For a surface plate, I use a piece of granite that was made to be a cutting board, but is flat to about a thou give. Sometimes kitchen shops skip good bits of granite and other times memorial masons sometimes have bits of granite, but marking out my bit of granite has served me well. Never before seen a magnetic chuck, but looks super useful for ferrous sheet stock. Thanks for sharing!
Evening, thanks for watching again. I have been thinking about getting a granite chopping board but wasn't sure if it would be any good, but I think I'll get one now, Thanks, ATB Cliff
After watching your video, that mag chuck as you say looks good for the money so I have just purchased the same one. As I only have a mini mill it will fit the bill superbly , good video.
Allo Cliff I bought virtually the identical one a couple of months ago for a tool and cutter/surface grinder that Ive been building. I got mine from Aliexpress and it cost me over a £100 so you got a good deal there mate.
Evening Tony, thanks for watching, how is your one doing, can't imagine there's much to go wrong, other than the mechanism to slide the pole e things! I did think it was cheap, usually you get what you pay for but I am well appy' with this, ATB, Cliff
I haven't used my chuck in anger yet Cliff cause I'm only going to use mine on the grinder when I finish it. I would urge a bit of caution though if your gonna use it on the mill and block your component in really well, only taking the very lightest of cuts.I've been in the game for 50 years and witnessed a few things breaking free from magnetic chucks. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the surface grinder when you start it mate.
This is a granite plate I bought for not too much money. I have no idea what it costs to send it by post to you. It is not a top end stone but it works ok. They have a larger on for about 100$us Best regards Frank
I only ever really used it to "clamp" stuff to the bed of my Taylor Hobson engraving machine, which it worked wonderfully for, never got to try it for milling, and it'll be a while now before I can!😱
I just bought one, possibly from the same point of origin. Looks just like yours. Even the shipping box is the same. Works beautifully. I am happy.

Thanks frank, just had a look and that's next on my list, (unless a cheap bit of s**t comes my way) :-)
thanks again,
Cliff
Looks like you've had a result there Cliff , nice one !!!
I just splashed out 400 quid at an auction and now I have to have one of these, it's the dog house for me!
Looks good Cliff. That's a decent price. Not much to go wrong really. It could be an Eastern block product. Good pickup. Cheers Rob
Cheers Rob, think I got lucky they have put the price up to £80!
I have not of them until now 🤔. Thanks 👌
Are you manufacturing magnetic chuck
Cliff how are you getting on with the magnetic chuck ? Cannot find a video with a follow up .Thinking of buying one !

Did you have to pay import tax or VAT as we are no longer in the EU?
Nice tool!
I'm very happy with it, looks like I had a bit of a result, they have revised them and the price is now £80!!!
FFS, where did it come from, who are they? E-Bay who, been through all the comments no mention of who the seller is, brand name?
Top draw. Any chance of a link Cliff?, I’ll never find it without.
Cheers
Hello the item number is : 223633716758, but they seem to have put the price up to £80! I think I got lucky and may have benefited from a mistake!
Cheers Cliff 👍
So pleased you finally got one Cliff, I’m dead chuffed for ya.
I am sure you are Ian, I have coveted your "big one" you showed us when you got the mill, that wasn't a "scrap" find was it?
Kind of Cliff, work threw out a old surface Grinder, they left the bed on, I scrapped the motor and re-homed the Magnetic Bed
