    White panpastel powdered with some drops of oms is also a very good way to work your highlights and thin lines. I can't see why wouldn't that be lightfast as well. I cant order from the Brush and Pencils sites here in Finland, so gladly I was lucky to see this method. :) That owl is a beauty!

    Oh this is an absolutely beautiful drawing of an owl Lisa 😊 I did laugh at the beginning with the crime scene and chalk outline of the camera 😂😂 I actually had no idea that brush and pencil did a powder blender, I need to try this out! I definitely need that pen to test my papers because I’ve had papers that said they were acid free and then yellowed. Thank you Lisa!

    Oh man! I really liked UART paper but I have to say that looking at the back it looks like ordinary sandpaper from the hardware store and now I know it might be just as archival 😆 well, now I don't feel guilty using it for non permanent work or cheap pencil reviews.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Soooo...about that. I've heard from an "inside source" that it actually is just the same stuff they sell to the hardware stores. They deny this but one of their own employees told someone I know very well that this is all it is. They aren't really as focused on the art world as it would seem. Of course this isn't proof of anything but between hearing that, then seeing this...makes you really question it huh?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lachri it really does! I mean it feels and looks the same as sandpaper if equivalent grit. Well, I guess I can go to Harbor Freight and save a ton of money! Although I am kinda bummed I've been saving this paper for best and only using half a sheet at a time. Time to experiment and use it up I guess 😆

    Hi Lisa,
    I have struggled so much with the textured fixative! I’ll have to try the trick with only pushing the top down halfway. When you use the fixative do you anyways go over the whole piece or do you only do the area you are working on?

  • @kdcraft89

    Could you use gessoed wood panels? They would stay more rigid than gessoed watercolor paper, so you wouldn't have to worry about flexing them, etc.

    Question about this paper testing pen ... I've been searching amazon now but all I got are these money testing pens that some use to see if you've got fake money or if it is real ... Are these those pens or do I need to look somewhere else? I would really love to have this tool.

    Brush and Pencils company doesn't ship internationally. On the Jackson Arts website, the Touch-up texture and Texture fixative are both considered hazardous and they won't ship to my destination in Canada. But they will ship the pencil color powder blender and the Titanium white powder. Do I really need the Touch-up texture and texture fixative if I can't get them? Is there any point just getting the powder blender and Titanium white powder without the other supplies?

  • @WildPortraitArtist
    @WildPortraitArtist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    yikes, that's worrying about the UArt. I've had quality issues with that brand before regarding the sanded surface texture, and I have definitely noticed 5 years on that artworks I did using it have definitely deteriorated - I wonder if that is because of acid leeching from the back of the paper?

    I was watching one of your older videos and you were talking about using the Mona Lisa odorless paint thinner with your pencils. How are you using that are you letting it dry before you continue with a pencil or using it wet? I assume it’s touching your skin if it’s wet? I don’t know I heard it was dangerous. Do you still use that method or do you find it not necessary now? Thanks for your help ,I enjoy your videos.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always let it dry, but it has never caused any reaction when I've wiped my hands down with it. I use it when I oil paint so sometimes it gets on my hands then.

    I tried lux archival and found it to be so rough. Did I get a bad batch? Or maybe I stopped too soon. I would love to use it, as uses 100 % rag.

    • @heidid2346
      @heidid2346 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because of all the rave reviews I also tried Lux. I didn’t like it at all so likely you didn’t get a bad batch. Sometimes things just appeal to one person more than another. I ended up giving mine away for other artists to try and ironically they didn’t like it either. I won’t mention names because they are well known on YT too.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sanded paper is very rough compared to HP watercolor paper and the like. It takes some getting used to for sure. In comparison to the fisher 400 or uart 500 I used to use, it's about the same if not smoother. I only use sanded paper when I'm blending with powder blender or using pan pastels as an underpainting.
