patty was the pioneer actress back in the early days of television. She was very talented and gone too soon.I love the split screens they were seamless!
For me, the quintessential Patty Duke episode--and moment at 8:55 when the song begins. The song fits her perfectly! The great guitarist, James Burton, is at her extreme right (our left side). Patty's singing (3 years later) than her contemporary tv sitcom star, Shelley Fabares, both started to make records only after they became popular on their respective shows: Patty on hers, and Shelley on "The Donna Reed Show." Shelley left her series in 1964 (at 20) to make movies, three with Elvis Presley in consecutive years (1965-67). Shelley boasted a #1 smash hit ("Johnny Angel") in 1962, while Patty could only get to #8 on the pop chart with her "Don't Just Stand There." Shelley celebrated her 78th birthday this past Jan. 19 (2022), while sadly, we lost Patty at only 69, of sepsis, almost six years ago (Mar. 29, 2016). R.I.P., Patty (Dec. 14, 1946 - Mar. 29, 2016).
You sure have good info. I like "Johnny Angel" by Shelley very much. Don't remember Patty's song. I'm 69 and know that Patty Duke passed at this age. I saw her grave on the utube channel "Hollywood Graveyard." It's the last video uploaded in July. Oops, her ashes were scattered around her mother's grave. You probably know that.
To hear Patty singing on the show is real groovy!...The song she sings "Funny little butterflies", only made it to #77 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart back in 1965, but it should've charted MUCH higher in my humble opinion! Thanks so very much for uploading and sharing this classic episode! I thoroughly enjoyed watching! Have a great summer, and Take Care! Miss Elizabeth📟🎧🎵🎤📻🎸💿
@@ricardorojas5045 She did, and I saw that film, with the wonderful Jim Backus as her dad; who was then playing the immortal 'Thurston Howell III' in "Gilligan's Island."
MY Favorite Ep of the series. They show it on TV now the song is cut almost out of it. Only bout a minute of the song there. Glad the full ep still able to watch..Loved it since it 1st aired. Thanks for Uploading this
Her singing of "FLB" used to be by itself on TH-cam, but it seems to be gone now for some reason, leaving only this full episode so others could see how great she was in it.
Every young teen (or pre-teen) boy loved watching her either way in her 3-year series! She was a remarkable actress, multi-talented in both drama and comedy, starting in doing commercials in the late-1950s! Won $32,000 in the second-best prize on "The $64,000 Question" quiz show in 1959 (at only 12) in the category of popular music. And suffering from bi-polar illness for years (until 35 in 1982) without knowing what it was. She helped millions of people with her going public and starting her foundation to help others. We lost a true icon, and a unique performer in so many areas: Broadway, film, tv, and singing. I could not believe it when I heard she died at only 69 on Mar. 29, 2016 (sepsis) from a ruptured intestine. I wish the doctors could have saved her.
The home exterior and interior changed when they transferred taping the show from NY to LA. The *only* part of the set that had no changes was Patty and Cathy's bedroom.
That's not Scottish --- it's a crummy Irish accent. I imagine viewers of the 60's didn't know the difference, which is why they were able to cast Scottish actor Sean Connery as the English James Bond & nobody seemed to notice.
If that's the case, they should have changed the storyline to be that she was Irish, which more Americans could relate to anyway, as a large segment of the population descends from Irish immigrants. They probably figured what the heck --- TV audiences are too ignorant to know the difference anyway; tell them she's Scottish.
Patty wrote in her book that she learned to speak with a Scottish burr before TV production began, but at the last minute, producers decided that they didn't want a specific accent, just an "anywhere but America" sound. So she developed Cathy's unique accent. I guess the idea was that Cathy had grown up traveling all over Europe and Asia with her parents, so she had picked up an international accent.
Patty was so talented. Loved watching her as a singer ❤
I FELL IN LOVE WITH PATTY DUKE WHEN I FIRST HEARD HER SING BUTTERFLIES SONG

She also sang that song in "Billie"(1965)
Groovy!😊outdated slang word!
Far out!

Gotta sell commercials
She is dreamy!!! Love when she sings that song
She really played that dual role flawlessly and I could never make up my mind who I liked her as best, Patty or Cathy.

Both
Thank you..hope you do The Donna Reed episodes
Yes! The earlier seasons.
What about Burns and Allen?
Patty also sang _Funny Little Butterflies_ in movie *Billie*
Love that song
Ross was doing the "Freddie"(flinging his arms and legs up in the air).
Really miss The Patty Duke Show i mean thank you Classic TV Shows
Wow Patty Duke could really sing!
Anna, you were wonderful through it all.
THANKS "Classic TV Shows" por trazer Registrar momentos em que chegava da Escola e assistia esta Série favorita....Thanks
She was so talented I loved her in The Miracle Worker she's awesome in this show ❤
The first time I heard this song, Funny Little Butterfies, "Billie"(1965) film.
That house is on June street in Windsor park near paramount studio gates,a beautiful neighborhood
So much fun to watch these episodes.
Classic TV Shows I like your TH-cam channel.
BY THIS SEASON, the show was revamped, the mother looked like a glamor queen.
A primeira serie que assisti...minha infância querida...bons tempos...
You really were a cute kid then, very talented in comedy timing, very gifted. We miss you Patty.
@11:32...That double really looks and walks like Patty from the rear.
The opening scene with Patty walking down the street and into her house does not look like Brooklyn or the Northeast.
It's Los Angeles. Though in the show they still say it's Brooklyn Heights.
The home exterior and interior changed when they transferred taping the show from NY to LA. The *only* part of the set that had no changes was Patty and Cathy's bedroom.
James Burton on guitar borrowed form Rick Nelson's band same ABC network. Funny how the backup singers and string players are hiding in the closet😁
Did anybody else notice James Burton on guitar, and I think that was Glen Hardin on the keyboard! Anybody recognize the others?
Holy crap! is that James Burton playing that" Tele" ?
Same. Played for both Elvis and Patty. :)
Well.... episode 1 wasn't too bad anyway
Who do you like best Douglas Brothers on My Three Sons or the cousins on The Patty Duke Show?
Both
Was the keyboard player Glen Hardin?
I don’t get why they didn’t credit ross’s character in this season..lol..
@@MrCJ-qz9dl he wasn't credited in the Opening credits last season either
@KristaBrewer-rq7mo Now, at age 72, he's the "last of the Mohicans" to survive.
25:04 John Ross? As in, her manager, John Ross?
Yes, the same one who abused her so cruelly, before she finally told them 'good-bye'.
Well, he makes hotdogs, and they make her lose control, so it;s not all bad...
I also thought of that tie-in with the theme song when it was revealed Howard Records makes hot dogs!
I must say commend the fact that there was very little twerking in this musical episode.
That would have been awesome seeing Patty twerking tbh
There are lots of guests at Monica's house.
Patty quoting Pagliachi in the beginning is so out of character for her. She doesn’t know the first thing about opera. That’s Kathy’s department.
that performance of Henry the 8th i am was kind of terrible. They shouldn't have given her such a difficult song to sing.
That's not Scottish --- it's a crummy Irish accent. I imagine viewers of the 60's didn't know the difference, which is why they were able to cast Scottish actor Sean Connery as the English James Bond & nobody seemed to notice.
