    Oooh... You have my attention. "Reminiscent of old North Port" !! I have had , over the years 3 North Port bottles (21,24 and 26 years old). An oft remembered favourite. I also have the 15 year old Glencadam which I bought due to it being Ralfy's whisky of the year. I will try and track down the 21 yo. :) Thanks again for your whisky wisdom Ralfy.

    First time I tried Glencadam when was during my roadtrip through the UK, when I bought a bottle of Glencadam 13 in Edinburgh a few years ago. Until this date, Glencadam is one of my favorite brands, together with Glenmorangie. Both very good in their own ways, totally different from eachother.

    Ralfy,
    In your review of Chivas 12 many moons ago (no 88) you said that The Chivas Bros were grocers and brought out this brand in 1801. It may not surprise you today but Chivas Bros (James and John) was never associated with Chivas Regal IN ANY MANNER. Chivas Bros was established in 1857 and lasted till 1893. Chivas Regal was a 25 YO luxury blend, the oldest in the world, crafted in 1909 in memory of James and John Chivas by new owners Alexander Smith and Charles Howard, also their Master Blender. It made its debut in the USA.
    Chivas Regal went out of circulation after WW I and Prohibition, but was born again in 1939, in, you guessed it right, the USA.

      @@prestonw3878 I think both are really good too - I have bought the 15 years ago for quite a low price and found the 10 now in Italy for less than what tje cheapest offer is now in Germany in any Shop or even on Ebay.
      Prices here are exploding for Springbank for a while already and yet even more so since this war between Russia and Ukraine -inflation is driving it up as well.
      So maybe get one or two bottles of the 15 more than you normally would do -they will rise significantly I suppose

    Ralfy. Have you tried the Glencadam 18? I was thinking of buying this but havent seen any reviews. I am a huge fan of the 15. I am never without it in the cabinet. I loved my first bottle of Glencadam 21 and bought another bottle here in Israel at a greatly inflated price only to be rather disappointed. It was very nail polish spirity even with water. Never really improved even near the end of the bottle. I still have an unopened bottle in the cupboard.

      @welshtoro3256 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 21 is a lovely dram but I'm not sure it's better than the 15. These days I prefer it to the 21 but it is quite a bit more expensive. Nevertheless, it has crossed the barrier and become a mature whisky and it is a very good price for such a thing.

      @@welshtoro3256 Agreed, the 21 yo shows a gain concerning complexity and body. Concerning the core characteristics it remains a very similar malt, though. I think, the 15yo is the more drinkable malt, slightly less demanding and less full bodied, and only costs 60,-€ in comparison to 110,- € for the 21yo.

      Many people are saying this. Hola my Glencadam companion. Much as I love the 15, a Ralfy whisky of the year, I now believe I prefer the 21. It's just ironed out that tiny oak bitterness of the 15 and has become an undeniably lovely mature whisky for a great price. I see the news in Israel my friend so please stay safe and sensible. All the best. WT

    • @RebMordechaiReviews
      @RebMordechaiReviews 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@welshtoro3256 Funny you should mention the Glencadam 21 my dear friend. I was just having a conversation with Distillery manager Douglas Fitchett and saying that his own marketing team are writing that the 21 has dark fruits (which I don't get at all) and many reviewers state on their page that it's matured in both ex-sherry and Bourbon casks..Despite this, Douglas assures me that the 10,13,15,18 and 21 are all exclusively matured in Ex-Bourbon hogsheads. So what's all this marketing about dark fruits?

    • @welshtoro3256
      @welshtoro3256 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RebMordechaiReviews I'm very pleased to get that confirmation from the distillery via you. It displays all the characteristics of mature ex-bourbon and why on earth would they want to mess it up with a pointless dollop of ex-sherry? Tasting it, as I write I get the usual white fruit such as Spanish white peach, mature dried apricot, vanilla custard and pineapple. No dark fruit for me. I'm noticing a trend in online sales of sherry bombs selling out fast so the usual idiocy. If Glencadam keep the 21 at the £100 point it will be in my cellar. I think we are both long time supporters of this great distillery. Cheers. WT

    I know this is very naughty Ralfy, particularly because this comment doesn't pertain to this video, but I have been watching your back-catalogue. I'm a complete whisky virgin, but have experience of rum. However, I am afraid to say that the quality of the rums I have drank in the past is poor - and never neat. I got some of Wray & Nephew Overproof White Rum, as I saw it in one of your older videos. I wanted to ask your opinion on the way I am drinking it. It is much stronger than other spirits I have had in the past, and the first time drinking anything neat (or near-neat, as my case may be). I've added 25ml of that rum to 25ml filtered water, with a teaspoon of sugar. It really takes the edge off and makes it palatable for my inexperienced taste-buds. Is this naughty and grossly offensive? The reason why I did this is because I almost died drinking it on its own, even with a drop of water. Any advice on how to get used to these very strong flavours would be most appreciated, as I have a list of 'beginners whisky' to try (as recommended by you), but am afraid of it if this rum is hard to stomach without sugar!

    • @jezzermeii
      @jezzermeii 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing I will say is that it's amazing to be able to taste some individual flavours in a rum - and more than one! Loads of banana and citrus, versus the syrupy and bland taste of standard white 'rum' and the strong vanilla of most spiced rums.
