Thank you for posting this. It was a moment I will remember. No studio recording, this was at an outdoor stage of a packed folk festival. Impromptu, Ian beckoned Sylvia to join in part way through. The crowd was thrilled. Couples embrace. Tears were shed. One of the greatest songs of all time.
Thanks for posting. Wonderful to hear them sing together after all the years. Saw Ian and his boys at Campbell River in his last Vancouver Island gig about the same time. Ian grew up near Duncan on Vancouver Island.
It saddens me to hear Ian's voice. He and Sylvia complemented each other through their years together. I was introduced to them in the mid 1960's and never stopped admiring their talent. They sang the songs for the heartland be it either Canada or the U.S. During the folk era, there were few who could match them. I wish them the best through their golden years.
Yes. Ian had such a wonderful, rich voice and superb phrasing. I believe that he blew his voice out at a too-big concert where he had to shout the songs. He's noble here.
I sure love this video. Thank you for sharing. Wonderful to see them together again. I am not interested in seeing performers and don't pay money to see "acts" but would love to see them if they decide to come to SE USA.
I just read a new biography about Ian & Sylvia tilted "Four Strong Winds." It's a great read & I recommend it. At this particular concert, the duet was impromptu, Ian was recovering from a bad virus that damaged his voice, and they hadn't performed together in ages. They're both in the 70s f'hebbensakes. I'm glad to see & hear it - thanks for posting. Now, you kids go listen to one the original recordings and learn why some of us boomers still swoon love Ian & Sylvia after all these years!
I guess you must know that Ian has lost his original voice; it wasn't a virus, but permanent damage to his vocal chords. As for the trouble Sylvia (was it her?) had, can you imagine trying to blend with someone who you had been singing with for decades but whose voice was now irrepairably altered? Give her a break kiddies.
I first heard this song 32 years ago as played by Neil Young. Last year I found out this song is originally sung by IAN & SYLVIA. I still love this beautiful song.abisinanatangcop

and now he is the hoarse whisperer. .. and still the greatest ..
I'd still love to have been there. Sure, he sounds more like latter-day Dylan. But dammit, he's still the Man!
LEGENDS never quit.....
