for the very first second it looks basic. But the longer I look, the more I appreciated its finnish.
The Moser is gorgeous!!!!
Good video. I think the battle is fairly moot between these two; Moser has the better striping. But neither have real anglage (i.e., mirror polished bevels). Both do have some manual finish but also some mechanically executed. One brand that would beat either in the same price bracket is Blancpain, like with the Fifty Fathoms/Bathyscaphe’s Cal. 1315, which is among the best finished movements for price in the business (actually, it probably is). Real mirrored bevels there, actually rounded/finished off by hand. Also just has very nice architecture, like the Moser.
Curious to see about the Patek. Their finishing is really hit or miss depending on the price bracket.
Subscribed for an informative video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't get it. I have a GO SeaQ Panorama Date, so the movement is different, but the finishing on the movement and the case looks better on mine than the GO in your video. A little deeper, a little better done all over. Mine is a couple of years old, from when the bracelet still had polished center links.
Edit: So to answer the last question in the video, would I pick the GO or the Moser? Neither. I would pick the good old GO SeaQ Panorama Date. What happened to GO?
I think I’m excited for the Patek Philippe review
I actually have BOTH of these watches - the SeaQ Chron and the Moser (but in Swiss Mad Red Fumé) as well as the watch roll, AND I purchased them all from Exquisite Timepieces!! Too wild! Jenya is my sales person with whom I exclusively work. I love both of these watches for so many reasons, and that’s why I own both of them. The are important watches in my collection. 11:24
Superb!
I would take the Moser over the Glashutte any day
Swiss labour is more expensive than the already expensive german labour.
Grand seiko solos
Nope
Hamilton?
You forgot colimacon which means snailing finish of the wheels in the movement. Very nice content though Harrison! A lot of the money value of a watch also depends on the design language of that watch. The case design and finish of that Moser makes it way superior to anything that GO can offer. A good example of why design language can affect prices is Cartier. They don’t bother with any movement finish or high horology cuz their area of interest and superiority if their designs. No wonder that Cartier sales have become second to none other than Rolex in recent years. Now Rolex doesn’t bother with movement finishes as much but their solid construction and their heritage is what make them the most desirable and recognizable brand in the world. Another factor is heritage and legacy. Patek doesn’t always finish every movement to the highest level that some of those micro brands and indies are doing but it’s always worth investing your money in their watches. Their designs are timeless and their movements are gorgeous. Keep up the good work man!
I agree with what you said about Patek’s beautiful movements, and in general I agree regarding timeless designs…but have a seen their latest offering, the Cubitus?
I think they really missed the mark, especially the top model, the reference 5822P.
Not way superior to anything GO can offer. Don’t forget that GO produces the Senator Chronometer, which, all things considered, can easily go toe-to-toe with what Moser makes (shy of the minute repeater tourbillon).
Everything else you say is basically correct.

Too much decoration. Not enough innovation... And maintenance costs are not included. Some are shocking. Ask Tutima.
Watches: Swiss
Destabilising Europe: Germans
Overall, I'd pick the Swiss for finishing and the Germans for manufacturing. There are exceptions to this, of course. Rolex is the king of manufacturing and German brands like Lang & Heyne and Moritz Grossmann are right up there with the very best of the best when it comes to finishing.
Why is Rolex the king of manufacturing ?
@@erikknudsen2971 Because they bought their suppliers 20 or so years ago so unlike the vast majority of Swiss brands, they do all of their manufacturing and they do it in Switzerland, in-house. And they put out well over a million units per year, high quality with a very good quality control, great aftersales service and short turnaround times. At scale, they have no equal in the watch industry. Even Seiko had to outsource the vast majority of their manufacturing to various Asian countries, which all came with horrible quality control.
@@erikknudsen2971Unfortunately youtube randomly deletes comments, so my reply is gone now. In short: Rolex bought their suppliers so they manufacture, assemle and test everything in Switzerland, in house. They make 1.2 mil units per year and have high quality control, great aftersale service and short turnaround times. At scale, they have no equal. They have perfected mass manufacturing.
Rolex is king of marketing (hype, false scarcity.....) and branding. Manufacturing king goes to the Germans. If you were to put in another contestant, the finish of grand seiko will be better than they 2 above
@@joonkt3483 No, Omega and Grand Seiko are kings of marketing. Name one German brand that manufactures 1.2 million watches per year in house. I'll wait. You don't understand what you are talking about.
