      Same goes for most any type of education. When I was in college I used to get a couple weeks ahead of the rest of the class so when the class was in session, I could ask very specific questions right in front of the instructor so the entire class would get information. Beats the hell out of waiting a week or two and realizing you are stuck and don't know what to do!

    It's a small thing but it's nice to see Keenan using a white belt to do demonstrations. I've found that bjj has a lot of stigma around rank where, ironically the lower belts get the least attention.

    Very nice. What about sane side cuff grip? This can also be a good guard retention grip, no?

    • @froz3ncat
      @froz3ncat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same-side cuff grip has different pros and cons. In this particular defensive/escape context (someone is passing you, side smash position), it's generally a losing grip because:
      a) You won't be able to extend your arm far enough to force your opponent to overextend
      b) If you try to extend your arm all the way out and roll to your knees to escape, it leads to you turtling with your opponent on top of you. This isn't necessarily bad, but being in turtle with your arm sticking out is pretty risky.
      c) It's easy for the attacker to break your grip, (using their legs is a common method)
      d) If the attacker really likes scarfhold/kesa gatame positions, you're helping them set it up.
      It CAN be a winning grip in this context if you can yoink them off balance and force them to post on the hand you've got gripped, and force a sweep.

    Everything Kennan posts makes it seem like this shit is easy, wrong. The cross grip is a valuable grip but obviously there is so much more going on. And by the way, when your Uke is completely unaware of how a back take or a pass works, then of course your bullshit moves work.
