De Leeuw is not only a dutch conductor but one of the most important European musicians. In my opinion. Look at his marvelous Ligeti recordings. And in my youth we loved his unique Satie interpretation.

Great piece! Beautiful brass also. Sound a bit like Shostakovich to me. Btw: This is recorded in Vredenburg in Utrecht, not in Amsterdam!

Pour ce coup de cœur nous avons choisi un chant cosaque qui fait partie du répertoire de l'atelier de polyphonie Malinka et sera le chant pour l'ouverture du concert du 18 mars.
Un vieux chant cosaque à propos de leur célèbre seigneur de guerre Stépan Razine qui parle de son mauvais rêve prémonitoire un drame.
Cette chanson est née en XVII siècle, sa première version écrite est notée dans le recueil d’Alexandre et Vladimir Jeleznov « Chants des cosaques d’Oural » (1899) sous le nom de « Razine rêve », cette version est enregistrée dans les années 1880 auprès d’un vieux cosaque de 75 ans.
Depuis, les paroles n’ont presque pas changé, contrairement à la musique : il existe de nombreuses mélodies créées entre XVII siècle et notre temps.

Finalement ses œuvres "officielles" sont plus intéressantes que ses "grandes oeuvres" ultérieures.
En quoi écrire la 16e symphonie de Chostakovitch est-il intéressant ? Sauf si vous êtes adepte du pastiche...

I have the DVD, and the original looks the same incorrect way.
Shes completly influenced by shostokovich in this piece
The composer made some pretty nasty remarks about Shostakovich and his music in her later life about how she didn't like him or his music...a little funny considering how obvious his influence is on her early output, particularly in this piece.
1) Her real "early output” was completely different - see Sonata No 1.
2) This poem was a commissioned work (in those years everyone had to have them).
Of course, she wanted to sell it, and so she was guided by the social realist style, which was popular then.
3) All Soviet music was similar to Shostakovich's because those were times of social realism in art. Still, her Poems stand out clearly.
3) Ustvolskaya did not include this work in the first version of her catalogue. She was persuaded to include it later.
I can't help,but this is awkward.
