Welcome to the wonderful pre Nightwish Floor Jansen my good Sir !!!! After I rediscovered Nightwish with Floor, I turned my gaze towards Floor's past bands, and After Forever is a true Gem (Of course I acquired All Studio albums, Compilation albums, EPs and Singles ). After Forever was a Dutch symphonic metal band with strong progressive metal influences. The band relied on the use of both soprano vocals and death growls. In February 2009, it was announced that After Forever had disbanded. Singer Floor Jansen and keyboardist Joost van den Broek both collaborated again in ReVamp and Star One, before Jansen eventually joined Nightwish as lead singer in 2013. Former rhythm guitarist Mark Jansen founded Epica in 2002 after his departure from After Forever and, in 2010, founded MaYaN, which included former After Forever members Sander Gommans and Jack Driessen. Floor Jansen has appeared as a session or live vocalist for both Epica and MaYaN. Thank you for this banger reaction Eric !!! NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘
You should check early After Forever which was like a prototype of Epica thanks to the influence of Mark Jansen Songs like Follow in the Cry, Monolith of Doubt, My Pledge of Allegiance Part 1 and Intrinsic are great show of this
From what I understand, at one point they were an opener for Nightwish - so it's fun that you mentioned that you wouldn't want to follow them. They don't have to anymore!
Hey Eric , your missing out on the best performances of Floor with AfterForever & ReVamp : After Forever - Dreamflight Live ProgPower USA VIII (2007 After Forever - My Pledge of Allegiance #1 (Live Die Zillo Festival 2004) After Forever live in Bibelot 2003 - Intrinsic - Vilin Music After Forever - Monolith Of Doubt Live At Kopspijkers (2002 Even with a fan made phone recording this is MIND BLOWING,just imagine if it was professionally recorded : ReVamp...21-02-2014...Effenaar Eindhoven( Misery No Crime) Floor continued with ReVamp til 2015 while with NW
The band was formed in 1995 by Mark Jansen (now Epica band) and Sander Gommans (the 2 guitarists) and was called Apocalypse. They covered Iron Maiden and The Cult. Floor joined in 1997. She was considered a soprano but had not taken any singing lessons at the time of her 1st album (Prison of Desire). At first she would be a backing vocalist. The band decided that she should be part of the band and the name would change to After Forever (Black Sabbath song). First demo was from 1999 and in April 2000 they released their first album. In 2001 came Decipher, the 2nd album that surpassed the 1st. On this album came the tour with Nightwish and Tuomas Holoppainen was enchanted by Floor's vocals. Sander and Floor are dating and writing songs separately from Mark and decide to fire him. The band started Symphonic Metal with doom (some confuse it with gothic) and death. Floor is tired of saying that they are not gothic at all and I believe that this contributed to Mark's dismissal. Floor and Sander wanted something more metal and less dark. Then they begin to include aspects of industrial metal and even pop in their songs. Some start to call the band progressive due to the great use of keyboards. Sander had to stop activities due to burnout. The relationship with Floor ended and Sander wanted to play another style of music. This is how the band ends.
As usual, a total and articulate reaction. I totally get where you are coming from. Floor manages to combine her safe and humble offstage persona with the confident front woman you see on stage. A bad ass that doesn’t need to be overbearing or obnoxious. Even at a young age you could see her star quality.
Always great to see you revisit Floor's infamous flight of stairs, Eric. What you need to know abt After Forever, you ask? Simply this: "After Forever - Dreamflight Live ProgPower USA VIII (2007)". Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Fun fact, the keyboardist for After Forever from 2004 until their breakup in 2009 was Joost van den Broek. He's also Arjen Anthony Lucassen's right-hand man and has worked on every Ayreon album since 2004. I believe Joost was also heavily involved in the production of the live Ayreon shows in the past 6 years. But even with all his talent, Joost is still a LUL. 😂

