- Big Van Vader on being told he has 2 years to live!
3 time WCW Champion, 3 time IWGP Champion and legendary former WWE Superstar "Big Van Vader" discusses a serious car accident he was in recently and also talk about a serious heart problem he is suffering from that a heart specialist has told him he has 2 years left to live due to. Vader also discusses his plans to see Diamond Dallas Page in Atlanta on January 2nd. DDP is going to help Vader lose 100 pounds to put less stress on his heart.
(Update March 27 2018: "I wanted to let everybody know that I just spoke to the Surgeon. The surgery was a success but it was worse than we had expected. Long road for recovery. Will keep you posted. Thank you for the prayers.")

I remember when he announced on Twitter that doctors told him he had 2 years to live, I was like "Ok, WWE has to announce he is getting inducted in the 2017 Hall of Fame" when the time came, he wasn't, so I was like "well, perhaps it was too late to add him to that class, they are probably inducting him next year". 2018 came and they announced the lackluster Hall of Fame class and Vader wasn't in, I was mad because everybody knew his situation and that it was better to add him sooner than later so we wouldn't have to see an unnecessary posthumous induction, well, 6 months after the Hall of Fame the man dies, and with that also die my hopes to see the man getting what he deserved, a fair induction and recognition for all of his accomplishments during his amazing career, that's the least WWE could've done after killing the man's popularity and momentum back in 1996. Yet they didn't, once again they disrespected the man and have a deaf ear to the fans.
What makes me mad the most is that they had the chance to induct the man while he was alive, knowing he wouldn't be around much longer, but they didn't, instead they inducted guys like Goldberg (don't take me wrong, he deserved it, but I think guys like Vader earned that spot WAAAY earlier than him).
Vader has a bad rep in WWE for working stiff and legitimately hurting people, I doubt they are going to rush to induct him

Most of the great wrestlers did work a little stiff back in the day. It’s what made it believable. You just make sure you do your best to protect the guy with you but accidents happen.

Apparently he was different in the ring than outside. I met him once years ago and he seemed like a good dude to me.
He did stiff punches and forearms. He just didn’t do fake ass rasslin punches. Terry Funk was the same way. He never hurt anybody working otherwise. But then there was the HBK accident. Unfortunately those 2 things combined hurt his rep.
He was described by many that knew him, and also other wrestlers, that he was like a big teddy bear. Cornette said it was easy to hurt his feelings as Vader was a super sensitive individual.
When death finally comes calling, make him eat THREE Powerbombs. Never give up. And take care of yourself, Leon.

he didnt spend much of his career on wwf but i agree he should still be a hof for his work in the ate 90s
if they only put in people who vince was nice to there would be very few hof members plus everything in ring is acting so being made to call urself a fat piece of shit wouldnt have been taken to hart. do u remember the time when the writers created the plot line to make vinces son in law triple h have sex with a dead body? its all entertainment and heels ar ment to be made fun off
it was hardly a botched match hbk just got angry and in the 90s he had alot of power over the wwf im just saying that vaders work with wcw and as a wwf heel he was very good and should be recognised for it. the wwe isnt all about vince being in the hof is still very prestigious and is the greatest honor in pro wrestling
He didn't die of heart complications, he died of complications from pneumonia. RIP greatest big man

I still miss Vader. When I met him, I met him at an IZW Wrestling. He and Sid Vicious have been my favorite two pro wrestlers.
What an amazingly well mannered person. Seeing Big Van Vader speak has really made me respect him so much more. He's a great example for many of the other legends who tend to open their mouths and ruin their legacy by being so foul. God when he was Vader he absolutely terrified me as a kid. Such a great heel and just a badass dude in the ring. After seeing this he looks and seems like a sweetheart grandpa. Wish you all the luck Vader....

You shoulda seen Paul Burchill back on the British scene, he’s a big man and even bigger back then and would do a standing shooting star press as well as standing moonsaults on the spot. And they weren’t moves he’d take a few seconds to time you know how performers do, he’d be stood and instantly pull it off. Insane for a big man

His weight was something that the WWF personal took seriously when he was there. They had him go to a specialist but he only went a certain amount of times. I think his problem was that he continued to ignore it. Even now. He said "I don't think I'm fat I'm just big" It seems like that attitude is now doing him in. Yoko also had that attitude. I hope everything turns out ok for him. A man of his size who is both very athletic and be a beast in the gym at the same time deserves better.

In Japan they like anybody big in stature or weight because they are so small.

Timothy Holland yes he is. he helped Scott Hall, Jake the snake, Mick Foley, Foley's daughter, fluffy, goldust, and even helped AJ styles with a injured so that he could debut at the Royal Rumble. that's why AJ was walking to the ring because he had little pain in the leg but he could do the match.

But still...he doesn't really know. This happens all the time, especially with terminal diagnoses. A doctor will say, "well, you have six weeks to live," and then the patient will make it another 5 years. Now, 5 years may not seem like a long time, but when you've been given a terminal diagnosis, 5 years is an eternity.

Well... Not that I don't trust them but I take a lot of it with a grain of salt because one's own well-being and health is arbitrary when you think about it.

What a legend. No wrestler used to terrify me more as a kid in the 90's than Vader, would never have suspected that he would come across like such a softie and lovely guy. Still so saddened WWE didn't put him in the HOF while he was still alive, I remember Mick Foley saying it meant so much to him to hopefully get that recognition one day, it's sad he never lived to see it.
my friend was told his heart had less than 2 years left, he died that same night in a car wreck 3 weeks ago, he was just. 41. I think him knowing how bad it was played a part
