      Other directors know they cannot compare, they are like Salerari*(sorry ,spelling) from Mozart, totally jealous

    Disney needs to hire Baz to a live action adaptation of their movies

    Totally agree, he is original but also nostalgic (does that make sense) . Baz Lurmann films are at times an exhaustive ride that fills you up with adrenaline .That is cinema, an experience, a vacation into another world that when it is over you at first are silent and then whoosh , like getting off a roller-coaster, breathless , happy, laughing, crying , and you look up at the sky and murmur* WOW!

    I’m surprised Bad Lurhmann wasn’t even considered to adapt Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera into screen. Sure, modern music wouldn’t really fit Webber’s rigorous music style. But all the other elements were there. The hyper realism, dramatic costumes forbidden love. People already watched the stage musical, so the ending would hardly be spoilt. And I’m sure Lurhmann is great at using cinema in adapting a stage musical.

      Phantom directed by Baz Luhrmann would’ve been such a treat! He definitely would have reinvigorated the source material to something unique and fun!

      @@chinomatography I could see why Lord Andy wouldn't have considered Baz though. Baz likes to change things up like using modern music and amping up the absurdity of a situation. Andy is somewhat of a over-protective when it comes to adaptations of his work. I don't think Bas would want to be limited in that way.

    i think you nailed it with the comparison between Luhrmann and David Lynch, both are auteurs with a distinctive vision and a storytelling that can be perfectly described as immersive and that's what makes them captivating

    Thank you for this. I also watch a lot of films from the 40s and 50s and although knew they sang contemporary despite a setting in the 1800s, I never correlated it with Baz. Thank you for opening my eyes to Baz. I love his Elvis film btw

    Thank you so much for this. I’d always loved his Romeo and Juliet, but I knew who the director was. And thinking back that’s really weird because I always want to know that. His Elvis movie is kind of flipped me out. I now read and watch everything I can about Elvis. I was also awed by what Austin did in the performance specifically the massive preparation and going through some sort of portal into inhabiting a version of someone else. I don’t know if that makes sense. I don’t consider myself a cinephile this video and my tendency to obsess over certain films makes me interested in learning more and embracing that. I appreciate that fearlessness. It can be so hard to tell stories right now. Sometimes I don’t think people understand that human beings are complex, and you have to look at the totality of their lives and not destroy them for bad things that they may have done. I had no idea about what Elvis was, and did in the world. The moment he was a part of and transformed. It’s so crazy to me when I see you read things that say well this movie got certain specific things wrong or incorrectly and I just think holy shit it’s a movie! What is the story that is being told and like you said, how is it being told it makes it beautiful and powerful. I don’t know what I’m saying here but there’s just something about that space that world that basin is other artist create that I am so intrigued by I think that it’s something that I’m missing in a lot of our lives and his films bring up that once and loss, while your brain gets to go on a dmt trip. Anyways thanks for this post I subscribed and I’m gonna look for more of your stuff.

    I don’t know if it’s just me, but I see so much similarities between Austin Butler and James Dean as an actor. Do you see the similarities too? I feel in terms of acting range he could be the next Dean. I also did a video on my TH-cam channel discussing this. Please feel free to check it out if you get a chance

    • @chinomatography
      @chinomatography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally don’t see the similarities, but only because Butler hasn’t really had the opportunity to stretch his dramatic wings on screen yet. Hopefully, after the success of ELVIS, he’ll have more opportunities to do so. :)