This song was released 5 years after that White Zombie song, perhaps they may of been influenced by White Zombie reminds me how Nightwish is partly influenced by Metallica and how much they like the band. It's even funnier to know some members of Iron Maiden like Nightwish like Steve Harris mentioned on a few occasions.
I remember Steve loved the band but didn't get the Tarja attraction, the vocals rubbed him wrong and he stated in 2008 that the new singer was a better fit when Dark Passion Play came out....
Nightwish played Montreal in May 2022 to a small theater style house of 2300. Small stage, Kai was tucked into a back corner on the back riser they were using on the last tour. Audience up close within a couple feet of the stage, no big screen, or pyro, floors vibrating from the bass, but great concert in an Intimate setting, including the Accoustic version of Hows the Heart.
This song should have been a massive hit back in the day. Still think one of the best radio bangers Floor has ever sung. All the great things the music industry denies from us..
The keyboard player is Joost van den Broek, and you have already seen him in some Ayreon videos…and he has collaborated with Floor in some solo stuff as well…
Thank you. Great song! It's from the 5th and last Album 2007 ( they just change to Nuclear blast) This song and Energise me are a little bit more mainstream. But the album includes all the different styles they did since 1998 If you want to see her 5 years earlier live on TV you will fall in love with her much harder, if it's possible😂 th-cam.com/video/3TmKHkQx45U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KPBEh5hjk_xTlBZA Floor startet singing in this band when she was 16 years old as backing vocal. One year later she became the front lady ( without having any vocal lessons before). When she was 18 they recorded there first album.
Even back then, she had that commanding stage presence. I really need to dig into After Forever and ReVamp. Eric, you really need to check this one out!
There was a time in the early 2000s when the band that followed After Forever was Nightwish. This was Floor’s first band, which she joined as a teenager in the mid-1990s. They toured Europe opening for Nightwish for a time before eventually disbanding in 2009 after one member experienced an extensive illness. This song was from their last album, released in 2007. The keyboard player was Joost Van Den Broek, who Floor met while working on Arjen Lucassen’s Star One project. Joost is now a big time producer, as well as being the live keyboardist and music director for the Ayreon live shows you’ve reacted to.
Great reaction! Interesting how you "see" her in colours. I cannot see in this way but when listening to her singing and watching her great stage presence the world seems to become a better place even when she sings about nasty things (like internet trolls etc.).
I let the others come to you with all the info and details that one needs to know. For one because I'm still learning and then also because why write everything 10 times if it's there already :) Loved the reaction, it's always a delight to watch Nightwish/Floor and related reactions :D I know you did "Invincible" from her solo album, but I don't think any other songs from there? So I personally would love to see a reaction to "Armoured Wings" from Floor's solo album!!! I think it's a song that kinda flies under the radar just because all the songs are so good and there are songs like "Invincible" and others that might steal the spotlight, but it's THE song from the album that like hit me the most, can't even say way, but I feel so connected to it!!! So yeah, for your consideration "Armoured Wings" by Floor Jansen.😊
I think After Forever headlined their own shows, but I have heard they opened for Nightwish on some of their older tours. I doubt Tarja had trouble following Floor in concerts.
That's right. Saw them in 2002 and it was just stupid fun all around. No trouble at all, far from it. NW didn't mind at all when After Forever's guitarist Bas Maas took tt stage and grabbed the mic, while AF's drummer André joined in on guitar! Dutch guys & gal literally dwarfed the Finns is one thing I vividly remember. Musically, I thought that back then After Forever showed more promise than NW who had Tarja's operatic vocals as the thing that really stood out from the otherwise still pretty straightfwd power metal.
I don't know if you are joking but Floor was joking in that video that she is 2 meters and 60 centimeters tall which is 8.5 feet. Floor is 183cm tall which is 6 feet.
Seems like my comment was deleted, but I highly recommend you to keep going with Face Your Demons, is a fun, and slightly creepy song Floor has performed on her solo tours
One has to recognize Floor's talent indeed, even at such a young age. But don't forget about Mark Janssen, who - as I believe - composed the music for the band, just like he usually does now for Epica.
No, this is from their fifth album. Mark Jansen left after the second. The lyrics are by Floor and Joost and Sander wrote the music and the producer was Groothedde. Joost and Mark were never in After Forever the same time. Isn't Joost van den Broek the producer for Epica now? Its a small world indeed.
Thanks for your reaction...
Makes it apparent why Tuomas wanted Floor in his band!

Yes Eric. This is Floor. In her 20y or now in her 40y.

We need you as a master of music! You're an exemple for the States who can analize good music on its merites. Thanks you Eric!

Thanks! I reccommend After Forever 'Monolith of doubt' live at kopspijkers. Don't mind the audience, it was a talkshow.
Indeed, very tasteful video, I love the black/white and sometimes light brown as in old faded photographs (silver sulfide formation)
She is The One and Only
Godess Floor 💜
Thanks for reaction
Appreciated 🙏

I concur 😊
I concur. Floor's Dog and Wolf are the dual sides of her personality. Live shows feed her wolf and make it very happy.
Always great to see you revisit Floor's infamous flight of stairs, Eric. What you need to know abt After Forever, you ask? Simply this: "After Forever - Dreamflight Live ProgPower USA VIII (2007)". Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
I concur!
I concur! But also "Monolith of Doubt' live at 'Kopspijkers' is a must.
@@willem_stapper I co-concur re: "Monolith of Doubt".

ICC, Floor Performance fits the "Stair Scenario". Kind + Aggressive, Leather + Lace, Ying and Yang, Mother and Warrior.
wolf and dog is how she puts it, they are tattooed behind her ears
Something in Floor's voice just unexplainable, and it hits me like a speeding train.

Great reaction thanks. You can easily go through all the new tunes that Floor has dropped!
I love this AF song. Very powerful. Love the dramatic dynamic that leads into the chorus. The tender Floor explodes into the savage metal queen.

such a heavy metal force to be reckoned with
This song should have been a massive hit back in the day. Still think one of the best radio bangers Floor has ever sung. All the great things the music industry denies from us..
After hearing this, I've never been so thankful for Tuomas H. and his compositions.
Good to see you going back a bit Eric, thank you.
(BTW, Floor is 183cm which is almost exactly 6')

Having Floor as the opening act is the equivalent of standing next to the male supermodel?
🤘😆🤘
What Tomas was is George in Holland.
Sir Joost van den Broek on keys 🎹🔥🤘
Thank you sir
Inderdaad, a very beautiful video
After Mark Jansen(Epica) was fired, After Forever was Floor’s band!
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done again Eric
Winterland ‘75.
I concur! Great rock sound, and thinking she was early 20’s at this point maybe?

My guess.
We get an After Forever gig!
In the Netherlands but I hope worldwide!
I concur!
In this case.
It’s George Eric.

I saw an interview with floor and she said she was 2 meters 60 and that is 6ft 5 inches. I really enjoy your reactions and your voice.
I don't know if you are joking but Floor was joking in that video that she is 2 meters and 60 centimeters tall which is 8.5 feet. Floor is 183cm tall which is 6 feet.
A great singer of course but her biggest talent may be her stage presence, which is why her live performances are always better than the studio music.
Seems like my comment was deleted, but I highly recommend you to keep going with Face Your Demons, is a fun, and slightly creepy song Floor has performed on her solo tours
Did you doe a Golden EARRING GIG Eric?
No?
