The guitar solo in Highway Star is one of my all time favorite guitar solos. I'm glad the new guy plays it so accurately.

He plays it brilliantly and adds his own bit at the end too

Band sounds fantastic, but it's both great and terrible to see a legend like Gillan struggling with the song he could so superbly sing in the 70s. Kudos to him for trying, lots of resepect as a fan but this is not necessary. Someone needs to suggest either to pitch the song down a tone or two or either skip it altogether. Of course they are entitled to do whatever they want!

It's hard on these singers once they get to a certain age, the range and power isn't there even though the core voice sounds similar on the easier/lower stuff. It doesn't matter, everyone there will have had a great time. Ian sounds the equivalent of Brian Johnson on AC/DC's current tour in the way I've described. Well done to these guys for trying rather than cheating or giving up certain songs (though I wish AC/DC would drop some of their harder to sing ones).

Agree but i feel that Deep Purple also should drop some of the harder songs to sing. Ian still has a quite enjoyable mid-range and can still sound very good. You can cleary see that on the newer songs, more adjusted to his current vocal condition (and age), but stuff like Highway Star is too much, he's now having a hard time doing the verses as well, not just the screaming parts

@@JohnnyTheMechanicyes it is. but it breaks your heart to see this. time has flown. and remember that younger singers could never do it in young age. that's life. you cannot climb 8a at 78 years old. Great courage.

That said, im grateful i got to see DP live at all. Its natural that Ian cant sing like he did "back then". Doesnt mean i didnt have the time if my life being able to see DP live

Gillian is a legend as is Deep Purple, his vocals will go down like Rob Halford’s, but the new audience is not hearing the same guy as I grew up to ( I am 69) , obviously it is not for the money, time to enjoy life with family and friends . You deserve it my friend. Peace and Love and thanks for all the great tunes like the LP “In Rock” “Machine Head” “Fireball” “Made in Japan “etc etc, I still play those on my Turntable and they still sound as good as when I heard them in my teens.

I would recommend listening to the Made In Japan album to anyone who hasn't heard it. You can truly appreciate Ian's strong voice and fantastic playing by the rest of the band. One of the best live albums ever in my opinion..

He still sounds good on the new material, it’s not a shame to drop the classics a couple of tones so he’d be actually able to rich it and it’ll still sound good. Highway Star instead of G key simply E

Ian Gillan sounds good singing the newer material, but for these old classic they have got to tune down. He is clearly straining and not reaching many notes.

Ian Gillan's lost his "screaming"vocal chords , just like Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull is searching for his ... Let it be... the bands are great, but yeah.. I have an enormous sympathy for those bands, really. Let someone else sing the heavy parts then...

I´m sorry to say this, but this is horrible...
A band sounding like in their 20´s but Gillan is definetly done for extensive touring...
And maybe someone should tell them about at least tuning down from E to D in his favor...
And maybe also one too many boosters...
