      @@musicpolyglot I really like the song Betsy by Billie Marten. Maybe you can take a look. It’s so great that you make tutorials about smaller artists. Keep up your great work!

    Amazing! Thank you. What about how the guys are playing at her npr desk is it possible to do a breakdown of the chords and what the right hand is doing?

    • @musicpolyglot
      @musicpolyglot  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      That’s top level playing by those two guys. They’re mostly not playing chords. Those parts are so sophisticated that they’re not something you learn note for note but rather how they’re thinking and what material they’re using to create their parts.

      Thanks for your comment, my videos are guitar part only tutorials, but they are accurate and complete so you can use them as a starting place to build a full instrumental version. Good luck!

    Great tutorial, thanks! One comment though, when you refer to chords, you are showing the incorrect chordnames. For example, the first chord -because of the capo- is not a Cmaj13, it is a Dmaj13. It is the right shape, but not the right chord. This makes it confusing and technically incorrect. But again, thanks for the great tutorial with this beautiful song(and artist)!

      hey Frank, thanks for taking the time to comment and address this recurring misunderstanding. On guitar, when you use a capo, we don't use concert pitch to refer to notes and chords, we take the capo as if it were fret 0 and use shapes to refer to chords, which is the very first thing I go to pains to explain as soon as i start talking at minute 2:27, I talk explicitly about the D chord and why we call it C when we have capo II, if you watch the video this will be clear to you. So the chords are indeed correct as per music convention. Hope this helps.

      @@musicpolyglot I have seen the video, when you talk about chord shapes you are correct, but when you talk about chords, you should name the chord correctly, otherwise you would not be able to play with other musicians in a band or group.

      I hear what you say and can understand that you may think we should name chords by their concert pitch. In practice though, guitarrists don't, we refer to their transposed names when we talk about them, and after fighting the convention for years myself, i have come to understand why it makes it much easier to do it the conventiional way, you'll find most professional guitarrist will follow this convention too or will have a really hard time communicating. When you play with other musicians, that means you are a musician yourself who can play for real and you are expected to be able to name chords in concert pitch for your keyboard player and bass player, but no need amongs guitarist, it just makes things harder than they already are ;)
