Husband, 78 years old has Cirrhosis non\alcoholic. Now has portal vein and hepatic vein with thrombosis very low platelets so no anticoagulant given risk of bleeding. No nephrologist around. Released from ER waiting on my TO doctor to give me an appt to follow up
I was diagnosed with thrombosis after a gastric sleeve surgery. Spent 7 days in the hospital, discharged with Coumadin and plavix.. I was healthy and now my life was in extreme danger.
54 male: almost complete blockage but no complications. No identifiable cause, dollar ultrasound, CT and Xray plus blood, stool and urine samples. Treatment is with thinners, but not idea what to expect after discharge or what to do/not to do. Is 7 days in hospital enough time to be released and what happens if the clot breaks loose?
If the blood thinners don’t work you will develop cirrhosis of the liver bc oxygen yo the liver can’t get pass the clot. Ascites comes, stomach will fill up with fluid they have to drain . It’s extremely painful my daughters flaired up. You’ll loose iron so you have to get iron infusions often, bowel blockage etc . Be aggressive about the clot very aggressive with the doctors. She had it 4-5 years and they didn’t say she had non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver until she caught 🦠 it did her body bad . So much pain they had to induce a coma She passed away la💔💔💔🥀😓😓😓st Sunday 2-05-2023
my father 71 had portal vein thrombus from almost a year and is on anticoagulants. No symptoms or pain as now. tests show clot near helium with little flow withen portal vain. What is the best treatment to remove the clot.
I am unable to provide individual patient advice. In general, in a chronically occluded portal vein attempts to remove the clot are not indicated because the portal vein flow has formed alternative channels as described in my video. There is no risk at this time of bowel gangrene.
I’ve recently been diagnosed with portal hypertension with my liver score based at 10. I have not been restricted to a diet or bold thinners an not been told where an if it can be in blocked. Going back to Dr in July 2022 any help or advise us appreciated.
This video is on acute portal vein thrombosis which can be a life threatening situation. Portal hypertension (elevated pressure in the portal venous system) may arise due to liver disease, chronic portal vein thrombosis or less commonly other causes. It is best to discuss your particular situation with your healthcare provider who may advise better. Good luck!

Portal vein thrombosis without cirrhosis is a kind of presinusoidal blood flow obstruction and to my information doesn't lead to ascites. Can you please explain. Thank you.
