there have been studies with a longer bloom bringing a better extraction to the cup. Wet WDT also has a lot of weight behind it with extraction tests by the likes of Tim Wendleboe. So perhaps you didn't go too long. :) The Pulsar with the valve allows for playful extraction as well. I am looking forward to this brewer!

I usually do fairly long brews, and love the wet WDT. It’s crazy what it does to the bloom. Need to grab some distilled for my refractometer calibration, but assuming it’s close, got an EY of 27, which is nuts. Usually would taste disgusting. Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. Fantastic!

Finally went on sale on Scott Rao’s site, the last day of August. I bought two, will be fun to experiment using them together on slightly different recipes to taste the differences. Or make two cups at the same time if a guest is visiting

I noticed you don't open the valve completely, is that intentional?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. 90 degree turn is all the way open just as a reference. Some days if it appears to be running a tad quick i can slow things down a bit and its nice to be able to do so.

I’m a V60 guy as well. For you, how will the Pulsar fit into your daily cup? Will it replace the V60? Maybe only use it once in a while? 50/50?

I used a ton when I got it. I could immediately tell it was quite different. Went back to a chemex and V60 after a month only to do a comparison. They are both good but the pulsar is going to give you a much higher extraction coffee. I really find myself grabbing it much more than the other two, not just because of newness but because I do like it. I am one of the guys that likes Chemex. I’ve had bad chemex but if you figure out how to do a great one there’s nothing like it. Some coffees seem to do better in a conical filter just because they excel with lighter extractions. All that said though, you can control the pulsar a lot more than the other so there are other variables to consider. As of late I am about 50/50, usually pulsar at home and V60 at my shop.

@@portakeeper thanks. I have so many different ways of brewing coffee but V60 is my go-to while the others collect dust. I've heard very good things about the Pulsar, especially from Scott Rao who I totally trust, but holding back and checking out reviews like yours before I open the wallet. Last thing I need is another brewer to join the others that are just on display.

Is the pulsar available now? Stands between pulsar or the tricolate brewer.

Machined or cast burrs in the ditting?
