The Rig Veda has 10,552 mantras grouped into 1028 suktas or hymns each having roughly ten mantras.
The suktas are further grouped into 10 mandalas.
Rig veda has only Rik mantras which have a metrical structure. Of these 2456 mantras are in the well known Gayatri meter ( The popular Gayatri mantra is also in this meter).
As per Shri Aurobindo Ghosh , Rik is the mantra of divine consciousness. Its brings its light of revelation.
There are around 400 rishis in the rig veda of whom atleast 25 are women.
The Yajur Veda primarily consists of Yajus mantras which are rhythmic phrases not set to any particular meter ( Unlike Rig Veda)
The popular Taittiriya Samhita of Krishna Yajur Veda has around 4773 mantras , of which around 2/3 rd are yajus mantras ( rest are Riks)
The Yajur Veda deals with Yajna or rituals to appease devatas
The Sama Veda consists of Riks with the added dimension of music.
The Atharva veda has 5987 mantras grouped into 730 suktas and 20 Kandas ( Chapters)
Most of the mantras were revealed to the lineage of Rishis Atharva and Angirasa.
It contains knowledge of healing, construction (Vastu) and societal conduct amongst others
    Thanks.

the idea is that knowledge is discovered, not created. universe existed long before human consciousness emerged
(accordingly, Vedic knowledge is 'sruti' : 'overheard' )

Reality is that, all the cultures were deeply interconnected with Bharat being the fountain of brilliance... Then the other cultures were wiped out one by one, with their descendants now believing that their ancestors were merely hunters and gatherers before the imposition of the belief system that they currently follow. The desert cults are extremely sinister!

      suggesting not call it "culture".
makes it sound very shallow, trivial.
culture is food, music, clothes, social customs etc.
Call this philosophy, knowledge . . . wisdom
(which happens to be historically of Indic origin,
and of course should deservingly be acknowledged and celebrated as such).

    Namaste
In Shikshavalli of Taittiriya upanishad it is mentioned that when chanting a vedic mantra four factors must be taken care of when chanting a syllable
    These are
1.Varna (Syllable) - Every syllable must be correctly pronounced.
    2. Svara ( Accent) - Each syllable must be pronounced with one of the three accents namely udaata, Anudaata and Svarita
    3. Matra(Duration) - Each syllable must be chanted for the proper time duration.
There are 4 time durations namely hrasva,Deergha,Plutam and ardha maatra.
    4. Balam (Effort) - Each syllable must be pronounced with appropriate force.
Hence we must take care to listen and chant a vedic mantra correctly (Any non mantra like shlokas , 108 names etc. can be sung in any manner)
After chanting the mantra, we need to observe where our mind has been.
If the recitation is perfect but the mind has been involved in thoughts of office, an individual etc , the results experienced will be minimal.
If we give our full attention to the meaning/deity of the mantra during recitation, better results will flow.
    Thanks.

As per the ancient Hindu scriptures known as Upanishads there are 4 states of consciousness.
These are Jagrut or waking which corresponds to the A of Aum
Next is Swapna or dream state which corresponds to U of Aum
Next is Sushupti or deep sleep state which corresponds to M of Aum
And beyond this is the fourth, Turiya or super consciousness which corresponds to the silence after M
    OM thus signifies the totality.
We can chant it 108 times daily.
    Thanks.

Reading the upanishad may not give results.
Chanting OM by deeply contemplating on the 3 + 1 principle as the basis can liberate provided a person is deeply rooted in the One
