    The doves recognize that their predator's talons are tied up. The hawk is not in hunting mode.

      The doves were alert from the moment the cooper's hawk came into the general area. They were watching everything. Morbid attraction.

    The prey was a fledgling, not an adult bird.

    Cooper's hawk catching a sparrow? Wow, what precision and what eyes! Thanks for sharing and seeing up close what a Cooper's Hawk looks like, subbed to a TH-camr who lives in upstate NY, and a video he took in August of this year, he points his camera in the direction of a tall tree with 3 of these hawks in it! But those images were of li'l white dots in a sea of dark green leaves.:)

    Awesome video, wow! Dealing with Coopers and Sharpie now hunting my birds. I have amazing footage too, video of a Sharpie and a European Starling eye to eye literally, and that Starling wasn't going easy or quietly, it was epic battle till the end - the circle of life. And I was right there with camera and video and that hawk did not care at all. It was sad to hear the screams from bird I love them, heart shaped bellies on the Starlings. So I didn't get much sleep - but circle of life! Love my backyard birds and squirrels - wildlife is the BEST!

    I am not sure but it almost looks like a Goshawk or maybe a big Sharp-shinned... although I think it’s too big. The eyes don’t look very Cooper Hawk like, very large and forward facing. Other than that in this they are pretty hard to differentiate, there are other things like shape of tail feathers etc
    I am by no means positive, it is definitely one of the 3 beautiful Accipiters. They are all amazing birds and very closely related and are also constantly confused for one another by all 😎👍🏼

      Trust me, that hawk ended up coming to my yard on a super regular basis. I named her Naida. Definitely, 100% a Cooper's hawk. I have a million photos of her.

      rava67 After I looked at it better I could see the Cooper Hawk and I agree it is Coopers; it has Hackles, and the size is a right. I wasn’t feeling so good that day, I could really tell after I read my comment because a Goshawk has a different breast 😳

    That poor birdie has no meat, only feathers and tiny bones. Hawk should catch field mice or clean up the roads from road kill. So sad.😥

    • @rava67
      @rava67  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      West Tucson. I have figured out since posting this that this is actually a girl. She hangs out in my yard a lot on summer days while she's teaching her babies to hunt (and does hunting demonstrations for them using my feeder birds as target practice). It's really cool to get to see so much of her for several months a year!
